I ran track for one year in high and remember running a 2 mile race and hating every second
of it.
The summer after high school, I injured my knee, had seven knee surgeries and thought I
would never be able to stay active.
In 1996, I decided to go out for a run to blow off some steam during a particularly
stressful time in my life. It had started drizzling, but the compulsion pushed me through a
twenty minute run that left me full of energy that I had not felt for years. It seemed to wash
away a large portion of my stress and anxiety.
So, I continued to run regardless of where I was. I ran in Florida in the summer, Colombia,
South America in the mountains, Wisconsin in the winter, and finally settled in Georgia where I
am able to run comfortably year-round!
I completed my first marathon in 2004 (Disney), and ran Chicago in 2005. I have not run
another marathon since Chicaqgo 2005, but I like to run one marathon per year. This year I will
run the Lakefront Marathon in Milwaukee, WI. I was planning on meeting up with my twin brother
who has recently gotten involved in running and is training with his wife while in Cologne,
Germany. Unfortunately, their overseas stay has been extended and they will not be back in time
for Lakefront. Regardless, I have continued to log 50 - 60 miles per week with one track
workout and one long run per week. My hope is to qualify in 2006 to run Boston in 2007....gotta
have long term vision.
