Good shoe, some durability issues

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I previously purchased these shoes a while back and wore them out after fairly low mileage on them. The upper separated from the sole, right behind the big toe on both shoes. I'm not that happy with the durability of the upper, but so far it is the only shoe that is reliably comfortable for me. This pair has some flyaway threads already in a few random spots, hopefully that doesn't lead to the same issues. I'd give 4 stars if the durability was a bit improved.

Heel slips

By Johnny

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I really didn't get a chance to try these shoes as they were too short, but even in short size the heel slipped real bad. I figured if the heel slips in short size it would be worse in bigger size. Also the arch in Altra's are just a little too high for my comfort.

Great shoes, but not perfect

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I love the new olympus 2.0, they are by far my favorite long run training shoe for ultras. The vibram sole is super grippy and for their amount of cushion they are lightweight. Also I love the wide toe box which is my main reason for buying Altras. Just a note, in my rating system 4 stars is excellent to get 5 starts the shoes need to be perfect and unfortunately there are a few cons I have noticed with these. The first is sizing, I had to size up another half size from my normal running shoe size. This is due to the ridiculously padded upper which sucks up a ton of volume in the shoe. To me there is way too much upper padding. The second issue is that since the upper is so padded the heel cup is not as deep and secure as I would like. Initially I had a ton of heel slippage which was no bueno. I needed to get creative with the lacing and have now dialed in the shoe so that I am totally secure with minimal heel slippage. All in all this is a great long run training shoe, I would not hesitate to buy another pair once these are worn down. However this shoe is not perfect and requires a little bit of tinkering to make it work. On a side note, I am not sure what Altra was doing with the gaiter trap on these shoes. They have the rear velcro for a trail gaiter but no front metal loop to attach it to like the other Altras. You attach the gaiter to the horizontal front lace which is kind of annoying. Seems like an oversight to me.

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I bought these for a series of races I was running in south Florida. The terrain was hard packed dirt, crushed shell, some rocks and roots. With this terrain the shoe worked excellent for me. I ran three 50K's and a 100 miler in them and so far they have shown little wear. They gave me excellent traction and great cushion for the hard surface. I also wore them in a race with a sand based trail. They did not perform as well on that surface. I will buy them again.

Order 1/2 size larger than your regular shoe size. Large toe box helps prevent bunion formation. Great cushioning on rocky trail.

Made me an Altra Olympus fan for life

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

My third pair in a row. This pair may have just made me an Olympus fan for life. Cushioned -- but flat -- is what I have been seeking for years. Most cushion shoes have too much heel. This shoe is perfect!

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I was looking forward to the promise of a lighter Olympus with better traction. I have a pair of Olympus 1.5 and I find they fit my feet well--the forefoot is roomy, which is the main reason I've gone with Altra. I also have Torins, and I like them quite a bit and they suit my foot shape well. With the updated Olymous 2.0 they've definitely made them lighter and also have much better traction. However, they've made them narrower and thus my little toes get squished. I don't get it! The whole selling point of Altra is to have a wide toe box, so why narrow it down over the previous model?? I'll have to return these and keep running in the Torin 2.0, a shoe I like but I'm not comfortable trying over 100 miles. I've worn the Olympus 1.5 in an 80 mile run and they worked out fine, but the weight and general clunkiness of them got to me. Altra generally is trick for fit, as they are inconsistent from model to model and from update to update. I would love it if they fixed that, and also didn't alter their shoes so drastically from one year to the next.

I am STOKED I decided to try them!

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

I decided to try these after trail running in Hokas for almost 2 years. I love the zero drop dole and the wide foot shaped toe box. They have great cushioning (I am 220) on gravel trails. The midsole is not as thick as my Hokas which makes them more predictable when running on uneven and Ricky terrain.

    Great Update Bad Sizing

    By Lenny Archuleta

    from Denver Colorado

Comments about Mens Altra Olympus 2.0 Trail Running Shoe:

this is is a great update to the 1.5 ... they have made the tongue longer so you can actually tie them down better ... also they are a lot softer compared to the 1.5 but yet the same or a smudge firmer from the first version ..the Vibram grip is very soft yet sticky .. I only ran on concrete so don't know the effects on the trails .. you can also feel how much lighter they are with softer uppers .. I am docking one star cause I ordered in a 12 but they are almost to small .. im cutting it real close .. and my foot is not standard I have a mortons toe meaning my middle toe is my biggest toe .. FYI my foot is 11 inches long and I usually wear 11 to 11.5 in shoes .. not 12.5 haha o well
