Bob Rebello - San Diego, CA

70 year old Bob Rebello is a man with a mission: he wants to raise $100k for kidney cancer research by running worldwide marathons on 6 continents by December 31, 2008 in memory of his brother and best friend John who lost his battle with kidney cancer on February 27, 1999. For more than three years, Bob accompanied his brother John to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts on Monday's for John's chemotherapy sessions. He related this experience to the book, Tuesdays with Morrie, but with Bob, it was Mondays with Johnny. John was able to live for four extra years because of the kidney cancer expertise, caring, and dedication of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center staff under the leadership of Dr. Michael Atkins, one of the leading experts in kidney cancer research in the world.

After his brother passed away, Bob decided to run yearly worldwide marathons, in John's memory, to raise money for kidney cancer research in the hope that new treatments would be developed to prevent other families from experiencing the tragic loss of their loved ones. Since he started running the worldwide marathons in 1999, Bob has developed a very successful fundraising program and has raised a total of $40,851.22 - 100% went to kidney cancer research.

To ensure that 100% of all donations go directly to kidney cancer research Bob pays for all of the fundraising expenses [airfare, hotel, 800 stamps, materials, etc.] and does all of the work himself. He also pays for online fees if donors want to donate through his website,, and writes a personal check directly to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical.

The 70 year old is a management consultant, motivational speaker, political cartoonist, and former Marine.  He's recently started his seventeen week training program of 700 miles running and 400 miles biking for his next worldwide marathon - the Bangkok, Thailand marathon that will be held on November 26, 2006 - this will be Bob's 8th worldwide marathon and 4th continent.

To date Bob has finished the following 7 worldwide marathons on 3 continents:
USMC [1999], Ireland [2000], France [2001], Monaco [2002], Hungary [2003], Switzerland [2004], and Australia [2005].

Bob's kidney cancer research fundraising program has been a very humbling experience because of the caring and generosity of so many people who have donated their hard-earned money. During the last eight years Bob has had the pleasure and privilege of meeting a great number of people from around the world who have given him their support, encouragement, and friendship.
