After wearing Asics Cumulus for years, I was unhappy with the way the cushioning felt each time a new model came out. I tried several neutral shoes from Saucony and Brooks and finally settled on the Defyance 4. On my very first run, I didn't even notice my shoes--and that's a good thing! The cushioning is incredible, and the arch support is perfect. If you don't need the arch support, try the Ghost 4; it was my second favorite.

Once again Brooks has outdone themselves. Right out of the box the Defyance 4 exceeded my expectations. They fit like a glove and took 13 miles like a champ. Great cushion in the forefoot; snug in the midfoot. These are my new favorites!!

love to put this shoe on - best fitting running shoe I have ever had, and while running, the lest noticeable shoe (meaning zero problems)I have ever worn, and have been running 25 yrs. Are they really doing away with this shoe?!!

I am loyal to Brooks. I love them. I just wanted to put this thought out there. I have put 270 miles on my Defyance 4's. My heel has rubbed a hole completely through the padding in the back of the shoe. It is starting to get painful. I have to replace them. I've never had that happen before with Brooks.

I've been wearing Defyance 3 for several years and just purchased my Defyance 4 a couple weeks ago. They are even better than the older model. I was so excited to have these great shoes because I alternate shoes and Brooks is always one of my shoes. They are comfortable from the first run until I hit about 400 miles. Great arch support and amazing cushioning! They do run a size small, but most running shoes do.

I just received an email that these shoes are endangered and there is no mention of a Defyance 5. How can Brooks do this? I hope the email is just a mistake or that Brooks is making a newer model. I'd hate to lose these shoes.

This is my 5th pair of the Defyance. They are very lightweight and low profile. They only last me about 4 months (300 to 350 miles). But, I haven't had any problems with them.

I've been running in the Brooks Defyance for a couple of years now and I've found that the Defyance 4 delivers the same dependable characteristics of the Defyance 2 and 3: great cushioning for a neutral runner, particularly in the forefoot.

I feel like the arch support is stronger on this new model, in fact it took a little getting used to. It is not uncomfortable, but it feels like the arch is slightly elevated compared to previous models of this shoe.

I think the Defyance 4 has a cuter look-- I love the bright yellow instead of the light blue/purple from the 3 series.

I always purchase this shoe a half to full size larger than my normal shoe size, but I suppose this is pretty typical for running shoes.

These shoes are very resilient for long runs-- and I don't feel a difference in the cushioning on the heel strike after a few miles like I have with other neutral-cushion shoes. I've trained for 5 marathons in the Defyance and they hold up well with a lot miles.

I love these shoes. I normally need stability shoes, but I wear custom foot orthotics now and with the orthotics I need to wear neutral shoes otherwise it is too much stability. These are perfect for my feet and my running needs.

I am always afraid when the company "updates" their shoes and I am afraid that they will change, but these have stayed great.
