Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

I do not recommend Kayano 13. Aside from the sizing issues (seems little larger), the cushioning is not there. Good for 1-5 miler but anything over, get something else. I am a 35+mpw guy 160lbs 5'8"

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

I've worn Kayanos since #5 back in the late 90's. Kayano #7 is my favorite and this (#13) is probably one of the worst. I run about 5-10K (3-6 miles) and immediately I found that the bottom part of the tongue started digging into the joint of my left big toe. I've tried tying the laces more loosely and even tried trimming away at the excess material on the tongue. Nothing seems to work. Went back to running in the Kayano 12's and am looking for a better shoe.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

Didn't care for the feel of the shoe but bought it based on reputation. Not a well built shoe for the price. I had trim pieces still hanging on mine I had to remove when I took them out of the box. After wearing the shoes for a couple of hours to break them in my feet began to go numb from the shoe being overly narrow in the midfoot. There is no way I can lace these tight enough to run in. I think their size, like mizuno, must not be structured for the American foot. Bought Adidas supernova in the same size and love them.

Must be getting old as this shoe feels nice but my feet kill me after runs - underfoot and ankles. I was hoping it would clear . . . but after 2 weeks it is still a problem. I am a heavy runner (235lbs) so I look for some stability. Not sure where to now?

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

I started running about 2 years ago. First to lose weight but after a couple of months I started enjoying it. Finally I got into the shoe lottery and after doing a lot of research I went with the extra wide Kayano 13. I am averaging about 30 miles per week now for the last year or so and I must say this shoe does it's job well. I am not sure if the shoe is causing the shin splints on others legs but I did a marathon and a half in mine, they're almost up to 300 miles and need replacement pretty soon but I am still feeling no pain whatsoever. I think it's a great shoe and will go for another one. For all the people having problems out there. Try to alternate between different shoes so that your legs and feet can not get used to one particular type of shoes. I've got 5 different pairs and switch them around and all seem to be doing it for me pretty good

I have been a faithful Gel-Kayano runner from way back... but I must say with recent version changes this shoe is now causing pain in my lower legs and ankles. I'm not sure, but I think the stablilty + rating needs to be lowered. The front foot area is very flimsy and provides little support as it used to in earlier models.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

The Kayano 13 is one of if not the best running shoe I've ever owned. Excellent cushioning in heal and forefoot. The arch support is firm - great for those of us with medium/low arches. I have been running in the Brooks Adreneline for the past 6 mos and developed an inner ankle shin splint. Once I switched to the Kayano, the pain went away within a week. Everything about this shoe is an A+ except the price - ugh.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

i had an odd experience with this shoe. i typically use the brooks adrenaline for most of my runs but was looking for a shoe for longer distance runs (15+ miles). so, i tried the kayano and felt that it had less stability than the adrenaline but more flexability. so, i ended up using the kayano for my speed workouts. for this purpose the shoe was outstanding. However, the purpose for me buying the shoe was for long runs and i didn't feel they held up too well for that purpose. All in all, an okay shoe, but if i had to pick, i would take the adrenaline all day long. On top of that the kayanos are $40 more. not worth the money.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

I'm not a long time Kayano or asics wearer, but I have to say that the Kayano 13 is the best shoe I've ever run in. I alternate between the Kayano and GT2120, and the Kayano is my favorite, though the GT2120 isn't far behind. It took me a few runs though to really get where I liked the Kayano, where the GT2120 was awesome out of the box.

bad design, ok cushion/stability. the shoe has a really bad tread/ball of the foot design. there is a channel between ALL of the knobs under the ball of foot that allows the forefoot to flex way too much for this caliber of shoe. the heel is fairly comfy, but i run right through the forefoot, causing some pain after 5 miles. not as much arch support as i expected from a shoe recommended for high arches. very dissappointed for the money.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kayano 13 Running Shoe:

Bought these shoes about 3 months ago - my fifth pair of Gel Kayanos. These are possibly the worst running shoes I have ever purchased. I have had constant injuries, tendinitis, ankle pain since buying them even after replacing the inadequate inner doles. I recently purchased Saucony Grid Fusions for $50 and they are far superior. Asics has steadily increased the price and decreased the quality of these premium running shoes. They need to get their act together.

