Lina Krom - Boston, MA
In 2005, I ran my first marathon (Boston!) in honor of my mother. I obtained a bib number
through a
Cambridge, Mass. charity called CityKicks. My boss told me about Road Runner Sports and the
customer service reps asked me questions and helped explain which running shoes would best
accommodate me. I purchased the Nike Air Zoom Elite and bought another pair a month later!
I didn't realize how much dedication and self discipline it would take to train for 26.2
miles. My training began in January and it snowed every weekend. But my family, friends and
coworkers were constantly there to help push me along. On April 18, 2005 I reached the finish
line in 5:03. All the hard work had paid off and I was able to donate $6,000 to CityKicks in
honor of my mom.
I did run the Boston Marathon again this year...this time it was in memory of my brother, Chhay
Krom. He passed away 3 1/2 years ago. He was 36 yrs old and died of a heart attack. I beat my
old time by almost an hour. What a great feeling to run across the finish line again this
year!! Woo-hoo!!!
I am hoping to run the New York Marathon in November this year if I am lucky enough to obtain a
bib number. Besides, running shorter races, I am training for a mini-triathlon also.
