I love this shoe. I bought it specifically to use on trails that include a lot of climbing on loose terrain. I didn't buy it to be a trail/run to the trail on the paved bike path shoe...it has great cushion and rides nice and offers more support than my Salomon's I used prior.

More comfortable and easier to break in than my Supernova Glides. Excellent trail shoe for neutral runner on bumpy trails. Also, very good traction on steep hills with gravel.

Ran in these right out of the box (no break in) to finish 3rd in a 10K trail race (semi-technical). I am 5'6, 155lbs, and these shoes are fast, low profile, and got more comfortable as the race broke open. No sloshing on descents, plenty of traction on loose dirt. Didn't really need much protection so can't rate that aspect. They breathe well. My only complaint was a lack of traction on firmer surfaces. I had a nasty spill on a wet bridge, which may have been user error. I would recommend these to friends. Ohh...good arch support too.

The most supportive, comfortable trail shoe I've ever trained in. I was never a distance runner but am an athlete who likes to stay fit and I enjoy training on hills and trails. Being built like a linebacker I need a shoe that can support my frame and still be comfortable. This shoe does that!!! Don't change this shoe.

I agree with the last review regarding the laces and tongue. Need more padding to prevent the lace pressure. I changed the laces and it helped, Otherwise I love this shoe...great on the downhills and forgiving on uneven terrain. ... just need a few tweaks and it would be perfect.

I have run adidas Supernova trail for 5 ultra mountain runs a year for the last 7 or so years. I ran my first ultra in vintage 1986 marathon trails in fact. I have been a long time adi loyalist. The SNT shoe worked for me as a stability/netral + runner, mid weight running doing about 50-75 miles per week. The mid foot post was great, cushioning just right, great heel cup/support, seemless/no hot spots, good lacing, light enough for the long haul, breathable. The riot has lost the chemistry of the predecessor. The tongue is thin and the laces grind into the top of your foot over time. If you are a ligher, mid mileage (<30 Miles/week), narrow footed, neutral+ runner looking for a half marathon trail shoe, this could work. For me, I beg the product manager at adidas, bring back the original Supernova trail from 2007/8. It worked!

I am 6'0" and 185 lbs. I came from wearing a neutral shoe to a stability shoe after having my gait analyzed. So far after putting about 100 miles on this shoe I can say that it is the most comfortable shoe I have worn so far. I run the mountains at ranges from 8 to 20 miles, the lug/tread pattern instill great confidence when I am bombing down the steep mountain single tracks. For my weight I feel that the cushioning is just right all around. The only problem I had was during the first couple of runs. The part of the shoe that rubs against my achilles tendon area was putting a little pressure and making that area sore after long runs, now its fine after the shoe has been broken in.

I am 6'2" 260 pounds leanish weight lifter. My size restricts me to most running shoes due to them being way too soft for "my" weight. The Riots are designed for larger runners and I have no problem with fatigue using them on or off road. Some people think the Riots are too soft due to the heel being “decoupled” or separate from the rest of the sole. This I feel only helps in a seamless transition in your stride, and has no feeling of being “mushy”, just smooth and extremely stable. I tried the Brooks Cascadia 3 and much preferred the fit and feel to the Riot and I know it’s a better all around shoe, however the Cas 3 were too stiff for “me” and I felt a noticeable impact. Granted the Cas 3 is primarily for off road & dirt. Regardless, NO complaints on the Riot. It’s the best shoe for “me” and the best running shoe I’ve ever felt, period.

Stability is so important over long distances. We get weak, we get tired, we get hazy and we get a sprained ankle. This shoe has given more stability and support than any other shoe I've worn. Not the lightest, but the protection is a good trade.

Best trail running shoe I've ever owned. These shoes are the perfect balance of light weight, traction, comfort, support and overall trail feel. The split heal increases traction when running downhill and increases cushioning. The soles have a great tread that generates confidence and helps keep your feet in place when blasting up hills. Overall, a great shoe for long runs in the mountains. And the shoe is supportive without being rigid. (I'm about 155 lbs, and find that the shoe is sufficiently supportive, even after 15 mile runs on rocky single track with long descents.)

The Riot fit well and had good stability and traction, but the cushioning was too soft, too cushy for running on single track trails. I'm 6'1", 190 lbs. Lighter runners may have different results.
