5'8", 115 lb junior in highschool. attempt to train high mileage (60) but have failed to do so in many shoes due to osgood schlatters (growing pains). these shoes reduced the pain a great amount and have the best feeling cushioning of all the shoes that I have tried. I also like the cushioning in that it is not too soft like the vomero, leaving me with a good pop in my stride. Best training shoe I've tried (have tried many) and better than the 8's

pretty good shoe- i had the nimbus 8 and i thought they were great until the bottom wore out only 2 months after i bought them. they were then garbage so wasnt expecting to much out of these but 4 months later running 4 miles a day and they still feel like new. ive recently about a month ago stepped it up to 8 miles a day since its summer and still no problems. Only think is i bought them about a month before the nimbus 10's came out so now im stuck with the 9's. But still happy. :-)

Comments about Men's ASICS Running Shoes | ASICS GEL-Nimbus 9 - Road Runner Sports:

There is no Asics distributor here in Chile, so I had to order these without being able to try them out first. In addition, I ordered a pair of Cumulus 9s as a backup.
On my first long run, I started to develop a blister on my left arch. However, I must disagree with other reviewers who think it's a sizing problem (they couldn't fit better), because upon closer inspection, I noticed that the last stitching in the left shoe was much looser in that area than the stitching in the right one. Loose enough to move during a run and cause irritation. I guess it wouldn't be a problem if the insert was better quality - it's sort of like a flimsy sponge. The inserts in the Cumulus are better quality so I switched them to the Nimbus and that solved the problem. 3 stars for poor quality control and a poor insert, other than that my feet feel great after a run. I recommend the Cumulus 9s due to the price and quality difference.

Note that everyone has a different foot type and it is important to ensure that you purchase the shoe that matches the shape of your foot and is correct for your running gait. This is a neutral shoe, not for runners that require a motion control or stability shoe. This shoe is designed for those with a neutral gait and efficient stride mechanics. For my foot type this shoe fits well with a good level of cushioning, albeit firm, similar to the NB 1060/1061. No issues with blistering or other problems. However, this shoe is heavy and only suitable for longer training runs as it feels slow and sluggish for long tempo runs at a faster pace. Keep in mind this shoe is a trainer, nothing spectacular, but it does the job if it suits your foot.

While heavy for speedwork, they provide great protection for daily runs and for long runs. Nice wide toebox and no blister problems. 175 lbs, neutral gait I swap these out at 350 miles for inexpensive insurance.

Comments about Men's ASICS Running Shoes | ASICS GEL-Nimbus 9 - Road Runner Sports:

I've run in the Nimbus since they came out. I have Nimbus 1-9. This is the first time I've had blisters. Just like other reviews, I'm getting blisters in my right arch. My feet are pretty tough from combat boots and to get blisters in running shoes is pretty surprising. Anytime I run over 5 miles, I get a blister in my right arch. They were sized at the running store just like my last 15 pairs.

Thu, January 31,2008:
The Nimbus 9 is an improvement over the Nimbus 8. The fit is better with a snug heel and medium width toe box. The shoe rides smooth, with a good even toe to heel flex pattern. But this shoe is not for everyone. It's a neutral shoe for those runners with an efficient stride with normal to high arches. If you're larger or pronate with gait issues, look elsewhere. And if you have a problem with blistering, try a thinner or double layer sock. If you still blister, then there is a problem with fit (friction) due to pressure points or slipping in the shoe. A different size might help, but best to try a different model shoe.

I love the nimbus. I didn't have any problems with blisters. I guess what I like the most is the amount of cushion. Some shoes just get too bouncy (Nike Hayward) and I think this is a good blend of cushion without an overabundance. Sizing is a little different than past shoes it seems, but that shouldn't affect the score it should get. You just get whatever size fits, not the size you're used to getting.

Thu, December 27,2007:
I like the ride a lot, but the sizing is awkward. 10 is slightly small and the 10.5 is bordering on too big,so i use an aftermarket insole to "gap" the difference and go with the 10.5. The nimbus 6 and7 had the best fit IMO. I believe that the 6 is now called the gel platinum. The nimbus 10 looks quite interesting, which will be out in may or june.

I've trained and run a half dozen marathons in the Nimbus 7's and 8's and thought I had found my shoe; not so with the 9's. I'm on my second pair (only 150 miles on the first) and am still having the same problems; not enough cushion (this despite running all my shorts on a Univerity track) and not enough support in the arch, which has let to many 'glitches' in my achilles and calves. I'm not sure why companies have to mess with a good thing. Muzuno did the same thing a few years back, and, according to my supplier, had a lot of shoes come back due to the same problems I've described above. That's when I switched to the Nimbus. Now I'm back in the hunt again.

I have run in Asics for about seven years now, having gone through Nimbus 2-9. I did not like the Nimbus 6 or Nimbus 8 as much as I liked the Nimbus 7 or these. These are one of the better ones for overall comfort. I run about 17 miles a week and I've never had foot problems or blisters of any kind running in any of the Nimbus models. These are the best shoes I've found.

Pretty good shoe in its own right, but they didn't work for me. The heel seemed a tad loose on the insides causing excessive rubbing. I could be pronating more than I realize - but they are sweet looking and did provide plenty of cushon for long runs.

