Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

Had been running in Altra trail shoes exclusively for 10 mo due to wide feet with bunions that hurt with narrower shoes. Decided to try their road shoes for more road running in wet winter weather. These Torins are amazingly light and comfortable. Seriously, I never want to take them off. My only complaint is that the heels wear very quickly - I had worn all the way through the rubber in less than 50 mi.

Beware of calf issue with zero drop

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

Very comfortable shoe with excellent cushioning. However, I had calf issues after every run with these shoes, from tightness to actual muscle tear. Didn't realize the shoes (zero drop) was the issue until I went back to my Hokas and the problem was resolved. Not for me - I will return them.

Not as good as the 2.0

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

I ran a bunch of ultra races last year in the Torin 2.0, including one very tough 100 miler, and the 2.0 was pretty much perfect. The toe box was nice and roomy and I had no blisters. I very much like the suppleness of the sole, which is great on varied terrain. I just picked up a pair of 2.5s and I'm not as happy with them as the 2.0. Like other Altra models, the update seems to have resulted in a less supple upper and a slightly tighter toe box. I'm not sure if the shoe is narrower or whether it is actually the extra padding behind the Achilles that pushes the foot forward a millimetre or so. Either way, they are too narrow. I haven't put enough miles on them to know if the new rubber on the sole makes them stiffer. They see to have more 'action', which suggests they are stiffer and that has me worried. I've a couple of pairs of 2.0s socked away and I expect that I will save them for my spring and summer 100 milers and hope that the version 3.0 is better than the 2.5. Altra makes some good shoes, but they seem with their recent updates (the Olympus for example) to have gone away from their core principles. Ultra runners love excessively wide toe boxes because our feet swell up over long races! So, why narrow them up?

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

I bought these shoes after reading the reviews. I have been running natural style for about 2 years now. Currently I run either barefoot (on the soccer fields) or with Saucony Virrata shoes on the road or True Linkswear shoes on the course (yes, I run on the golf course).

I was expecting cushiony ride but it is like driving in Lincoln Towncar, no connection to the road. I felt like i was about to fall off the shoes. I am sure I should expect some sort of loss of contact with the road with that much cushion, but this is too much.

They are very comfortable for walking, the foot feels like it's naturally sprawled out and heel holds on well. I really think they should be marketed towards walking. Would make great walking shoes even at this high price.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

I should have returned these. I was hoping they'd break in, but the heels fit my horrible. Worse heel blisters I've ever had. Guess I can maybe use them for walking. Other Altras have fit me better, so I may come back to the brand. It's my 3rd pair of Altras. I run 1200-1600 miles per year, so 3-4 pairs a year.

      Marathon go-to shoe

      By Dale

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

Great fitting shoe right out of the box. Put 9 warm-up miles on them and then wore them for a marathon. Absolutely no problems, no blisters, no foot pain which usually hampers my run.
Only down side so far is they seem to wear excessively on the heel. After 35 miles, visible sign of sole wear on the heel and the fabric on the inside of one shoe developed a hole. More rubber to meet the road definitely needed. I don't see the shoe making it to 300 miles. They are now reserved for marathons only. My Hoka's will be my training shoe.

      Say it isn't 2.0?!

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

Life long runner. 40 yr old. 181 lbs. Avg 25-40 mile/wk, 12 months a year depending on race schedule. If you loved the cushy feel of the 2.0, I'm sad to say those days are over unless you can find them. This would be my 4th pair of Torins. Truly the best shoe for me I have ever worn. I am disappointed, but not ready to give up on them. The upper is stiffer, but not bad. I have normal width feet so unlike some others that have reported a "narrowing" of the toe box, I've still got plenty of room. My disappointment stems from what seems like added dark rubber along the normal heavy wear pattern on the bottom of the shoe - lateral heel transition along the bottom to the big toe. I imagine it was a response to overall quick wear down of those areas in prior version. My personal feel is, I'd rather buy more shoes at a lower price point, than pay more for a more durable shoe that feels this stiff. I only have about 25 miles in them and it's not enough that I will send them back, but I am hunting for 2.0's in my size now. The 2.5 was a step in the wrong direction, but still not a bad shoe. Too bad.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

I've just completed a couple runs in the new Torin 2.5s but already love them and they will now be my go to road shoe. I'd say they are light enough for 5k's yet cushioned enough for marathons or ultras. The footshaped toe box lets my toes have enough room to spread out which will help keep me comfortable and blister free for long runs. I'm also a big fan of Altra's zero drop platform which I feel keeps my body aligned correctly and promotes better running form.

Comments about Mens Altra Torin 2.5 Running Shoe:

The other review is pretty harsh, the "last" for this shoe is the same as the previous model so the overall size is the same, Altra just used a more supportive upper so "super wide" feet can't spill over the side like the previous, less supportive mesh could. I love this shoe for the roomy toebox and its awesome for putting in long miles. I am not a max cushion fan and the Torin is my favorite for that sweet spot cushion, just enough to keep it smooth and comfy but not 70's disco height. I use this shoe for my long training blocks, 1/2's and Marathons.

I waited several weeks for the "new and improved" Torin 2.5 and was disappointed as soon as I tried the shoe on. In any other shoe I would wear a 2e or 4e, but the Torin 2.0's felt roomy enough for my wide feet. The Torin 2.5's are narrower in the midfoot compared to the 2.0 and won't work for me
