      I have been running steadily for about five years. During those years I ran in toning shoes, first MBT's and then Runtones. The more I increased mileage, the more pain I had in my IT bands. For the past three months I have done about 30-35 miles a week, but I have been in agony. I decided it might be my shoes, so I went to a local store that analyzes runners' gaits and recommends shoes. They fitted me in New Balance 1080s (yesterday) Today I did a 10.5 mile run just to try them out and all I can say is AMAZING!! My hips and IT bands are not throbbing; I can actually sit down without pain; there is some soreness, but it's going to take a while for the old damage to heal. Today I am on this website to order a second pair because I want to alternate shoes so they don't get smelly (I sweat a lot).
      PLEASE do not become a mileage runner in toning shoes! Get something appropriate - the New Balance 1080s are beyond wonderful.
      If it helps I am 5'7", weigh 130 lbs, wear size 11 narrow in normal shoes, but 12B in running shoes.

      I have been runnning in this shoe for about 3 weeks and its a decent replacement shoe for the endangered 1064. Man, i miss that shoe. This 1080 is a little snug in the instep and my right foot starts to go numb a couple miles into the run. I am hoping with a little more break-in time it will subside. The toe box is also a little narrower than the 1064.

          I purchased the New Balance 1064 in 8.5D a few months ago. My Mom is hard to fit, and the 1064 was perfect for her! So, I got back on the website to get another pair and they were gone, replaced by the 1080. The 1080 shoe has a good feel, lightweight (for a cushioned shoe) and flexible without feeling sloppy. I wish it had the same level of arch support and cushioning as the 1064, but it does not. I have only put a few miles on the shoes, but I think I will be happy with them for some time. New Balance continues to make shoes for people like me who need lots of room in the toe box!! Thanks!!
