Overall these are great shoes, they look nice, they are extremely comfortable, and they are great for running.
Pros:
-I love the upper, it's simple style is very attractive and it's plush yet breathable. There is a lot of ankle padding. The toe cap is great for protecting the toes and the mesh upper. (I once caught a different pair of shoes on the corner of a door and the upper ripped).
-The mid sole is great, almost perfect, enough cushioning for almost anyone. There just isn't a bunch of extra in the heel like most other shoes. Also, I can tell the foam is of a good quality, it's responsive and firm, yet not too firm.
-Wide toe box, obviously.
-I love the black ones, not too flashy, so I can wear these to work.
Cons:
-Low profile shoes such as these look great but they can slip off the heel a little. You need to really tighten the laces. This is easy to get use to and doesn't affect my running.
-The laces are a little long, this happens with too many shoes, oh well, easily fixed.
Overall this is a great shoe. I wish more companies followed Altra's lead. I also wish Altra made more of their shoes in plain black.

The original Instinct was the shoe that hooked me on Altra. Now Altra has taken what has been one of their most popular models and honed it into a fine tuned road running machine. From the zero drop profile to the foot shaped toe box, everything about this shoe was designed to help you run in a more natural position for better form and performance. My only minor qualm is a slightly more vertically narrow toe box from the 2.0... but it's still one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever run in. Highly recommended.

My husband has three pair of Altra's for running and decided that they are much more comfortable than his dress shoes so he bought a pair for work. He claims that since he began wearing Altra's he no longer gets painful corns on the sides of his toes.

I received the Instinct 3 earlier this month and am extremely happy with them. They are really lightweight compared to the other various brands I have used in the past, but don't sacrifice any of the cushioning. The upper is constructed with a bit thicker of a mesh, maintaining durability. The best thing about theses shoes (and Altra shoes in general) is the foot-shaped fit. They fit true to size, but my foot has room to move my toes and there are no "hotspots" or blisters, even after 4 or 5 hour long runs. The zero drop has been beneficial over the last few months with transitioning to a more natural movement in running- I feel much more efficient while running. I would definitely suggest a pair of these to anybody looking to get into a road or treadmill shoe.
