Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

I have always run in NB. Never had an issue until now.
The shoe is nice overall, but after only 2 miles I experienced a rubbing on the instep of my foot just behind the ball on my right foot only. It seems to coincide with a seam on the inside of the right shoe. I felt the inside of the shoe and the edge of the seam protrudes out like a very small knife edge.
By the end of my 10k, I was in pain and had a blister there.
I have experienced this with other brands. I usually use a large band-aid to cover the area on my foot and that works, but never expected it in a NB shoe.
I did notice some other reviewers had the same issue, so it is not just my shoe.

Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

I am an older, heavy runner (205) who averages 20-25 miles per week. This shoe is definitely a lot different than the previous versions, and I am undecided as to whether I am going to keep these. I definitely to not like the change to the heel cup. Too low and rubs on the outside of my left heel just below the ankle. It is worse walking in these than running. Also, I like cushion because of my left knee, and this new foam does not have the feel I like that the previous versions provided,

Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

I just received these and decided to give them a try earlier than I normally would since I just started a new 1080v5. The reason? Because of some of the negative feedback I had to see if any would affect my runs. I do not like the lower heel back. Even though I laced these to lock the heel in, I managed to get considerable slip or rubbing, which led to soreness on the outside of my left heel, just under the left ankle. I also tried walking at a fast pace to seem if I could reduce the slip, but this area was fairly sore at the end of the workout. I have been running for 50 years so I am used to pain, but when I know the source, I have to eliminate it. I will give these shoes another try after a few days of running in the v5, but I have a feeling these will be the first ones I return to RRS. The v5 is a great shoe, and this one could be also if they would reconfigure the heel cup. The rest of the shoe seems fine, and I was not affected by the tongue seam that some complained about.

Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

This shoe isn't even a close cousin to prior 1080V* models. Bought 1st pair, and wasn't happy with foam, fit, and durability, but wrote it off to manufacturing problem. Then bought 2nd pair & found them unsuitable too. Have run in every previous version of 1080...these are NOT similar at all. If NB doesn't introduce a new iteration closer to the V4 & V5, will be looking at other shoes, sigh. Would NOT recommend these to anyone. Note to NB: "If it ain't broke, DON'T fix it".

Wanted to love them but the seam and arch support, on the right shoe for me, was a deal breaker. Not sure how they let this slip through quality control. Hope the next iteration will correct this issue.

Like someone has said, the heel cup is shallow, and I agree. I put these on and the first thing I noticed was my heel slipping out with every step. There is also a seam holding the tongue to the shoe on the medial side that really made my left foot uncomfortable. I didn't even try running, because I didn't think they felt good standing or walking, so why try running.

I walk 4 times a week 4 miles at a time. I had been using the Brooks Glycin 14 products and liked it. I moved to this shoe becuase the new model of Brooks didnt fit good in the toe box, something changed. But I am glad I gave these a try. From the time i tried them on at the store they felt very cushiony. I am a Neutral 5 Comfort walker. I am 6' 5" 280 and I walk heavy on the heels and my back tends to tighten when I walk due to the pavement.

This shoe was excellent. Just took them out for my first spin and really liked it. It was very comfotable in my 4 mile walk Feet did not get to hot and really provided the cushion I needed. I am actually glad I had to try another shoe this one worked out for me. Toe box was nice and large as well. I wear a size 13 2E. Good stuff

34 year runner who has run in many different types of shoes but never had one that I sent back before even runing in them. I always break a shoe in by walking for a time in them and these gave me extreme pain on the outside of my foot. Had to take them off. I tried another insole with no improvement. The fit was fine but man did these hurt. I ran in the NB1080 v5 with no problems.
This shoe has one huge construction problem.

Comfort, comfort, comfort. For me, these are the most comfortable shoes I've had. The flexible upper just wraps ones foot so well. New Balance's wide range of sizes and widths makes sure you can tailor your shoes to fit far better than otherwise possible. The fluorescent yellow shoes I got take getting used to but not too long. Wish the blue color was avaiilable more than it appears to be at this time. RoadRunner's pricing is light years better that what's available elsewhere.

"Rides" somewhat different than previous 1080V models. Not sure yet (only about 4 runs in them) if I like them, or will go to a different shoe. Have probably had well over 20 prior 1080 models, not sure why they "fixed" something that wasn't broke.