A nice shoe, but I'm having a bit of plantar fasciitis problems with symptoms of a sore heel. Wondering if the arch support isn't as good as my previous shoes (Mizuno Wave Rider 9s) or I need to start stretching before and after my runs. I have had zero problems with blisters.

These shoes are great. Background - ran 30 miles per week, ran first marathon last year. This is my first pair of Asics - previously ran in Brooks Radius 5/6 and New Balance 879. This shoe is lighter and has more cushioning than the Brooks and is lighter than the NB. I have had ZERO problems with blisters with this shoe after having a hot spot with the Brooks shoes. I sized up a 1/2 size as recommended by Road Runner for this shoe and its been great. I have almost 200 miles on this pair of shoes. Highly recommend it to anyone with high to medium arches.

I really wanted to like these - I really love the way they look! Little background - 30miles a week, 5'10", 150lbs. These shoes gave me two great big blisters on my first short run right out of the box. I've been wearing asics for over a year now and never have had a blister before in them. Sized the same as my other shoes - the side portion of the shoes feels very hard and very uncomfortable. As others have referenced - It's not just larger runners who are having blister problems with these.

I've bought 3 pairs of these shoes all in 11.5. My second pair I returned b/c they gave me blisters in the arch as others have complained about. They also felt smaller and seemed different then my first pair. However, the first and third pair have been excellent. I'm currently training for a marathon and have more then doubled my weekly mileage from 20+ to 50+ w/out injury or any foot problems. As for the discrepency in the shoes (1,3 & 2) I'm not sure. I've run in Nimbus shoes for 3 yrs (vii, viii and 9), I'm a 185 lb runner and have liked them all.

Also I don't think that these shoes are for heavy (190lb an up) runners. Heavier people usually put more weight on the hill and also expect to have a softer front. Nimbuses lean forward and "hill" runners will feel uncomfortable without knowing why exactly. As for softer front - it comes at the price of flexibility and as a runner you don't want to lose that. Most of athlete runners are light and with the proper technique cushioning comes from the foot itself. To be honest i tend to think that running is not something heavy people should do - it will put too much stress on the joints in your feet no matter what you wear. I am 165 and i think i am a bit heavy for running. On the whole: the fit of the shoe is very personal for everyone. Don't buy nimbus just because it's nimbus - buy it because your feet like it. If they don't feel right (whether it's your running style or the shape of your feet) -ignore the hype and look for something that works for you. Good luck. Hope i was helpful

Mon, October 22,2007:
For those of you who complained about the blisters here is the inconvenient truth: blisters are an indication that your shoes are too big. And since these make you lean forward (kind of forcing the weight to the front of the foot) it makes the problem even worse If you run a lot even 1\2 size matters. ignore the tips like buy it a little bigger - no it doesn't work that way. My tip: try them at a local retailer to find out what size you are exactly, even if you had nimbus 7-8 and you are buying 9. And the by them wherever you want. (be nice though and buy from retailers too).

Mon, October 22,2007:
i am a 6'-165lb runner. nimbus is obviously made with athletes in mind: flexes where it should, kind of designed for a high arch (most of runners are) and it leans you forward almost forcing you to run properly. And when you do it feels like shoes just get out of your way and you just forget about them and focus on how you run. As i bought these i put my old nimbus 8 on on one foot and the new nimbus 9 on the other and went for a run. Don't lough - it was a great experiment. The 9 was softer and the more you run the more you feel it. Other than that the fit and the feel was about the same.

I've put about 400 miles in on a pair of the 9s and they have given me a lot of trouble. I too have had major blister trouble on my arches and the shoe seems to alter my natural foot motion in a negative way. I'm 5'10", 204lbs and run 28-45 miles a week. I have run on the Asics Nimbus since the beginning (1-9) and had problems with the Nimbus 8's due to lack of cushioning. I gave the newest Nimbus 9's a second chance, but after 18 miles, I have shin splints in my left leg and my right knee is bothering me. I ran on my Nimbus 7's today and feel fine. So, if you weigh 200+, I don't recommend this shoe. I think they lack the cushioning, but will certainly be a great shoe for lighter runners. I'm done with the Nimbus and now have to find a model with more cushioning.

I've been running with the Gel Nimbus for about a year (3 pairs). But they retired the last model of Nimbus...so I purchased this shoe. After 1 week (42 miles), I have quarter-sized blood blisters on the inside palms of both feet (behind the big toe joint). Three other toes also have blisters on the tips, and I'll probably lose a nail. They definitely changed the shape of the shoe and it was for the worse. The Nimbus 9 is a very durable shoe. The only drawback is the forefoot cushioning. Since the transition to SoLyte, the Nimbus 8 and 9 compress quicker than SpEva. Outsole durability is a plus, but doesn't outweigh compression concerns. 5'10" 163 lbs neutral runner that avgs 50 miles/wk at 8 mins/miles.

