Enjoying my Hokas

By Marty V

from Sellersburg, IN

Pros

  • Cushioning
  • Weight

Cons

  • Toe Box
  • Tongue Overlayweld

Best Uses

  • Daily Mileage
  • Up Tempo Running

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

So far these have been very enjoyable to run in, an overall great shoe. They are a little firmer than the Clifton, which is what I was looking for. I do wish the toe box was a little roomier. Not much, but a little. On long runs, the side of my big toe which touched the upper had a little bit of a hot spot, nothing bad, no blisters, just a little hot. The only real criticism that I have is with regards to the tongue. Whatever that plastic/rubber overlay material is on the top of the tongue, it is hard..very hard. I feel it every step of my run poking me in the ankle. Since it is welded on, and not sewn, I can't even cut it off. I am hoping it softens over time.

Great for runners with pain

By JHB

Best Uses

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

I have had serious injuries to both knees and have zero cartilage and no posteriors. Foot problems as well . Not complaining but it has made my running quite the challenge . I run every day and use nothing but the Hokas anymore, including the boots. I always ran for pleasure and easy ride and amazing cushion has made it fun again. I hesitated trying them for a year because I thought the large soles were ugly. Since I gave in and tried them they have become things of beauty.

Great Shoe For Faster Training

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

Great shoe for runners that are:
A bit too heavy for Cliftons
Want more response than Clifton or Challenger
Want lots of cushion but don't like the marshmallow "HOKA Experience" feel.

This shoe is a lot like the Clifton except stiffer. It feels more like a traditional shoe. I really enjoy the Odyssey for gravel and faster tempos. It doesn't get as squirrelly as the Clifton at speed. The outsole rubber is firmer, thicker, and more abundant than the Clifton, so ff you're hard on the backs of your shoes, the Odyssey is a better option.

My only gripe is the tongue. It's a little stiff. Hopefully HOKA will integrate the Challenger ATR 2's tongue into this shoe. It runs a 1/2 size small.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

The previous reviewer is spot-on with the description for the Odyssey2.

    * Firmer, more responsive, than the Clifton/Challenger/etc
    * Fits about 1/2-size smaller than listed.
    * I really like the extra rubber outsole pods for durability
    * The midfoot volume runs on the smaller/narrower side, but the forefoot has nice room for toe splay. Not wide by any sense, but definitely wider than the Clifton2/Stinson3 that I have.

Nice shoe for the days when you want something more responsive but still like having cushion.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

These run small. Maybe a full size. Just came off of a stress fracture. Tried shoes that were very plush but did not work for me. These are much more responsive, light and they feel fast. They are getting broken in at about 15 miles now and I love the amount of cushioning. These are more stable than Im use to and I like it. The tread pattern works well for me too. Softer shoes with aggressive tread actually irritate my feet. These are good.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

I had the previous version of the Odyssey. Liked it so much I had two pair. When these came out, I quickly bought a pair. I took them on a 16 miler and my feet were killing. They fit tighter and shorter than the previous version. The hard material at the end of the toe box rubbed against my big toe. Hoka did the same thing with the Clifton 2, but at least the sizing was right. I'm sending these back.

Been running in this shoe for almost a month now and it has performed well for both speed work and on long runs.
Like the Clifton model but after when running more than 13 miles I developed issues with the width of the shoe on the outside of my Foot. After long runs of 16 and 18 miles have had no problems. Looking forward to many more miles with this shoe and how it will hold up.

I bought these hoping they would feel as good as there predecessor but sadly they are not. Great looking update but the shoe has changed and not all good. The original doesn't look as good as this shoe but the ride is like running on air. If Hoka would put back what ever they took out to give the shoe it's original cushion feel this shoe would be all around great!

              Buy these shoes now!

              By Rich

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Odyssey 2 Running Shoe:

This is the best Hoka shoe for me.

Likes. Light, comfortable shoe. Great on road or light trail runs. "Energy efficient". They feel like springs on your feet. Thick tongue that doesn't slide down. I'm using them for all my run workouts. Speed, short, long, tempo, hills, sprints. The shoe performs great on all of them.

Best looking Hoka shoe. Let's face it. Hokas aren't the best looking shoes out there. They are down right ugly. The thick sole makes them look like medical shoes. But, the Odyssey 2s look "normal" and won't get you any weird looks in the gym.

After 50 miles, I still haven't found any dislikes about the shoe.
