I was initially a bit worried about trying these because they were brand new[...] I typically run in the Gel Cumulus did a marathon in the new Saucony Kinvara. After seeing the difference a shedding few ounces made, I became very interested in seeing what Asics had with lightweight shoes for longer road runs. I was very pleasantly surprised with how smooth and fast the ride is. The cushioning isn't abundant, but it's all very well placed within the structure of the shoe (although I will probably put a pair of foot inserts in them for 15+ milers). The return is moderate and not too springy. I found that these have less emphasis on the heel strike and forced a more even stride, which defnitely helps with the faster, lighter run. I will say that I didn't get the same kind of performance out of them when I did a test run on a treadmill. I found that the smooth, responsive ride wasn't there and the return was a little wobbly when the belt was put at faster speeds. The asymetrical lacing is something I hope Asics does with all new generations of shoes. It makes such a difference in the comfort and security of the laces. Additionally, I love the color. The bright, visible yellow gives that extra feeling of security when the sun isn't maximum. These only get 4 stars because I've only logged about 50 miles on the Sky Speeds so far. At this point, I'm impressed enough to get another pair and hope that their "endangered" status doesn't mean that Asics is pulling them already. I don't know if I'll pass up the 6.7 ounce Kinvaras for marathon day; however, I could definintely get used to using these for each subsequent training program and all of my road runs as long as they provide the same kind of high-mileage durability Asics typically delivers.

Was looking for a lighterweight shoe...tried another brand, but felt pinched in the toebox...The Sky Speed felt good right out of the box...nice roomy toe box, and very light...Asics has always performed well for me.

Just got these shoes, run everyday , fit perfect , comfortable. Why are they discontinuing this shoe. Was going to buy more, but now worried about what they know that we don't about this shoe. These just came out! Does anyone have any answers.

I used these for running in Afghanistan while deployed and loved them. SInce I can not wear my toe shoes in uniform these where a good choice for minimalist shoes.

This is my second pair of these shoes in about 5 months, running 40+ miles per week.
For a lightweight trainer, they have good durability and cushioning.
They are light, flexible, comfortable, and fast. Good for speed work and races, and if you're an efficient runner can easily do 15+ mile long runs in these.
The off-set laces keep the tongue from slippping off to the side.
All-round great shoe. :-)

So happy to see that Asics finally made a neutral equivalent to the DS Trainer. :-)
DS Trainer was my favorite until I outgrew the need for stability.
These are the perfect combination of light, flexible, cushion and fast.
Would be great for racing if you're not quite ready for a full-on flat.
The fit is very similar to the Kayano (years ago, as I remember) and DS Trainer. The asymetrical laces keep the tongue from slipping off to one side.
All round great shoe for everything from long/slow days to races.
