New Road Runner Sports Shoe Dog System Helps Runners Find Perfect Shoes
New fit-process decreases risk of injury and takes guess-work out of finding comfortable running shoes.
San Diego, California, Jan. 1, 2008Road Runner Sports, the nation's largest retailer of running gear, recently designed a new running analysis center called Shoe Dog to help customers quickly and easily find the right pair of running shoes. Every Road Runner Sports store across the country is equipped with the new shoe-fitting system.
Every year, two-thirds of runners are sidelined by injuries from overtraining and running in shoes that fit improperly. Recent studies performed by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society found that poor-fitting shoes are the biggest cause of foot problems, costing the U.S. $3.5 billion in medical bills every year.
Michael Gotfredson, founder and owner of Road Runner Sports, says he has the answer. "Most people shop for running shoes based on how they look. I hate to say it, but that's the worst way to choose a running shoe." Gotfredson said that the key to a lifetime of enjoyable, injury-free running is wearing shoes that fit an individual's feet perfectly and address the runner's unique foot mechanics. To do so, Gotfredson said, "I asked my team of running geniuses to build us the best shoe-fit system available, and after a lot of research and testing, that's what they did."
Gotfredson explained, "I tested it the other day, and after 10 minutes of computer analysis, treadmill testing, and personal attention, I was fitted in the perfect pair of shoes and insoles. I am not exaggerating when I say my aging joints have never felt better."
Mark Sullivan, editor of Running Intelligence, recently made a surprise visit to the Road Runner Sports store in Paramus, New Jersey, and said afterwards, "The Shoe Dog process┐ was one of the best fit processes I have ever been through."
Matt Levine, Certified Pedorthist and Road Runner Sports Fit Expert explained the process. "Basically, we start by getting to know your specific fitness level and goals. This is crucial, and we take our time to get to know each customer. Then we take a computerized pressure reading of your foot prints and have you run on a treadmill to analyze your foot mechanics. We size both your feet, then have you try on several different pairs of shoes until we find the right one for you."
Levine said, "Every foot is unique. The great thing about Shoe Dog is that whether you walk, run, or race, our breakthrough Shoe Dog System makes it easy to find your perfect fit." Sullivan agreed. "The process was quick, easy to understand and upbeat."
Road Runner Sports backs up their new Shoe Dog system with their 60-Day Perfect Fit Guarantee. Gotfredson said, "No one else in this business has that guarantee. You can take your new shoes home. Run in them for sixty days. If you have the slightest doubt about your running shoes, return them. We'll find you the right pair or give you your money back."
Road Runner Sports also launched an online version of Shoe Dog that helps customers narrow down their choice from over 9000 in-stock running shoes at RoadRunnerSports.com/ShoeDog.
