They have a cloud like feeling on the pavement, which I love. The reason I wanted these shoes is because I was told that these are the most "cushiony" shoes in the Mizuno line-up! They have just enough cushion in the heel yet make my feet feel very stabile. They are so comfy that I want to wear them for everyday walking and to the gym, but I have to remind myself to "save" them just for running. They fit very similar to the Wave Rider 18. I ordered the same size in the Wave Enigma 5 as I did the Wave Rider 18. I have the silver and blue ones which I like but my hope is that they will come out with some fun bright colors. I will be purchasing another pair of these Enigmas for sure! I bought these shoes a few months ago and have since put in over 1000 miles on them. They still have lots of life in them and I look forward to a few more months in them. They are a great combination of cushion and structure-- great for long runs! I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone else looking for a great shoe for high-mileage weeks. I rarely write reviews but I want these to sell well so they never stop making them! I tried them as a last resort before leaving Mizuno. I've worn the Wave Rider, Creation, and Prophecy all in multiple versions. I love the firm Mizuno feeling but my age and weight have made them less comfortable over time (not Mizuno's fault). This Enigma (haven't tried previous versions) has more cushion but still has the Mizuno support and feel in a neutral shoe. I ran 10 miles the first time with these shoes with no problems and it was the most comfortable run I've had in months. I think they would work for lots of different style runners or walkers. They do feel tighter/smaller initially but after breaking them in I realized it's just the extra padding and cushioning; they conformed to my foot quickly and now there's a bit more wiggle room but I could see how some folks might size up a half-size from their typical running shoe. In comparison for those who haven't tried Mizuno, they are more responsive and have a tiny bit more structure than the Asics Nimbus in my opinion but have that same cushy feel when you slip your foot in. I have Plantar Fasciitis and been having trouble finding the right sneakers to run WITHOUT pain. Mizuno Enigma 5 have such thick cushion and comfort when you run you won't feel anything afterwards. I bought the Wave Enigma 5 for distance walking and they're very comfortable. They conform to my narrow foot, while still giving me plenty of room in the toes. This was my first Mizuno experience and I couldn't be happier. The Enigma 5s fit like a glove, enveloping my feet and providing both cushioning and support at the same time (yet they don’t feel too heavy or clunky, although they're not necessarily lightweight). They are a smooth ride, and I felt like I was more gliding at times rather than running. Looking forward to logging many more miles in them. I was worried when I first put them on because they were tight around the toe box. But after running a couple miles in them, they really loosened up and have been a great distance shoe. I would def recommend the Enigma 5's to everyone. Ive had the opportunity to try out these awesome shoes and they are the very lightest shoes Ive ever put on in my life! I was able to run faster and not be held down by the weight os my sneakers! I know my 5K time will be much better this time around :D This is a solid training shoe for runners seeking to train both long and short distance. This is my first time running in a pair of Mizuno's and the ride felt pretty good. The shoe offers a lot of cushioning which helped to reduce landing impact. Also loved the snug fit. Great shoe to add to my marathon training run rotation. I was given this shoe as a seed shoe. Although it does not have the correct stability for me to be able to run in them, they are super comfortable for walking around and for work. I prefer the cushioning in this shoe over other brands such as brooks, nike, and saucony. Great Shoe, love the update! I received these shoes a month ago and have been wearing them on my morning runs. They provide a lot of comfort and support, which I really like. They're great for every day training for an average runner, like myself. This is my third pair of Mizuno running shoes. I choose them over other brands because they have great support and flexibility, while providing cushioning as you run. My brother (a personal trainer and Ironman) is the one who initially recommended them, and I have not found another shoe I like better. I would say that while they run true to size, if you are in between sizes opt for the larger. Have run in this shoe on a number of surfaces and it's very comfortable and cushy on all of them. It's very responsive, especially when running hill repeats. Is a great shoe to that I'll be using in the rotation for my next half marathon. These are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever owned. Even after a long run they didn't feel super tight as they conformed to my feet throughout my 10 miles. I love that they are slightly wider than the average running shoes I have purchased in the past. I love that my toes didn't feel smushed after running for a long period of time. Don't forget to order a half size up from your normal footwear- I wear an 8 1/2 in street shoes and wear a 9 in running shoes and they are perfect for my feet. I am typically a light stability runner so I had to add a pair of superfeet to these shoes to give myself a little support. I was pleasantly surprised how soft they still felt after adding the inserts and loved the cushioned yet responsive ride they offered. My one constructive criticism is that I don't think they are very breathable, my feet are always super sweaty after running in them (even when it's not 90 degrees outside). I love the cushy features in this shoe! Feels like I'm bouncing with every step! I have tried Mizuno in the past without much successs. The Enigma offers really nice cushioning when walking that firms up some during a run. Very comfortable! This