Cons Best Uses Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: Got a pair in the early run. Feel much lighter with a lot more forefoot cushioning than the 16. Great update.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: Again and again, ASICS has put out a great shoe that provides awesome stability. I have used ASICS for the past 7 years doing triathlons and half marathons. I have never been disappointed with a pair of shoes from them. I have been using the Kayano 16s before this and wanted to try something new. I ordered the Newton shoes and was disappointed in them as they did not provide any support (I have a history of perineal tendinitis) and caused a lot of strain. I then ordered these 17s and have not looked back.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: For a "stability" shoe, it is very light (12.3 oz) compared to some of the clunkers that are in the 13.5 to 15 oz range. Shoe sizing, as they indicated, is a half size up from your dress shoe size. I would place this shoe in the same category as the Kayano-11, a "classic" shoe.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I owned the 16, but this version, in the same size, just doesn't quite have the same feel. My foot seems to slosh around too much in the shoe, forcing me to overcompensate by tying my shoestrings even tighter.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: It almost feels like cheating to run in these shoes as they allow me to run farther than any other shoes I've worn. Out of three releases I've owned this is by far the most luxurious. I like to try and punish these shoes with miles...

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I purchased Kayano 17s because I had had 15s before and had had great luck with them. I have big feet and I liked the fit and they lasted a looong time. 17s seem very similar and I knew they would fit.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I am not a great runner, I am not built like a great runner, and I certainly was not made to be a runner. However, I discovered several years back that there is a huge upside to getting involved in running. And as the years have progressed from my 20's through my 30's, and now to my early 40's I am firmly committed to the sport. I have tried several different shoes made by Asics and have generally liked them. A few years ago I tried my first Kayano. I was surprised by the sole's unforgivable stiffness. I had to put an insert into the shoe to make it bearable. Last year I tried a cheaper shoe, still made by Asics, and still not a bad shoe, but I did notice a drop-off is support and control. That shoe wore out recently, in fact I pushed it longer that i should have. So much so that I was getting pains in my right hip when I ran for more than 5 miles. I ordered (my first ever order from Road-Runner Sports) a brand-spanking new pair of the Kayano 17 last week. Being a bit impatient I took my old shoes out for one last run and nearly blew out my hip after 2 miles, and like a fool pushed onward to 4 miles. I'm getting geared up for a 10K next week and was seriously bummed about possibility of having injured myself. [...] I put the inserts into them and put them one and they immediate felt sing like angels. I took them out this afternoon for their initial break-in run. Not only did my hip not get worse when I ran, it felt better as each mile passed. A few days ago I started breaking down between 2 and 4 miles. Today I ran for 9 miles and feel great. Great shoe Asics, [...] In my humble opinion -- best shoe ever.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I'm 6'2" 195 pounds with a narrow foot, high arch and don't pronate. I run between 20-50 miles per week depending on what I am training for. Because of my size shoes tend to wear out quickly and some years ago I switched away from shoes designed for high arches (and 140 pound athletes) and into the Gel Kayano XI - a shoe I loved. I went through 13 pairs before I couldn't get them anymore. I tried a couple pairs of the GK 15s and really didn't like them. The GK16 was better but still not as good my old XIs.The GK17, however, might be better than the XIs. They are just as comfortable, have the same fit, and are noticeably lighter. I'd have given 5 stars except I only have about 30 miles on them so it's too soon to tell about durability. If they last 300 miles, which the XIs did, it's a 5 star shoe for sure. If they only last 200, but the price were more like [$] - still a solid 5 star shoe in my book. I'm just afraid being lighter they will only last 200 miles and [$] is simply too much $$ for a 200 mile pair of shoes.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: Great shoe. Provides good traction for running on snow covered roads. Good cushioning. Snug fit, much better than Kayano 16, more like the Kayano 11 which was the best of late, but lighter and more comfortable. Lacing pattern is back to the top, the 16 was hard to keep snug, even when double tieing. Able to lace up more snuggly.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: The new GEL-Kayano 17 lives up to this shoe's stellar reputation. I work out at least 5 days a week in these, mostly in the gym, both cardio and weights. While they are running shoes, they provide a stable platform and enough lateral support for the kind of strength and weight training I do–mostly dumbbells and machines, as well as the CYBX Arc Trainer and treadmill. Love the new black color, very understated and they look better with sweatpants and jeans. Definitely a great choice for anyone who likes to mix in a little gym time with their running workouts.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I'm a heavy runner at 200lbs, run about 15 miles/week. I finally wore out my last pair of Kayano 11's and couldn't find them anymore so I went with the 17's. Still the same support but much lighter. I was concerned less weight would mean less support but I'm very happy.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: After having this shoe for three weeks I am convinced this is the best Kayano yet...in fact it is the best running shoe I have had in the last 10 years. I like to switch up my running shoes and try something new so over the last five years I have used the Brooks Trance (good), Brooks Beast (good but a bit clunky), Brooks Ghost (not good - lightweight but not enough support and quickly breaks down), Asics 2140 and 2150 (good - comparable to trance). The Kayano is lightweight and give me the support I need. I am a larger runner at 200lbs and put in about 25 -40 miles depending on the time of the year. No complaints yet but I will see how long it lasts.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: This is the reincarnation of the finest shoe ever made, the Gel Kayano '97, no question about it. I used that shoe for 10 years, until I just couldn't buy it any more, having worn out at least 15 pairs. Long time runners will remember what a great shoe that was.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 17 Running Shoe: I'm 6'3", 210 lb and mainly run on a treadmill. Average to high arch. This shoe is light, fits perfectly and cushions well. Perfect combination of support and cushioning. Perfect feel in the fore-foot as well. Also run in the NB1225 and have run in the GT2150 in the past. This may be my new everyday favorite.