I ordered the same size and width I have always run in. I sent them back, luckily RRS takes them within 60 days. (thank-you). I do not feel this shoe is an improvement to the 8 and had to take a week off to heal my blisters. My old shoes that have 800+ miles on them feel better than the 9. The cushioning is not as great as the 7. Whatever they did to change this shoe, they made it worse. I do not recommend ordering it off the web unless you have tried it on. What a shoe!!! Just got back from my 4 mile test run and I'm impressed. This is my third pair of Nimbus's and it is still the only shoe for me. The big difference I've seen from the 8 to 9 is the heel. The 9 definately has a much firmer heel retention than the 8 which concerned me at first, but it runs the same. Nice loose feel throughout most of the shoe but without your foot floating around. I run about 30 miles a week, and at 220lbs, I go through a lot of shoes.....and this is the one for me!

Why is it that every time they come up with a great shoe, someone feels the need to update it? Am I wrong in assuming that the leaps and advancements in technology that would make shoes better arent on pace with how quickly models are updated. I dont care if my shoes go out of style, I care that they feel good and i can run 80+ miles a week in them without getting injured. I loved the 8's and started in the nines, but almost immediately suffered from knee pain that persisted until i switched to the nike vomero 2s. i only hope i find another shoe that works before another new model interupts my training.

FINALLY what should have been the upgrade to the 7's we have all been waiting for! Ignore 1 star reviews. The 8's were an insult to Nimbus loyalists. I even had to scour the net for extra 7's to make it until I could see what the 9's would be like. You could have called these Nimbus 9's Asics' last chance to keep me as a Nimbus customer. Well they did a great job going back to what made the 7's so great, and did even better. These Nimbus 9's are what the 8's should have been all along. I run approximately 20 miles/week, and need a supremely cushioned neutral+ shoe for poor knees. I have therefore run in the Nimbus series for the last 4 years. I thought the 7's were perfect, but these 9's are incredible. As mentioned, no break-in time, supreme cushioning, and very durable (still very good after passing 100 miles). Simply put...if you loved the Nimbus 7's and disliked the 8's in comparison, then you will LOVE the 9's. Trust a fellow Nimbus loyalist!

This may be a little premature since I've only put 20 miles on these, but these are the best shoe I've run in to date. Just came off Mizuno Wave Rider 9's and was starting to show signs of plantar fascitis on my right and a tightening below my ankle on the left. 20 miles in these Nimbus9's and both problems are 100% gone. Could be the Rider9's were long overdue for replacement, but the Nimbus is extremely comfortable. Slightly snug with my green superfeet, but no injuries, no blisters - just purely enjoyable running. Great shoe right out of the box. I'm a 50 year old,30 mile/week,neutral runner with arthritic knees. I love running hills, and need excellent shock absorbtion on the downhill legs of my runs. This Asics Gel-Nimbus 9 works for me.

Very possibly the most comfortable running shoe I've ever worn. I'm not a long distance runner - just a 10 mile a weeker but my feet always hurt and I wear orthotics and my arch has a major impact on my lower back and hamstrings........enough complaining.....these Nimbus 9s are aweseome. Took a few runs to break in. The heel padding needed to soften up a bit and after that - heaven........

Quite simply the best version since the 6 in my opinion. No break in time as i felt i coud run a marathon right out the the box.The red colour is killer sweet.

Great cushioned shoe, although to tight in the heels. After a 7 mile run i got a huge blister on my foorfoot.I'm a nuteral runner and never had a problem with the nimbus series until this one.

Much better fit than the 8. Forefoot has a nice smooth, flexible transition; feels lighter and more responsive with good stability. Nice update! Very comfy straight from the box.

After a week my feet were very sore.Im a very neutral runner can run in mostly any neutral shoe,, these shoes made my heels sore.Maybe to much heel vs. no cushion foorfoot.Back to my old ohana racers now all good.Exchanged nimbus for nb 1061,wow wonderfull shoe.

Love that the Nim9 has more padding in the heel cuff; great for the narrow foot. Theres also more cushioning than the 8 but it seems like the footbox has a lil too much room. The 8's felt like they were part of your foot from heel to toe. No break in time as expected..just lace and go! Less than a week of owning them and already have a 30+ miles logged. Next stop AFC 1/2M

Great shoe. I loved the Nimbus 8, but the Nimbus 9 is even better. As someone else has already stated, absolutely no break-in time...I took my new pair out of the box and ran a 13-mile training run with them...GREAT SHOE!

This is definitely the best Nimbus I've had yet. I had the VII & VIII but this shoe needed no break in time, just lace up and go. I've only done two 5 mile runs since I'm recovering from injury. But I feel that strongly about them.

Asics Gel-Nimbus is BACK in the house! They obviously listened to their customers and replaced the Nimbus-Gel 8 with a far better shoe in the new Nimbus Gel-9 . They put back the wider toe box of the Gel 7 and added a bit more cushioning. This is the best Gel-Nimbus yet. Great shoe for any distance. Just did ten miles of hills on them the first day out and no soreness, no injuries, just miles of good running without any concern for my feet. Great stability and a deep enough foot bed to allow for my Wife's orthotics. Yes, we both bought a pair on faith, and we are both glad we did. Lightweight, ingenious design with impeccable fit and finish. Asics is once again the king of all running shoes.
