Annette Deakins - Logandale, NV
I started running in 2001 to help lose the baby fat from my 6th child. I soon learned I had
a new love and passion. It was for running, racing, and self improvement. I have since run over
20 races and my favorite distance is a ½ marathon. I was out of commission for about 6 months
in 2003 due to a torn and herniated disk in my back. I was told I would never run again. 4 of
those races I ran were after that diagnosis, one (a ½ marathon) was a personal record by over
10 minutes.
I did 8 marathons in 2005 and 3 this year (the Salt Lake Marathon, the Mayor's Midnight
Marathon in Anchorage and the St. George marathon). I am dedicated to New Balance shoes.
I love the example my running sets for my children and their friends. My 5-year-old loves to
run and has done a few races with me already. My oldest child has just started running with me
also. Even my husband has agreed to run with me.
I am a stay at home mom. In my spare time I enjoy camping, hiking, running, photography, and
playing on the computer. I have built my own family web site and manage the web site for the
Valley of Fire Marathon. I like stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring things that will
challenge me mentally and physically.
I've taken up cycling as a new sport in my attempt to do an Ironman, which is my next
goal.
