Best Uses
These shoes have a generous amount of cushioning and are very comfortable due to the roomy toe box. Zero drop is perfect. Previous shoes (New Balance Fresh Foam & Hoka One One) caused top of the foot pain which disappeared completely with Altra Olympus. Improvements which for me would make them perfect: more aggressive tread for trail runs without loss of cushioning, more durable tread - mine is going away rather quickly (I am 112#'s, run 80% trails/hills, hard foot striker) - and a bit lighter. Overall a great shoe - although still searching for the PERFECT one for me!
 I had been running in the original Altra Olympus. The only complaint I had was that the tread wasn't aggressive enough to be considered a "Trail Shoe." Enter Olympus 1.5... more aggressive tread that really grip the trails. These shoes are heavier than the original Olympus (must be the trail rubber?), but that's fine with me. Some info for those ordering online... in other running shoes, I wore a size 7. In the original Olympus, I had to size up to 7.5, BUT in the Olympus 1.5 I had to go back to a size 7. I LOVE the Olympus! Pros
Cons Best Uses
I love the Altra Olympus 1.5 like I've loved no other shoe, well unless you count the Altra Lone Peak 2, my other favorite shoe. I switched to Altras because other brand shoes were giving me blisters, black toenails, and pain on the sides of my feet. The Olympus has a wide toe box that allows your toes space. Your feet will never feel crammed into these shoes. I love how the Olympus performs on the trails, I feel like I can really bomb down hills with the added cushion and for longer distance races they reduce the amount of soreness I feel both during and after the event.

I am a marathoner and triathlete but I still use the shoes on the road even though they are specific to trails. They are amazing! Great for all distances as well! I bounced around trying different kinds of shoes for years and always hated the way my feet felt after I ran a long distance run or race. With the foot shaped toe box my feet and toes can relax and run the way they're supposed to run! All the other shoes are tight on my toes and I would always get blisters and lose toenails. I know a lot of distnace runnerd have this problem as did I, which almost caused me to stop running long distance, something I love! Enter Altra! These shoes have changed my life! Not only do I enjoy running in them so much and my feet feel great afterwards, I find myself signing up for the next race right after and have since completed my 9th full marathon and my 2nd Ironman 70.3! Something I never did before. These shoes will definitely change the way you feel about running. I did size up from my normal shoe size only a 1/2 a size on these rather than a full size like I normally do. And they are perfect! Amazing shoes!!