I used to live by Nike's until I realized they are all about style instead of performance. After much frustration with shoes, I decided to to jump brands to Asics and purchased these Kayanos. So far, so good. It is true that these shoes are slightly heavier than the norm, but they carry tons of bounce in them. My feet are blisterless and I haven't developed any abnormal leg pain from the Kayanos. I am a fairly lightweight runner, so don't misled that these shoes are only for a certain body type. The only thing preventing me from getting another pair of these in the future is the price. However, Asics has won over another customer in me.

6th or 7th pair of Kayano's and not as pleased with this version as I'm encountering problems with stiff achilles on both sides -not sure if it's the extra gel, the heal is slightly higher, or there is less flex. Great and amazing shoe. I can not see why people are giving the new Kayano 13s a bad rap. Very good stablility and dazzling cushioning, it exceeds every expectation for runners with average archs. The price is a little steep, but definitley worth it.

I have been running in these for over 200 miles and have to say that they are not what I thought they would be. I have read a lot of the reviews and see the words "stiff" and "dead" a lot. That's exactly what I feel. These just don't have the cushioning of previous Kayanos. I've run in the 11's and 12's. I'm not saying this is a bad shoe, and apparently a lot of people like it, but it's different and not in the same line as the 11's and 12's. My upper legs and lower back have been taking a pounding in these.

I normally take a EE width in street shoes, but have not seen the necessity to take a wide size in running shoes until now. Luckily, I called a RRS advisor prior to ordering this shoe. He advised me to get the EE width because they fit a little narrower than previous K models. He was dead on. The EE shoes I have are barely roomy enough in the toe box for my comfort, and it's a good thing I don't like thick socks or they would not fit! Order 1/2 size smaller than previous K's. Most reviewers have stated the heel is more snug. In fact, I had to run the first few miles with the first eyelets laced in the rear position because I experienced very slight heel slippage. Having made this correction, the shoes have quickly worn in nicely just like any other Asics and I have returned the laces to the forward position. My experience has been quite good so far. As with any running shoe, lose the factory insole and get one from RRS. It will make your feet happy.

Been running clean and free in the Kayano 11's for two years and was afraid to change. But, I started getting that "dead-leg" feeling and decided to give these a go. Wow. These are the perfect combination of stability and cushion - without feeling too bouncy. Out with the 11's. In with the 13's.

I had planned on running my first marathon in my Brooks Beast...as a flat-footed, overpronater w/wide feet, I figured I'd need all the support I could get. While training w/the Beast, I was never able to complete more than 17 miles due to foot pain. During my long runs in the Beast, it felt like I was running on bricks after about 13 miles...I had to literally hobble the last 2 miles when I completed the 17 miler. The foot pain was just too severe. Two days before the big day, the realization set in that I would never be able to finish the race based on my long runs. I figured that the adrenaline would carry me, but that was kind of a risky bet. Out of desperation, I bought a pair of Kayanos. Although a big risk, I figured it was the best chance I had. Having only put in a couple of 3-milers w/them, I readied myself for a disappointing first-time marathon. Thanks to the Kayanos, I was able to complete the marathon w/a decent time. My feet didn't start to hurt until mile 24!

Didn't like this shoe compared to the XI or XII. Why? It fits so wide in the toebox that my foot keeps slipping around in the shoe leading to knee pain. Those people that have never ran in Kayanos and do not know any better may like this shoe as it's superficially comfortable out of the box. But in my opinion this is one of the worst iterations of the the Kayano and I will steer clear with this version. I'm very disappointed to be stuck with an expensive gardening shoe. I can't train in this shoe. Keep in mind this is only one person's opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt. You may love this shoe as everyone is different.