is "more shoe" than I usually run in--a little more drop, and more sole. The sole is primarily sold, and not overly flexible. (The shoes I usually run in are very flexible and offer little sole support.) If you tend to "grip" with your toes as you run, these shoes may be able to help you break that habit. I noticed that my one weird toe that I tape up so it doesn't hyperextend painfully when I run does not need tape in these shoes. I found the soles provided a good amount of support and guidance, which is surprising since the shoes are light. Several blog reviews I've read indicate the tester's foot or toes fell asleep, but all you have to do to avoid that is loosen the laces (starting all the way from the bottom). I initially found the shoe a little tight around the joints where the phalanges and metatarsals meet, but again, it turns out I was lacing that area too tight--it didn't "look" tight, but when I added a little bit of lace slack it fixed it right up. If you are used to lacing your shoes so that the eyelets are a certain distance apart from each other, you are going to want to skip that and go by feel; these eyelets are further apart on the shoe than I am used to, and probably you'll find the same. I like the amount of cushion in these shoes in a very "Princess and the Pea" way--they are not too squishy, and not too spartan. It's a soft ride, but not so soft that you forget you're running on pavement. (I fall into the "Clydesdale" or "Athena" category--I'm not particularly huge, but I am tall and have a big frame. So a little squish is a must.) I actually wore them to the office for two days, and going back to regular shoes is going to kind of suck. The mesh construction layer did a good job of keeping my feet from overheating. The Enigma 5 is also a sharp-looking shoe. I really like the purple pair I received. The design team had looks in mind, not just functionality. Disclosure: I received these shoes for testing as a BibRave Pro. (Check out race reviews and learn more about being a Pro at BibRave.com) All opinions are my own. This is the first time I've tried Mizuno as a running brand and it ended up filling an important hole in my shoe regimen: a nice, lightweight neutral shoe that I could pile some miles on. The heel and bottom of this shoe feel very stable while still feeling rather lightweight overall. Over the past year, I've been trying to slowly transition over to more minimal shoes and straying away from too much structure. This provides just enough support for me to feel comfortable running long miles in. Just got these shoes last week and have only taken them out on two short runs. Here are some of my initial thoughts from using these shoes: ~Soft cushioning for my feet ~Feet felt supported ~Pleasing design and color scheme ~Shoe laces are super soft ~Toe box is a little narrow for what my toes that like to spread out - good thing I sized up to get some extra room ~Shoes seem a little bit "clompy" when I run - they seem to be extra noisy when they hit the ground (I bet this might be because they are not yet broken in) I look forward to continued testing of these new shoes! This is the first pair Mizunos that I've been able to run in comfortably. I do wish I had a bit more room in the tie box, but the amount of cushion this shoe provides make up for it. Overall, this is a great shoe for my harder workouts that usually cause my feet to ache after awhile. I only ran in Nirvana for 9 years and I was devastated when it was discontinued. I tried another brand which did not work, once you wear Mizunos Nothing else compares! I was thrilled to find out about the new Enigma and it is the Perfect shoe for me!! It is light but has enough cushion and still has that stability that I need. I Love this shoe and can't wait to run the marathon in them!! Thank You Mizuno!!! I hope you will keep this shoe!! Please make more fun colors! This is one of the more cushiony running shoes I have worn. It is great on any surface. It does run a little tight, you may want to go up a half size. Nice neutral shoe, looks good, good colors - not too flashy, good cushion, loud sole The new Enigma has comfortable cushioning that lasts all day. The fit of the shoe runs a little narrow, and it may even be a half size too short. I think if I got a half size up this shoe would have five stars. The color is neutral which I love amongst all my bright shoes. It could be used for every day wear as well as running. i can't compare these MWE5s to other Enigmas but they seem to have a decent amount of cushion in them. the cushion makes for a softer landing and they have a nice bounce / spring to them. they're pretty light weight and don't feel clunky. the upper is made of a mesh that seems to be more breathable than other shoes. the shoes felt pretty tight and stiff, as most new running shoes do. i tied them as tight as i would normally tie my shoes but for whatever reason, i had to stop during my run to loosen them. i don't know if this is because they need to be broken-in or if they are structurally a bit narrow. i really like these shoes and will be adding them to my easy run shoe rotation. The Enigma 5 is a great improvement over the previous editions. The upper seems to fit much better than before. It feels like "a lot of shoe," since there seems to be so much under the foot, but I like a lot of cushioning so it's a good fit for me. Having been an Asics Gel Nimbus runner since high school, I was very skeptical of switching to Mizuno, especially with the wave plate that usually feels too hard. However, these shoes are INCREDIBLE! Relatively light for a high cushioned shoe without a bulky heel getting in the way of forefoot/midfoot strikers. Cushioned ride without feeling heavy and mushy. I LOVE it! The Mizuno Enigma 5s offer excellent cushioning and are perfect for a neutral runner like me. I like how the design of the shoe hugs my (weak) ankles. They were comfortable to run in right away and I did not need to break them in. A bonus feature is that they are fashionable! I would definitely purchase these in the future.
