Better Minimalist Than Nike Wildhorse 2

Comments about Womens New Balance Minimus 10v2 Trail Running Shoe:

Pros: 4 mm drop, wide toe box, doesn't insulate you from the foot strike (so you can feel yourself pushing off for good leg extension in establishing proper running form), sole more than adequate for dirt roads and well used trails, very breathable and comfortable shoe.

Cons: may not be good for really rocky/rugged trails and lightweight construction may make the shoe more vulnerable to wear and tear damage. No problems yet, but I run in mostly dry conditions, and I'm still in the process of putting the first hundred miles on the shoe, so we'll see what happens.

Other comments: The Nike Wildhorse 2 is technically in the same class, with a low drop and a tread meant for trail running, but on the foot, it feels much like a traditional shoe. The sole insulates you from the foot strike, and you don't get much input from the ground at all. Ultimately, this may make it a better option for difficult terrain, but I wouldn't call it a minimalist shoe. Also, expect to wear a half size larger on the Nike and still have less room in the toe box. People with narrower feet and more accustomed to normal running shoes may find the Nike to be a better fit.

Comments about Womens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I love this shoe. It's got great cushioning and great traction. Even after running in them for a few months I can still feel the cushion in them when I'm on the trails. Also, when running on the trails I don't feel like I'm gonna slip and fall on the dry trails. Great little shoe