This shoe is love or hate. For those with a wide foot and with moderate to high stability needs, this shoe might do very well. However, I personally found this shoe to fit extremely wide in the forefoot, wide in the midfoot, regular fit in the heel, with a huge emphasis on stability, more so than prior versions. The shoe just fit way loose and sloppy. That being said, the shoe felt quite light and responsive for very short runs. I need a daily trainer for ultra-marathon training and this shoe doesn't cut it, unfortunately. After the 30-35 mile mark you tend to really notice the lack of forefoot cushioning, and that's coming from a fairly light runner 146 pounds, 5'10" tall. Sorry, but this shoe definately doesn't do it for me, but that's not to say it won't work for you. I'd say this shoe would be great for the large framed low mileage type runner looking for what appears to be a nice Cadillac ride for short 5-10 mile runs with a need for strong overpronation control.

I was a little unsure whether or not to buy this shoe, after some of the negative ratings. This shoe did not disappoint. Yes I know we all fall in love with a shoe and never want to move on to the new model. Those people should just purchase two dozen Kayano 12 and use them until they pass away. This shoe is light but provides the cushioning to keep the knees and feet happy. I have put about 150-200 miles on them and they look new still, so I wear them with my normal clothes sometimes. I am about 5'10'' and weigh about 175 lbs - and have normal arches. Perhaps a bit pricey is my only complaint, but I've gotten them as low as $108 - they are worth the money. Don't pay too much attention to all the haters and complainers upset they stopped making Kayano 12's...this is a good all around running and training shoe which will hold up over the miles.

I agree that the Kayano 13 is a HUGE disappointment for those runners that have been satisfied with the Kayano 11 and 12's. The last is different from the past and the toebox is w-i-d-e with the fit rather sloppy feeling. The 2110 seems to be a much better ride despite the lower price due to the better snugger overall fit and the sensation of better forefoot cushioning. Bad ASICS, bad, for changing for the worse. ASICS is like that trying to fix what works for many. Perhaps, I'll give the Adistar Control 4 a try. The Adistar seemed to fit very nice and is priced in the same ballpark as the 2110/2120. Anyone switch from Kayano to Adistar and can post your opinions?

I was surprised to see an average rating of 3 when I checked out these KY 13s, since I just ran in them for the first time in my first 10k last Sunday. I had run in Nikes (91-96) until they turned the TriaxMax into a fashion shoe like all their other models. Then I found Saucony and had ran in them from 96 until last Friday when I started getting a blister after 6 miles. Seeing that I had to run antoher 6 for the 10k last Sunday, I had no choice but to risk buying new shoes and racing in them before I even ran in them. Guess what, no blister. So what does that mean, it means that I spent over an hour trying on 7 different brands before MY FEET told me which pair to buy, and that is THE BOTTOM LINE - ask your feet what works for you not some reviewer that is frustrated with a new model. I had been running in the Saucony Hurricane 7s and then bought the 8s and they sucked. So I couldn't help but smile at the old time Asic fans getting frustrated - I hear ya'! : )

Bigtime Dissappointed!!! I am a bigger runner, 202 lbs, and I have narrow feet, so fit is difficult to say the least. I was an avid fan of the Asics GT2110(had 3 pairs to train for a Boston last year). I upgraded to the Kayano 13 for this season and I must say that for me they are not working at all. In store this shoe felt butter smooth from heel strike to toe off, with plenty of room in the forefoot. However after 70 miles out on the street, the kayano's are killing my feet! After the short breakin period the shoes have become far too wide in the toebox, such that I waste energy trying to keep my foot stable in the shoe. This struggling to keep my foot stable leads to terrible cramping in my calves, and the cushioning feels as though the shoes are completely worn out. Unfortunately I have gone back to my old GT2110's for the moment until I find a replacement. It pains me that I paid huge cake, $135, and they svck compared to my $90 2110's

I'm not a big fan of the new ASICS Kayanos. I've been a Kayano loyalist since the VIII's, but have been perplexed by both the 12's and 13's. The 12's fit long and narrow. The 13's fit a touch shorter than the 12's and wider in the forefoot. These new Kayanos definately fit a new category of runners (in comparison to the 8's,9's,10's,11's) with a wider forefoot and heel compared to previous iterations that fit smaller and more snug to the foot. The ride is a lot firmer compared to say, the 11's. The 12's and 13's seem to ride hard and my forefoot experiences pain after 20 miles on long Sunday runs. Although I've used Kayanos for the past 7 years, I'm currently looking for alternatives such as the Saucony Hurricane 9 and the Adidas Adistar Control 4 (man, that's one light breathable shoe, but what's up with the hideous lime green graphics?).

