Dear Athletes Helping Athletes, My son Ryan Larson is five years old. He has a rare, genetic, physical disability called, Hereditary Spastic Paraperesis (HSP). As you can see from the pictures, Ryan uses a wheelchair for sports like basketball, tennis, and soccer. He'd really love to get involved in hand cycling because he loves going fast! Ryan had his first chance to ride in a handcycle during the Jaw's Sports Camp (which he does annually). He fell in love with it and asked me if he could get a handcycle. Ryan's a very active child, he loves playing with his big brother, and he'll start kindergarten this year as well. Ryan has told me that he'd like to some day be able to race along side his dad, and help me up the hills. I'm hoping he'd have that opportunity. Regardless of you decision, I know that your organization affords many children a sport that would be in most cases, not finacially possible for families. In my opinion, the Athletes Helping Athletes Foundation should be very proud of the positive work it's done in San Diego and beyond. Thank you for your time and consideration.