FreshFoam is not soft. Tried several models starting with 980, no difference. Also disappointed in toebox width. Bought 4E, normally wear 2E, still gave me a blister on medial side of foot where I never get blisters. Had to lace it fairly snug to stop heel slippage. Resulted in squeezing of forefoot. Think I'm developing a nueroma. Wish I could still find 890 v4s, they were just about perfect for me.

Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

I'm 6ft, ~190 lbs, currently run about 20-25 mpw, building mileage back up for my second marathon. In a nutshell: almost a great shoe, but one potentially deal-breaking flaw.

I typically run in Saucony Triumphs (the ISO 1 carried me through marathon training and the Portland Marathon, I now run in Triumph 2s). I wanted to try a new brand, and New Balance had always appealed to me, so this shoe with similar drop and cushion seemed right up my alley.

Prior to purchase I had read that some runners were disappointed with A. this shoe still being a bit too firm and B. a deal-breaking seam on the inner part of the shoe that chafed and rubbed the foot. Despite those warnings I really wanted to give the shoe a shot, so I purchased a wide version (I have a borderline wide foot but typically run in normal widths) to hopefully account for the seam issue.

CONS: Unfortunately, the chafing issue was real. After about 3.75 miles into my first run yesterday, i began to feel the rubbing on the inside of my right arch, just behind the ball of my foot. I handle pain fairly well so it wasn't a deal breaker, and I figured I'd just power through and give the shoes another shot. I took them for a ten miler today, felt the soreness immediately (area was probably still a bit tender from yesterday), and ended up with a fairly large blister. Even so, I'm not yet convinced I'll return the shoe, since I hope at some point the seam will be less of an issue. My big takeaway is that the chafe/seam issue was real for me, and it's up to the individual runner to find out whether or not it affects them.

PROS: The cushion, ride, and support of the shoe was pretty much exactly what I was hoping for. I'd put it squarely between the Triumph ISO 1 (softest) and the ISO 2 (still cushioned, but some softness was sacrificed for the energy-returning everun material). The 1080v6 is not as soft as the the ISO 1 and has less bounce than the ISO 2, but I happened to be looking for a just-soft-enough shoe that could gobble up some miles anyways. This shoe met that expectation.

I figure I'm going to let my foot heal for a second before giving these shoes another go, and then make my decision on whether to continue with these shoes as my long run shoe. Seeing as how I liked the fresh foam material, I DO plan on taking another crack at New Balance, even if I end up returning these. And seeing as how many people have complained about the seam (not sure how New Balance overlooked this) I'm confident the company will fix this issue for the next version.

Would recommend, but with an asterisk.

six foot, 170lbs, mid-foot striker, 30-40 miles/wk. Agree with others that these have nothing to do with the old 980s ('cause they are not 980s) - bigger in every dimension, thicker, broader, heavier and much softer. I have no experience with previous 1080s or Boracays, but after five pairs of 980FFs and a pair of Zante v.1, these give me a good, 8mm drop alternative when I need more support and cushion. More firm and less stride modifying than my old Bondispeed 2s, these are the recovery day trainers that my body needed. The Zantes still feel great on speed/tempo days and my body is not bothered by switching between them and the 180v6s.

After 350 miles, the shoe still feels as good as it did on run number 1. Excellent shock absorption with a very smooth transition from heel/mid-foot to toe. While a neutral category shoe, this latest version of the 1080 feels very stable on various terrains.

Was not a fan on the 980 fresh foams, so when I tried the newest 1080 I was prepared to not like it. Wow was I wrong. I would put these up with the adidas ultra boost in terms of comfort.

Plus, look at the red and black version. It looks awesome.

Comments about Mens New Balance Fresh Foam 1080v6 Running Shoe:

Back when NB released the 980 "Fresh Foam" shoes, I tried them, and found they were not as well cushioned as other shoes I had worn and they caused some knee pain I had not had before. I relegated to the walkabout pile, nice to wear, but not to run in for me.
Now they have moved that "Fresh Foam" tech to the 1080 line. I've been wearing NB 1080 series for a couple of years and it was a shoe that provided me great cushioning and a great fit. Loved them. Unfortunately, I experienced the same symptoms after wearing this new iteration as I did when I wore the 980s. Oh NB, you've gone and ruined a great shoe in the name of " "progress." Maybe the will work for some of you, but they no longer provided the same comfort as they had before the change. Fortunately, I was able to return them to Road Runner and was able to find another stalwart shoe in the ASICS Gel Nimbus line.