I run typically 25-35 miles a week and have been using Brooks Adreneline for my past 2 pairs of shoes. I recently went to purchase the new Adrenaline but it felt terrible so I switched to Kayano. Felt ok in the store but on the first run I did, a paltry 3-miler, I wound up in so much shin/calf pain I had to walk the last 1/4 mile. I'm not willing to write these off yet; I'm hoping they'll get better once broken in but I'm skeptical right now. Not the place I want to be with new shoes at the start of race season.

The Kayano 13 is substantially different from prior versions. Some changes were good; some less so. It maintains that "bedroom slipper" feel, but it lost the wonderful "fit like a glove" in the heel (compared to prior versions). The "13" has a touch more cushioning in the heel and forefoot, both which I like. Overall, I like this shoe better than the "XII," and I plan to do a lot of miles in them.

The Kayano XIII is a radical departure from the previous iteration with what I find to be a high volume shoe. The XIII fits wide compared to the narrower XII. However, like the Kayano XII, the XIII is long in the length compared to say, the Kayano X or XI which seem to fit 1/2 size smaller. I find the Solyte cushioning in the forefoot to feel firm and light which translates to the sensation of a quicker leg turnover. However, after 30 mile training runs, I can definately feel the cushioning in the forefoot to be less cushioned than say, the X of yesteryear. All in all, the XIII is a comfortable, stable, shoe but not my favorite Kayano by a long shot.

Having worn over 20 pair of Kayanos in virtually all models, I know what they feel like. Yet, when I first put on the 13's I was sure I had gotten the wrong shoe. It has a totally different feel--much stiffer--and, as others have noted, it sizes differently (without any warning). If Asics is going to change the way a shoe fits after years and years of consistency, then say so. Don't make review bloggers spread this word. And of course the very very mixed reviews of this model--worst ever for a Kayano--raise the usual question why in the world Asics is making major changes to perhaps the single most popular shoe in running shoe history. Why? And now that so many people are complaining, why not go back to what worked. This isn't a terrible shoe, and giving it a one star review is silly, but Asics really missed the boat on this one and, if it wants to keep the legacy of this shoe alive, it should consider some quick revisions.

The fit of the XII and XIII detracts from the fit of previous models like the excellent XI. Specifically, it appears that the XII and XIII both fit about 1/4 size larger than the previous X and XI models with a narrower heel and midfoot. If you have a wide foot you might not like this shoe even in the E widths. The newest versions are lighter due to the Solyte but at the cost of forefoot cushioning. I really notice the reduced cushioning during training runs when at mile 20 the shoes feel flat. Not a bad shoe, but I dislike how the fit has changed radically from previous versions.

I happen to like the Soylent Green midsole, did Charleton Heston wear these in "The Omega Man"? He did a good job out-running those zombie vampires! I like the red color, too! A bit pricey, perhaps...

In case u missed what category you're in, you're supposed to be reviewing the Kayano, not that 2000 series. And, since you haven't run in the 13's, you have no standing to post a review here.I will post my second review of 5 stars.

the solyte has been a disaster for asics !!!

Mon, January 29,2007:
I have not tried the 13 yet but I know from trying the 12 plus the new 2120 that the new solyte that ascics puts in the shoes to make them lighter makes them less stable. I have run in Kayanos and 2100 Sereis forever and my feet hurt after running in these shoes for more than 6 miles. I ran Tucson marathon in 2120's and had major problems than I just ran Rock N Roll Phoenix and swithced back to 2110 and all of the problems disappeared. I prefer the heavier shoe with better stability. 2110's were not heavy in the first place. Not a big fan of Solyte and not sure what I am going to do when my closet is empty with 2110's. Everybodys feet are different and everyone has a different need from their shoes.

