Altra Torin 2.0

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

I have been a long time purchaser of the Torin series as I have found it to be a comfortable and durable shoe. The heelclaw feels much better than the previous versions. Plenty of space for the toes and it makes a difference on longer runs. Still a fan of Altra as well as Hoka.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

This is the most disappointed I have ever been with a shoe. My wife purchased these for me for father's day. I never run sockless, yet after only 2 months the inner heel lining wore through and began to rub my heel raw, with socks. Only 2 months old and I cannot even wear them anymore. Also, after about a month and a half the bottom sole (yellow part) began peeling away. I solved this with super glue and it held. But, less than 2 months old, really! Needless to say I am very disappointed that I am stuck with these poor quality shoes I cannot wear anymore. These were my first and last Altra's for sure. I love the wide toe-box and they were very comfortable to run and train in. Again, I am so disappointed in the quality of these. I only wish my wife has signed up for VIP when she bought these. Oh well, lesson learned. Don't buy these shoes. See photos attached.

Great shoe if you can handle zero drop

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

Very soft shoe. I have tried the zero drop thing and I just can't get used to it. Not the shoes fault, if you can handle 0 drop this is a great shoe. By nature I am a heel stricker but have bad knees and have been trying to go with a lower drop to help with knee pain. The best I have found is the Hoka Clifton 3 with a 5mm drop. It runs like a 8mm drop and has awesome cushion. This shoe is a close second with cushioning but the drop is too much for me.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

Looking forward to the feel of the 2.5. Rarely do I run in one shoe exclusively, but I punished the 2.0 at about 400 miles per month for 3 months, and it still begged for more. Having run a lot more in the One the past few months, I find it faster than the Torin due to the thinner footbed, but will be going back to Torin for the daily runner. With about 30K miles experience across most brands available, I'm firmly committed to Altra. As an aging runner, I feel healthier in every respect running in Altra!

    Heel cup wears out quickly

    By Lawrence

    from undisclosed

    Verified Buyer

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

I really liked the previous model of Altra Torin (probably 1.0) that I had, even though the lining at the back of the heel cup developed a hole within the first 100 miles. However, the heel cup lining in this newer model shoe has already started developing a hole after only 30 miles, and they are lacking the extra eyelets like the previous model to pull the heel cup tighter. Even though they are the same size as the previous model, they don't fit as well, and my heel slides up and down too much - I have some blisters as a result. Sending them back.

I have been wearing Torin for a while now. I like to cushioning and the zero drop. It makes my long walks enjoyable and comfortable. I do not run in them, so I cannot comment on their desirability for running. Some may thing they are too heavy because of the ample cushioning.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

When my favorite zero drop shoe was discontinued by its manufacturer, I thought it was about time to try out what I've read about Altra for so long. My educated guess on true fit was perfect. Every running shoe I've had before was 11, Torin 2.0 is 10.5. I had a vision in my head of what the perfect fit and feel would be and when I slid the shoe on, I could not stop smiling and stepped right on the treadmill for 8 miles...it was awesome! I had alternated between 4mm and zero for years, so the transition was easy. I have over 320 miles in this shoe in six weeks with greatly improved recovery and no soreness. The shoes and the smile are both still as good as new - no outside miles in Minot ND yet, though. I have zero complaints but do look forward to getting a shoe with less cushion as I've realized 1-2 barefoot finishing miles a couple times a week are a few seconds faster at consistent HR. The sole curves up at the toe a bit unnecessarily, but for distance training it's not a problem at all. Want to try the Instinct or One to see if the lower stack height gives the added responsiveness. Long review, I know, but have never been this impressed with over 25K miles and countless brands/styles.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

I am on my 14th pair of Altra shoes and I love them. I have had all of the Torin models and I am on my 3rd pair of Torin 2.0s. This shoe is definitely more flexible than previous models. The sizing is now in line with other brands. The issue I have with them is when they get wet, even just a little, they squeak terribly. If I do a long run of 12+ miles and its humid out even foot sweat will start the squeaking. Once they dry they are ok again. I now only use them for shorter runs.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

After years of foot pain from Morton's neuroma, metatarsalgia and, most recently, a stress fracture, I've finally found a shoe that works. Custom orthotics help a little, but every other running shoe I've tried just doesn't give my toes adequate room. The wide, foot-shaped toe box in the Altra is fantastic. I'm 56 and back up to 10-12 miles in 3 to 4 runs a week. Before these shoes, I couldn't make it more than 3 miles without excruciating pain, but now my long run is a pain-free 4.5 miles. My toes can finally spread out, especially when I wear toe socks. The shoes are very light and very cushioned without losing bounce. I also love the zero drop. If you're more worried about style than function, these shoes probably aren't for you. But if you're looking for a great running shoe that just makes sense, look no further.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.0 Running Shoe:

Running in Five Fingers became difficult as distances increased. These shoes give the same zero drop ride as five fingers, but with cushioning to protect joints as the miles stack up.

There's so much room in the shoe, it really feels like you're running on a gym mat the whole time - not super cushioned, but not solid ground either.

I tried Hokas, but even their small drop from heel to forefoot was uncomfortable. Zero drop is the only way to go. My ideal footfall is outer midfoot and a bit of heel, transitioning to forefoot on takeoff. I can do that with these Altras without the shoe trying to manipulate my stride.

Also tried the next level of cushion up, but they did feel like they were interrupting my stride. The Torin 2.0 is just right. They are a bit heavy though, compared to other cushioned shoes, but it's not noticeable after long.

It was with a mix of emotions went I saw 2.0 were coming out. I am pleased to report after this mornings Long Slow Distance workout, The Torin 2.0 are the 1.5 's plus. The toe box feels a little larger. Same slip on feel. Same cushion. A little more bend in the toe. That's a good thing. You still need a half size larger. Very Pleased. Going to break these 2.0 in a little more then race OKC Marathon in two weeks. I will report back.
