Dear Athletes Helping Athletes,
And to the rest of the wonderful folks involved with Athletes Helping Athletes,

Barry has received the hand cycle and promptly jumped on and rode about 10-12 miles and smiled the whole way. He has already been planning his personal training program and to say is excited would be the understatement of the year. Once again, thank you so very much for everything and may God Bless you all.

Dear Athletes Helping Athletes,

I'm writing this letter to ask for your help in getting a handcycle. Because of my recent injury, I can no longer play football or wrestle, sports that I was considered a top athlete. Since I cannot compete in these sports, I am craving competition. I recently played in a wheelchair softball tournament and got to ride a handcycle. I enjoyed both very much. Then a few days later I was invited to compete in a handcycle race and I did. The competition felt great and I wish to get a racing handcycle so I can train for the Paralympics. I cannot afford this on my own and it would be put to great use. I appreciate your time in considering my application.

Barry Glaudel Jr.

Dear Athletes Helping Athletes,

I'm writing this letter about our son Barry who was injured in an automobile accident on March 22, 2009. His life and world are forever changed as he adapts to these new challenges and situations. Barry, through intensive and difficult therapies and a lot of hard work, has already received medical clearance to continue his training, albeit very different than pre-accident. Barry is the kind of athlete that simply craves competition and on July 11, 2009 took part in a Rockford Illinois Park District sponsored softball tournament, which the team Barry played with placed 2nd overall. Barry is currently planning to travel to Chicago on July 13th to compete in a timed handcycle event on a Park District loaner. Barry took to handcycling like a duck to water and loved not only the aerobic benefit but the additional chance to compete on a handcycle as well. Barry, in a very short time was cycling around singing at a speed that caused his mother to look a second time at me.

We have not been blessed enough to be able to provide a handcycle or sports chair for Barry, and hope your wonderful organization could offer us help in providing this for our son.

Barry's present goals outside of athletics include starting college at Aurora University in Aurora Illinois to study Criminal Justice and help however he can with the football program who recruited Barry as a player prior to his accident.

Thank you so much for considering his application.

God Bless You,
Barry Sr.
