Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

I run both trails and road, this shoe is almost a hybrid. I have used it on the trail and it works well. I have also used it on the road in snowy conditions and there, it works great! These shoes are like snow tires for your feet. Fit is pretty good no complaints there. My other go to general purpose trail shoe is the Brooks pure grit. These two shoes claim to have very similar weights. But I can tell you the pure grit is noticeably lighter than the caldera in the same size.

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

I've always been a Nike guy. The Zoom Vomero was my shoe of choice but I kept kicking rocks/branches and broke a toe recently. I was looking for a show with a toe protector and all the shoes I'd been trying were too heavy without cushioning. Then Nike changed the Vomero and it became too tight a fit and I had to change.
I tried the Brooks in the store only because of the toe protector and surprisingly the shoe is amazing. The cushioning is great and so is the over all fit.
I ditched the Vomero mid marathon training and was worried it would have an impact but these shoes have been great from first wear. Wore them for the Marathon (trail) and they were great.

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

The Brooks Caldera is now my new trail shoe.I have been a Hoka guy since they came out but since Decker took them over the shoes have changed in quality. They used to use a very high-end EVA now they have gone to a much firmer (cheaper) EVA that is unforgiving and with no energy return, and after only 60 miles the Challenger ATR gets even harder as they flatten out. The Hoka speedgoat is a uncomfortable and unstable shoe and the Stinson ATR is now just a plodding foot coffin from what it used to be. This is where the Brooks Caldera comes in. While it's not as thick as the Hoka Clifton ATR the Caldera's Bio-Mojo EVA is a far superior cushion with great energy return. The shoes actually feel like they give you a bounce! Plus the toe off is excellent giving it a much more fun feel the dead thud of the Hoka. My only negative was when running on a steep side cantor my foot slips more than I would like but it's a minor issue. Even though the lugs aren't that deep they provide excellent traction. The Caldera feels light on my feet and in turns makes me run lighter and faster. A very enjoyable ride.

      Too wide

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

It's a nice looking trail shoe, but way too wide for my feet. When I cinched them up tight the heavy orange/yellow material on the sides rubbed on the sides of my feet. This would be a perfect shoe for wide feet.

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

So far so good, these are awesome! I only have a few runs in them, so can't speak to durability. The traction is great, the cushioning is perfect, and the shoe provides strong toe protection. Running through water has been good as well, they drain well and maintain their support when wet. My favorite trail shoe was the Altra Lone Peak but my tendon's couldn't handle the zero drop. I've always ran in a 4mm drop shoes and this is the perfect balance. I'm writing this review for those looking for a comfortable trail shoe to put in some long distance with a 4mm drop. This shoe will no disappoint. Not to mention they look awesome.

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

I run trails almost exclusively and have been looking for a more cushioned shoe with a more wide forefoot. The Caldera certainly has those features and it has very good grip. I have taken them out on 3 runs now of 4, 7, and 6 miles. While the ride is wonderful and I very much enjoy the extra room up front, for some reason the tongue pinches the outside of my ankle causing quite a bit of pain(mostly after the runs). Until I read the first review here I thought that it was just an oddity of my gait or physiology, but it seems that reviewer also had an issue with the tongue. Although I can't fully endorse them the ride certainly is great if the tongue doesn't cause you problems.

        Not what i expected

        By Dana

Comments about Mens Brooks Caldera Trail Running Shoe:

I was hoping that this shoe would be more like the cascadia with more cushion, but I found it less structured and more loose fitting than any other Brooks shoe I have worn. On the good side the shoe is more cushioned, the gusseted tongue and heel cup are well designed. Compared to other Brooks shoes the heel cup is not as narrow. The forefoot has much more room than other Brooks shoes I have worn. I did find the fit a bit sloppy, so I am guessing they used a different (wider) last than cascada's or adrenaline asr's. I opted not to keep the shoes as the fit did not meet my expectations of what I have experienced with other Brooks shoes. I also did not like the lacing system or how the tongue hit the front of my ankle when laced. I was disappointed after much anticipation to get these shoes. In all, I felt the fit more like a New Balance shoe than Brooks.
