Hi, My name is Alexander Hurtado. I am 12 years old. I was born with Spina Bifida, which prevents me to have any use of my legs. Now that I was introduced to the handcycle program for the first time, I really enjoyed riding a handcycle bike. It was really fun riding with other kids. If I am granted this bike, I would actually be able to race my brother with no problem. Unfortunately, my parents can't afford this wonderful bike for me. So you guys are my only hope to have this great opportunity to actually own something that is helpful and fun, and at the same time it's something for me to be able to move around other than in my wheelchair. I would be able to be with my friends in the same group and having fun at the same time. Thank you for this great opportunity!
Sincerely, Alexander Hurtado August, 2004
I am writing to tell you a little bit about my son, Alexander Hurtado. He is one of many kids who are applying for grants to make one of his wishes come true. As a father of four it's really hard for me to afford a handcycle for my son, but thanks to a company like you, there is such a thing as having hope for him to receive one. I just wish for him to live a normal life as possible, by enrolling him in programs for kids like him. I want him to have goals and accomplish them, like any other kids with his disability. I hope you take him into consideration when awarding a bike. He's smart and when he grows up, he wants to be a computer expert. But for now he just wants to be a kid that can play with his friends, and hopefully you could give him that chance!