Great shoe. I've been running in the Kayano for the past few years and I really enjoy them. They seem to get better with every new model. And this model does not disappoint. kudos to asics.

Great shoe. Fit well and comfortable. Been wearing Kanyano's since early last year and find these to be the best.

Went to the local running shoe store. Got measured; brought the 13s. Developed Achillies problems. Back the shoes went. The 1/2 size smaller advice didn't work for me. Enough said.
116.    Purchase the Correct Size.... rated this product 5 stars
Thu, January 25,2007:
If I read about one more person complaining about a 'lower heel' and 'achilles problems. You people need to buy the shoe in the correct size for your feet. I did that (which coincidentally was 1/2 size smaller than the size i've been buying in K's my whole life), and they are absolutely perfect. Don't order them online UNTIL you try them on in a store because this year's model is totally revamped and much larger than before. For example, I hold my 11 1/2's up to my old K 12's in size 12, and they are the exact same size (length, width, etc..). Please heed my advice and you'll elated with your K13's!!!!

I used Kayanos for several years, switched to Nike, and now came back to try the 13s. Seems you either love them or hate 'em. Ran a 5 miler out of the box, no problems. Fifth run in them was a 15 miler. Big time Achillies tightness the next day. For some bizarre reason, thes heels are lower than pre-13s. Not hard to figure why people are having Achillies issues with a lower heel.

I've run in Kayano's for 10 years and have done 13 marathon's, but unfortunately, I'm a bit gun-shy with the new ones. It seems my tendons get irritated the days I use the new ones and have no problems wearing my old ones with 300+ miles on them! I hope they pick a model from 3 to 6 years ago and copy it exactly for the next update!! It's hard to improve on a perfect shoe but easy to make it less perfect.

WOW-can not believe some of these reviews. The K13's have got to be the most complete Kayano to date. It is absolutely the perfect blend support and cushioning for the broadest range of runners.Tis shoe was born Fall 1993and for a shoe at this level to be in the top 5 in sales year after year.

PERFECT!! To be clear for EVERYONE out there, the Kayano 13 is sized larger than ever before. You need to buy a 1/2 size SMALLER than what you've been buying in past Kayanos. This is the key. If you buy the same size you've been buying in past K's, you will most definitely suffer from numerous problems including knee, shin, etc... because the shoe will not be doing what it is designed to do for you. Make sure it fits like a glove. Don't let your heel have ANY extra room!! Sorry for the long-winded exhortation, but the running community needs to know the truth about the K 13. It is better than ever PROVIDED you purchase the correct size for your feet!!!! Hopefully this review will serve to quell some of the naysayers out there who don't understand the new design specs of the K 13. And, above all, I don't want poor sales of the K 13 (due to uniformed reviews on sites such as this) to lead to the demise of the Kayano, because it truly is the best running shoe ever made.

Very disappointed. I expected a lot more for $135. I do 35 miles a week and these shoes are not any better than Asics' $85 editions.

Anyone who rated this product less than 5 stars is not a real runner. This is the best running shoe out there. Anyone who claims they got a blister, or their achilles hurts, or whatever, doesn't run 50-70 miles per week like me. I have to say this is the absolute best-cushioned, most durable, longest lasting shoe out there, and it keeps getting better with every single new model. Other brands aspire to produce this type of quality but don't reach this level.

Price point seems a bit high. Heel is low as in other recent Kayanos. Medium cush. Closely resembles previous model.

This is probably the 9th or 10th pair of Kayano's that I have run in...and I will continue to buy Kayano's again. As typical they are roomy in the toe-box, snug in the heal, and all around comfortable. I do suggest a good pair of insoles to replace the cheap mfg's cheap insoles...I like the RRS b/c I am 6'1" & 215+ and they provide great support (especially in the heals).

I've worn Kayanos off and on for many years. First few runs were great in the 13s. After that, developed achillies soreness, seems shoes are lower in heels than prior Kayano models.
