I love my road running Altras, so I thought I'd try the new Altra Lone Peak trail running shoe. I live in a very hot climate, so my feet sweat profusely after an hour of running. I bought these in the same size as my other pair, but these were so bulky and big, they felt like my feet were swimming in them after an hour of running. Running the downhills were tough because my feet kept sliding.
The pros: I love the room in the toe box. I toes don't get sore or feel crushed. I also like the inclusion of the gaitor velcro on the back of the shoe - now I don't have to glue velcro strips on them. I also loved that they were super easy to wash off. My HOKAs always look dirty, no matter how much I power wash them after use. But these looked like new after hosing them off.
I would still recommend these shoes, but go a half size down.
Might Get Another 50 Years of Running in These!
Gone is the acre of open weave across the toes. This upper includes lightweight front and side rock guards which helps keep out sand and lessen the chance of tearing. They seem to have just a bit more cushion under the forefoot, yet remain low and flexible. I'm wearing the Altra Stability Wedge with these as I did with the Lone Peak 2.5's, which have been my favorite racing shoes for the past year. I'm no spring chicken and have arthritis and a big neuroma in my left foot but am able to run my half marathons without pain in these. I like the sticky Trail Claw outsole. Perfect for mountain running!
They do their job on any trail
I bought these shoes for my wife after spending about a year in the men's version. She hasn't been a big fan of zero drop shoes in the past, but the pros of the Lone Peak 3.0 are outweighing the cons for her so far. She likes the traction provided by the outsole compared to all the "trail shoes" she has run in in the past. While she has a fairly narrow foot, the foot-shaped toe box hasn't caused excessive sliding for her feet inside the shoes. They've been a good purchase so far, even if they weren't a complete game changer.
"Running with total comfort for your Feet"
Oh My God ! these are the best sneakers ever, I did get the insoles to go inside these sneakers & I just love the way they make my feet feel, I have been a Marathon Runner for most of my life & I have never ever had these sneakers before ever step I take is with comfort & I love that my feet are always relax that's a big deal to a "Runner" having a good pair of sneakers to run in or do trails in & its the Altra Lone Peak Trail Running Shoe if you want to finish with comfort for your feet.
I purchased these to hike in this summer. I wanted to test them out first before any long hikes. I decided to wear them for a few hours at work. I'm on my feet all day so I thought it would be a good test run. They were so comfortable I ended up wearing them all day and every work day since! I have narrow heels but my forefoot likes plenty of room. This shoe accommodates both.
I would buy and recommend these trail sneakers.
While I haven't gotten a chance to take these on a technical course I have gone on a couple of 4 to 6 milers on the dirt roads, grass, and the side of the road and must say I love the feel of these. Having the wide toe box is great. Can't wait to try them out on technical terrain and in my trail 1/2 marathon in Dec.
Future Thru Hiker
Hate hate hate. I guess this isn't for everyone even though it is alllllllll over thru hiker blogs. I could not get used to how it felt wearing zero drop and it is a truly hideous looking piece of footwear. I'm glad I tried them. Thanks roadrunner for your awesome policy :)
Solid trail shoe!
This shoe has a very different feel from the Brooks Cascadia's I'm accustomed to wearing. The zero drop takes some getting used to, but overall, I find this to be a comfortable trail shoe. The toe box is roomy and I love the snug heel fit that keeps rocks out.
Keep getting better
If you liked the 2.0 and 2.5, you will love this shoe. They fit a bit smaller than the earlier models. I stayed with the same size and am happy with them. I might get a half size bigger next time.
Not for Achilles issues
I have Achilles Tendonitis issues and the zero drop of this shoe didn't work for me. Just walking around my house I felt my Achilles was not happy. Love the toe box though.
Not for me
Not for me... sad because I really wanted to like these. I loved the wide toe box but hated the knee pain they caused . Going back to my "old faithful " Brooks!
So far, I like them after only one 12 mile run.
Broke them in with a 12 mile run. Liked the stability and support better than the 2.0, just not sure of sizing up. My feet weren't angry but we'll see.
Love these trail running shoes!
I love the weight of the shoe and the traction. No more hurting toes with the shoe box on these. The BEST trail running shoes EVER!
Have HAPPY FEET! These fit me perfectly, so I bought 2 pair to alternate. They are the most comfortable shoes ever. Love them.
I would definitely buy these shoes again!
Love these shoes, I use them for hiking. The are so comfortable, my feet don't get sore or tired! I love the zero drop too!
not a good trail shoe for me
The toebox was great and the shoes had great cushion but I didn't get used to the zero drop. I returned them.
Best shoe ever!
Best shoes ever for walking and hiking!! I absolutely love them! They are light and unbelievably comfortable!
Bought two pairs within three weeks because I loved them!
These shoes are amazing. They all but cured my metatarsal issues. Definitely buy a half size up.
Jury still out until I get the right size
True to size, do not size up as recommended. Had to return them the next day.
Will definitely be purchasing another pair
Great shoe, I have a hammer toe and the wide toe box is heaven!
Like running on air
My daughter has enjoyed using these shoes. Very comfortable
Good cross country shoe.
