Grace Kurlychek
Dear Athletes Helping Athletes,
I tried a handcycle last summer and it was very fun to ride. I think having a handcylce would
be fun because there are a lot of places to ride around my house. Thank you for considering me
to get a bike
Grace Kurlychek
Dear Athletes Helping Athletes Staff,
Our daughter, Grace Kurlychek, is 12 years old, and is very excited about possibly receiving a
handcycle from your organization. Grace has always been interested in sports and has
participated to the best of her ability with physical activities in the neighborhood, at school
and in the community. However, because she has cerebral palsy, and her legs are weak, she rally
couldn't keep up with other riders. Grace's main challenge is with her lower body; her arm
strength is very good.
Several years ago, we rented a handcycle for her to use on vacation. She had so much fun and
was able to go just as fast as other family members and friends on their bikes. The handcycle
allowed her to participate fully and to get a sense of what it might be like to do wheelchair
racing.
Grace is a strong-willed, persistent girl. She has a strong interest in wheelchair sports, and
is participating in her middle school's track team. A handcycle would allow Grace to accomplish
2 of her goals: 1) increase her conditioning and strength for wheelchair racing and other
sports, and 2) allow her to go places with her friends independently.
Thank you so much for this opportunity!
Sincerely,
Ann Glang and Bob Kurlychek
