Did research when I bought them and they were recommended for neutral to supinators. Lasted 4 months before the shin splints and sore hip kicked in. I run between 15-20 miles a week. Comfortable while they lasted. Was hoping to get 6-7 months out of them. A bit disappointed. Switching to New Balance 757, give them a shot.

I am used to wearing Gel-Speedstar, so these felt a bit sluggish in comparison. However, they were very comfortable right out of the box, no breaking in required.

First pair, cumulus 8, I loved. The
Cumulus 9 feels like it was cut a litle
shorter than prev. model; even after sizing up 1/2 hurt back of my foot.
Can you say"time for a new brand?"

Just logged over 550 miles in one pair since January 1 and really like this shoe. I am 6' tall and 208 lbs and used these shoes on a 50K trail race, maybe not the best shoe for trail traction, but I enjoyed the ride. Will purchase another pair. I like the cushion and the low profile for a tad of stability.

This shoe is solid, especially when you can get a pair for $64 total from rrs. What a deal!
I've always ran in Cumulus 8, and so far I like the Cumulus 9 even better. I ran 11 in them today and felt like I was floating.

I would give this shoe five stars for excellent fit. It really fits like a glove. Unfortunately, these shoes really fall short in cushioning. The older SPEVA based versions were excellent. These new Solyte versions are not a good choice for long distance running. I switched back to Cumulus 5 that was offered by RAS in Clsssic section. It really made a huge difference. My feet feel much better after long runs. I hope that ASICS gets rid of this Solyte material.

Fri, January 18,2008:
The cushioning and flexibility is great; however, I ordered 2e and they fit more snug than any d I ever worn. I use to run in the Cumulus in the early days of this model but switch midway due to all the changes that changed this shoe. I tried the 9s because they looked like the early version but something is wrong with the width.

Fantastic! I've run in Cumulus for 3 generations now and as far as I'm concerned, they're just as good as their more expensive (Nimbus, Kayano) cousins. Superb cushioning, but not so much that it takes away from my natural gait.

Sat, November 24,2007:
Not a fan. I liked the 8 for its cadillac cushioning. The 9 is not nearly as soft. But there's been no corresponding improvement in performance. It's not a fast shoe (feels like a tank on the track) and it lacks lateral stability. Frankly, it doesn't feel particularly neutral either - keeps pushing me to the outside of my feet. I think it's just poor cushion design. Won't buy again.

I am 41, 5' 11" 185. I run a 5 mile morning run and 4.5 mile lunchtime run 5 days a week. I bought two pairs as I usually do, and am twice bitten. Beware of these shoes unless you are a millionaire and can buy a new pair every month. I have been a staunch asics guy for years and have run in cumulus for quite a while now and my knees have been witness to the steady decline of the franchise. They should change the name from solyte to socheap. The cush was great initially, but literally a month after I bought the shoes they were done, my knees hurt and I had to buy new ones. Very disappointing, to say the least. I am a month in running on Brooks glycerin (mornings) and dyads (lunchtime) and they feel like they are barely broken in.

I think this is a bit better than the Cumulus 8s. Its more flexible, a bit faster and the forefoot cushioning is softer. However, I think this shoe is better for runners who are already in shape. When I run slowly with these, they seem to work against me, but on days I fly on the long runs, they feel great.

Good shoe overall - this is a netural shoe that goes well with my custom orthotic - i tried some others with the orthotic and they kept over correcting me.. I trained for my first half marathon and marathon ever at age 56 and i had no blisters and no feet problems... unlike the shoes i tried before.. i never tried asics before but I have not bought three pairs as gets up heavy miles..

6'2'', 165 lbs. neutral w/ high arches, 20-30 miles per week. the cumulus continues to be my go-to shoe from long to tempo runs. good cushion w/o being mushy. good for narrow feet. noticeably lighter than previous version, and the grooves in the sole are deeper making it more flexible. i have tried saucony progrid triumph (toe-box too wide, caused blisters, although cushioning was great) and nike hayward (not enough arch support for longer runs, even for neutral runner). cumulus is the best all around running shoe i've found. give it a try!

This is a superb update! Almost a full 1.5 ounces lighter and more flexible heel to toe. PHF collar and Solyte midsole are solid changes. Good overall heel and forefott cushioning without feeling mushy! Felt wonderful on a 12 mile long run essentially right out of the box.
