By Taylor Gonsoulin

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

I have worn these shoes for about 2 years as my racing shoes (about 15 races). I do mostly duathlons, so I outfitted the shoes with a pair of matching Yankz! Sure Laces. I have high arches and weigh 175 lbs, so these have the cushioning I need while still being light enough for racing. Like most Asics, these felt "broken in" right out of the box. Very durable. Highly recommended.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

Really great for its function. I'm 6'2", 165 and I've used this shoe for racing 5K to Marathon and 1-2 times per week for speed work. It is fantastic. The shoe never crosses my mind at all while running in it - just feels so natural. My only complaint (small one) is trying to keep crud (mashed leaves, berries from the ground) from getting stuck in the tread under the forefoot. I obsess about cleaning them before a race, but I guess that's my own sanity issue!

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

I use these as my daily trainer. I work on my form all the time, and I find minimalist shoes are better for my joints. I can sense the ground better and run more smoothly, which means less pounding on my body. No shoe can compensate for bad form. These shoes have just the right amount of cushion and flexibility. In this case less is more! I'm 5'8'', 155 pounds, so I'm not a stick man.
I have a borderline wide foot, and I sized up a whole size. Most people should wear the same size speedstar 2 as other asics shoes and size up a half size. I just needed a bit of extra room.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

Just ran PFChang marathon and had less than 50 miles on them - NO PROBLEMS! none what-so-ever. I was very apprehensive because they were 1/2 size smaller then my regular size. I wore these because they felt better than my race ready Saucony Tangents - better forefoot cushioning and plenty of support for effecient runners. I gave it only 4 stars because not sure on longevity yet - GREAT SHOE!

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

If it is speed you want then it is speed you will get. Simply put, this shoe lives up to its name! It is amazingly lightweight and remarkably well-cushioned for its weight. It may not be durable enough to use as an everyday trainer, but when paired with a sturdier shoe it makes for an excellent race shoe. I set my 5K PR in them. These shoes are quick.

Excellent racing and training shoe. Perhaps the best shoe I have ever owned. Comfortable yet very light; just the right cushioning to fit my medium arch feet and "regular" gait. Perfect for both performance training and racing. I am 5'9" and weight 76kg.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

The speedstar II is my shoe of choice for all my races...5k to marathon. The shoe is cushioned, responsive, and lightweight. I'm 5'8' - 150 lbs, high arches, mid-foot strike, 50 - 80 miles/week. The shoe exhibits almost no wear at the heel, but the duosole is somewhat less durable than my everyday trainers. I also wear mizuno wave rider, wave precision, and asics gel cumulus. This shoe offers more cushion than the precision and a significant weight savings versus the cumulus. Simply, my favorite shoe.

Fabulous shoe for both distance and speed workouts. I have a neutral/sligt supination to my stride and this shoe works great. The ride is not harsh, but certainly not overly 'cushiony'. This is an excellent shoe for a marathon. At 180 pounds, I still get plenty of support with it. Of only the color was cooler...

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar II Running Shoe:

The speedstar is an excellent and lightweight neutral trainer light enough for racing. I bought the shoe to replace the Asics DS Racer for use on downhill marathons and I don't think I'll switch back, even for flat races. The weight difference is negligable, but the speedstar feels much more substantial and cushy. After the St. George Marathon, famous for destroying feet, I have nary a blister.
