These got me through the NJSP Academy. PT 3-5 times a week on the blacktop, gravel and beach all with no shin splints or lower extremity problems.

The shoes were very comfortable providing a good blend of support and cushion. The only negative about them is they wore out very quickly (3 months).

I switched from the Mizuno Wave Rider when they widened the toe box from 9 to 10. The Cumulus is heavier and less responsive, but the fit is dead on and the cushioning excellent, especially in the midfoot(like going from a BMW to a Cadillac). A very good high mileage trainer. I wouldn't race in it.

Just so that all of you know, pronation means flat foot. This shoe is not for flat feet. This is a shoe for those that supinate or have high arches. Look at the bottom of the shoe and you will see in the middle that the arch is raised. The heel is supposed to be less stable. Hope you got it know.

I love this shoe for my long runs (15+ miles). It has the cushion for distance, but still feels light and responsive. With increasing prices, this shoe, and its price, can't be beat

These shoes are a God send. I've been dedicated to New Balance for 25 years, but my last few pairs of NB have been major disappointments. I have had constant ankle, knee and muscle soreness during and after my runs. My first run in the Cumulus 8 was pure bliss. They felt great from the first step. No more pain. The cushioning is great with a comfortable, natural stride. I haven't felt this good running in a long time.

This is a very good shoe. I got the same speed as DS racer but with more cushioning and I'd run a new personal record on 10k

Life Cliff, I am flat footed with a neutral stride. These are easily the best shoes for my particular foot type and running mechanics.

I've run in the Cumulus exclusively for several years. It's always been a great shoe. However this 8 version seems to lack something. I still consider it a good shoe but with this model my feet ache in the later miles of long runs.

After 4 years of trying shoes, I found a pair my ankles and knees can tolerate. I am 5'11", 155 lbs. so frame and running style is a factor, but these have been awesome!

I found that these shoes do not live up to the expections of the Cumulus VII. The rearfoot cushioning is not that of the VII. These shoes are lighter but after long runs your ankles and knees will know the difference.

I don't think the Cumulus 8 is any good, but maybe it's because my expectations were so high because of the Cumulus 7s, which I still maintain are the greatest neutral shoes of all time. With the 7s, I was able to just lope and feel the ground and push off, kind of like a racing flat, but with a more comfortable ride. I expected the same feeling with the 8s, but instead it just wasn't smooth at all and I feel like I have to power through each step. Also I don't get the 'feel the ground and spring forth' experience with the 8s. Maybe they just added too much technology here and lost a lot of flexibility in the process.

Thu, March 01,2007:
I'm 5'10", and 155 lbs. Because of my flat feet, a salesperson recommended that I run in stability shoes (Asics GT 2110s). I used those for over a year, but always had nagging knee and foot issues (had to defer a marathon entry back in 2005 because of foot problems). I went to a different store - one that had a video camera set up behind a treadmill, with a monitor in front so I could see the rear of my feet and legs while I ran. I noticed, and this salesperson agreed, that I don't overpronate - I have a very neutral stride. She steered me to these shoes. My nagging knee and foot problems went away soon after, and I completed my first marathon in 2006. So I can recommend this shoe for flat footed runners with no pronation problems (not so common, but we're out there!).

I bought these shoes (size 9 2E) and the Mizuno Wave 9, BOTH are great shoes, but found the Wave Rider 9 fits me better width wise.

I have had problems with my heels with the last 7 plus shoes i have tried, then i found these gems. Conforms to my foot feeling really cushioned & springy. Had to get a half size bigger cause of my wide feet i have the white and copper model. I finally found my Marathon shoe!!!!!!!

I must disagree with a lot of the characterizations about this marvelous shoe. This, IMO, is the best neutral high mileage trainer on the market. It's not for you if you have any pronation issues.
Just a simple, flexible, well-cushioned trainer. Way to go ASICS!

The cushioning in these shoes is excellent, and the fit good for narrow feet/high arches. Very breathable, and supportive. The support & cushion really make a difference on long runs.

I went on vacation and left my New Balance 1010s at home. These were the only pair in the local shoe store that fit me. I figured they were better than nothing. To my surprise they have been awesome! Lots of cushion in the heel, and a springy ride. I'm 5'11" and 190 pounds and log 30+ miles per week. Absolutely wonderful shoes for a big guy. I haven't tried the more expensive Nimbus yet, but may when these are shot. For the money, these are a great buy!!!

I switched to this shoe from Adidas Supernova cushion due to the wide size offered. However, the shoe lacks cushioning in the forefoot and anything above 12 miles my soles begin to complain. I have switched back to the Supernova and gone up a full size. So far so good.

After some research and many reviews i gave this shoe a shot. There is plenty of cushion in this shoe but the heal to toe transition is pretty bad. This shoe does work for long slow runs, but for any up tempo runs forget it. Theres not enough flexibility
