Really disappointed and hoping they revive the PureConnect

By Tammy

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I have LOVED the Pure series in the past...owned all of the PureConnect versions and two of the PureFlow versions Since they've discontinued the Connect I saw the Flow had a more recent version and was excited to get it. Sadly, I put them on and they were rather stiff and inflexible compared to previous models. I also think they've narrowed the toe box. Two miles into my run, I was developing a blister and my feet were getting numb. I tried them again a few days later with a thicker pair of socks and loosened the laces a bit which helped but I still was disappointed with the stiff feel. I'll likely be returning these for something else.

Bring the original pure series back!

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I have two pairs of previous version of pure flow and love them. The forefoot is very narrow, a complete different fit on these. I tried to run and had to take them off in less than 2 miles. They are going back.

either like it or hate it

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I was a bit concerned after reading the previous reviews on this shoe. I have been using the Brooks Pure flow since version 2. This shoe is definitely a bit more narrow than previous versions. Sizing up a half size works, but I had to let out the laces as well. The one thing this shoe has that I am disappointed about is an extraordinarily long tongue! It comes past the front of the shoe. It is a bit annoying initially. I thought about returning the shoe because of it, but thought I would give it a few runs before making my final decision. I have been able to get used to it. Hopefully in future versions Brooks will shorten the length of the tongue. The other weird part about the tongue on the shoe is that it seems like plastic, so it is not that soft. It does flex on your foot though so it is doable until i buy the next shoe.

Failure to Launch

By monica

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

Tried them out on a few four-milers and they were "okay." Started out on a 22-miler and after 6 miles, had to call someone to bring me one of my three pair of Brooks Launch (first generation, not Launch 2 or 3). The PureFlow was forcing my foot forward in the shoe so that first toe was ramming the front (please don't recommend the next half size larger . . . tried that). After all the customer uproar a few years ago that brought back the original Launch, I can't understand why manufacturers don't continue to listen to the customer/user. Glad I had 4 pair of original Launch to last me awhile. Looks like it's time to try New Balance again.

I LOVE this shoe ! After not running for 3 years and changing from being a barefoot runner, I must say I am impressed ! I was fitted for this shoe and fell in love instantly with the fit. Plenty of room in the toe box and a snug fit in the heel. My feet and legs dont tire and feel well supported in this shoe. Would definitely recommend this shoe. I get so many compliments when i wear them. Wish they came in all black, however overall great shoe at a great price !

This revision from the PureFlow 4 to the 5 is a Disaster

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

This Re-Design of the PureFlow 4 to the PureFlow 5 is a total disaster. The shoe is ruined. Lost is the good cushioning and excellent feel from initial foot strike through toe-off. The shoe feels hard and wants to slap the pavement at foot strike. The fore-foot toe box is very much constricted and now uncomfortably small. The holes in the sole collect ground matter and I am afraid of what they will pick up on the snow.

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

This is a great shoe, and one of a few that won't cause my ankles and legs to start hurting. I have a slight inward pronation, and need a little arch support, so a drop 4 is exactly what I need. However, with this latest version, the tongue slices into my skin, and I fear the scars on both feet will not fade. I recommend, but wear large bandaids where the tongue hits your foot.

        Shoes cause horrible blisters

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I have worn pire flows in the past without problems. This new updated version of pure flow gave me horrible blisters on my feet after a couple attempts at trying to run in them. Of course to return them I have to pay for the return shipping, even though I'm a VIP member. Very disappointing.

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I've run in this shoe since the very first one and have loved them all. This generation, however, feels like a completely different shoe! It feels very plastic, and was quite tight when I put them on; I figured I would still give it the benefit of the doubt, but right away my feet were slapping, my forefoot fell asleep, they were hot, and I go an almost immediate blister. They were so uncomfortable that I took them off as soon as I finished my run and walked barefoot to my house. I am SO disappointed and must now find a new shoe.

Excellent shoe for midfoot strikers, but narrow and short

        By Terri

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I have worn every version of the PureFlow line. It just keeps getting better. The only reason I gave this shoe four stars instead of five is because the new fit is much smaller than older versions. It is both more narrow (which I love), but also shorter. I ordered my normal size for this brand and style of running shoe--which is 1/2 size larger than my regular shoes--and it was still too short. I had to go up 2 sizes in order for the shoe to fit me. Not a dealbreaker, but kind of a pain to return and exchange. As I mentioned, the short is also narrower than previous versions and narrower than standard running shoes; my Asics that I rotate with these are significantly wider than the PureFlows. I personally love the narrower fit, but my foot is slighter narrower than the typical foot. I don't have to wear a true "narrow" size shoe, but I could. If your foot even leans towards being wide-ish, this shoe may not be the best fit for you. Other aspects of the shoe: This version seems to have kept the aspects of the PureFlow that I love. Namely, it has a low heel toe drop so it works best for those who have a midfoot strike when they run. It also feels quite cushion-y for such a light weight shoe. I have tried many other shoes that have a low heel toe drop and this is my favorite. My legs do not get exhausted wearing this shoe, even after my long runs (up to 14 miles). I have noticed that I feel best if I replace the shoe after about 300 miles, though. It is not a long-lasting shoe for me. I can usually get 400 + miles on my Asics. Overall, this is still my go-to shoe for routine runs, my long runs, and races.

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

This was my "go to" shoe to use in marathons without a thought (versions 1, 3, and 4). However, the material of the tongue of version 5 broke my skin regardless of the height of the socks or bandaids I would choose to wear. It is not possible to run with this shoe without that problem.

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I loved my Pure Flow 3's. They fit my narrower heel while still giving my toes enough room to spread out and breathe. I wasn't as happy with the fit of the 4's, but had really high hopes for the 5's. Unfortunately, about 5 miles into an 8 mile test run the front of my foot started to go numb and I was in complete pain finishing out the run. Horrible. The toe box is MUCH too narrow and doesn't give at all.
To add insult to injury, the Pure Flow 5's are also much heavier (~2 oz!) than the 3's. Whatever was Brooks thinking?
So, sadly, now I am looking for a replacement shoe. I have my last pair of 3's that I'm nursing through one more marathon, and then I guess I will have to give up on Brooks for my road shoes. Fingers crossed the 6's will be better! Please Brooks, bring back the fit of the Pure Flow 3's!

(Note: In contrast, I prefer the fit of the new Launch - they are snug, but they give; I just wish they had the lower drop of the Pure series. The Pure Grit 4's also seem to have a bit more room in the toe box as well as a more flexible upper. Too bad there isn't an equivalent road shoe.)

Comments about Womens Brooks PureFlow 5 Running Shoe:

I have a small, sightly wide foot and at first blush the brooks felt great. After getting them home and taking my pup for a walk around the block I knew they were going back. The tongue on the pureflow 5 is constructed in such a way that the hard plastic like edge will rub your ankle raw with the slightest agitation. I'm not quite brave enough to see what a couple miles will do. If you wear a thick tall sock (which I dont own) I think they night be fine.

I'd try a brooks pair again based on how they feel on the strike, but the tongue discomfort even on a walk was convincing that they need to be returned.

I fell in love with the 3's. Did not like the fit of the 4's at all; the lacing changed, the angled lacing and the band has changed. Stayed with the 3's. Tried the 5's. Not comfortable with the "new" snugger fit. From the feedback at the Running Store, I think the comments indicated runners aren't sure about the new changes. Think I'll stay with the pair of 3's still in the box. Thinking of the Neuro...will be curious to know customer's feedback on this new idea...
