I am a big guy (220 lb) with strong pronation. These are very comfortable shoes for a low mileage run - not exceeding 5 miles. They gave significant pain releif in my shins and ankles that I was experiencing in my previous Mizuno Renegades. Ditto the comment about wearing out fast. However, the comfort and support was excellent for short runs. They became much less comfortable and supportive after mile 12-13 during marathon training.

These shoes are not worth a hundred dollars you need a new pair every three months. They wore out fast and became hard as rock after they only got a little damp!

175 pounds/flat narrow feet, heel striker. I switched from Asics 2080's to this shoe. They feel heavy and stiff and wear faster then the 2080's. I was experiencing shin and ankle pain after several pairs of 2080's. The first pair of EVO3's seem to take care of my shin pain however they wore out fast maybe 200 miles. Im on my second pair now maybe 100 miles and the shin pain is back. The shoes feel worn. Little cushioning even with cushion insoles. Time to switch shoes again.

I love everything about this shoe. It is a little heavy but what motion control shoe that really works isn't. The only other shoes that I have run in that compare are the Brooks Beast and the previous Gel Evolution, but this one has both of those beat. Now this one is apparently endangered because the Evolution 4 is coming soon. I can only hope that one is as good!

With socks, this is a remarkably comfortable running shoe for a heavy (220lbs.) runner. Good support and motion control. No knee injuries. For non-sock running purposes, like in triathlons, however, this is a really bad shoe. One sockless 10k run resulted in the worst blisters and abrasions I have ever had, particularly on the heels. Evolution II is a better tri shoe. Got any unsold ones?

I am in the miltary and I am just getting over a climbing injury (achilles tendons). My boss turned me on to this shoe. Though it was a bit heavy at first, my leg musclular strength endurance increased dramatically. I increased my 2 mile run time by almost two minutes. The wide toe room took a bit of getting used to. I have been running them for 8 months (56 miles a month) with no durability issues.I recommend using these for training, but when running for time, get a lighter shoe. 240 pds, 70 inches.

I am a new runner, and made the same mistake many have by purchasing some Nike Shox to run in. After 70 or so miles, these shoes were wore out and I had multiple aches and pains. I visited Lukes Locker in Dallas who specialize in running shoes. They suggested either this pair or the Brooks Beast. I chose this pair, because it "looked" better. I have been running 20 to 30 miles a week in these for 4 months now. I am 5 ft 11, started out at 240, 228 now. Upon lacing these shoes up, my aches and pains melted away. They offered the support I needed while being fairly light. The heel maybe a bit firm, I added a Dr. Schols cushion to assist the heel strike. My aches and pains returned after 200 miles. I will try Brooks Beast next, but will certainly try these again at a later date. Man they look cool and feel great too!

I've gone through a hundred motion control shoes over the years. I've tried NB, Saucony, ASICS. A few years ago I switched from NB to ASICS and haven't looked back. Yesterday, right out of the box, I ran in these. They are so light it's amazing. Usually a motion control shoe is like strapping a brick to each foot...but this was like a feather. The cushioning seemed excellent for such a light shoe. As far as running with a MC shoe straight out of the box, this was the best I've ever had, by far!

The shoe works ok.but feels harder than the 2 and more controlling on heel strike. Asics needs to soften the solyte feel, which I understand will occur with the 4th version due ouit in august of 2008. In the meantime, I'll run in my equalons.

Sun, October 21,2007:
I have a totally flat foot and very wide with a narrow heel. The 4E width is perfect for my foot and my heel doesn't slip, although I have to tie them pretty tight. I tried the New Balance 1010 and it was horrible for my feet. A lot of times they put an arch in these types of motion control shoes which are supposed to be for people with very little arch or a totally flat foot. The arch in the shoe creates blisters immediately for people that don't have an arch, that's why shoes like the New Balance 1010 don't work. This Asics model is great but it is lacking in padding. It would get 5 stars if the padding was better. It's a $100 shoe and should have much better padding, but the fact that it's comfortable for those with totally flat wide feet is worth the $100 right there. I've ran in $50 shoes that have the same padding as these shoes but nowhere near the support or comfort. These are good shoes.

Smoothest running mc shoe out there now, with the possible exception of the alchemy. Low heel, flexibility, fit are all there-but the shoe is too firm/jarring for the long haul for bigger runners. Can't wait for the solyte reformulation.

These shoes grow on you. They are firm
and have a lower heel. For a Motion Control shoe for bigger runners they are very light. I start off each run in them feeling they are too firm or need more cushion but end up very happy
with the run and the shoes!!!. I hear from thr Runners World Forum that ASICS will make the solyte midsole softer in the next shoe update. I will buy these again Mot

I am 6 foot 1 about 200 pounds with flat feet, and altough slightly better than the horrible Evolution II, this shoe just does not have enough cushioning. Bring back the original Evolution with Speva! Solyte just doesn't cut it. After my first run with these shoes, I ended up with an injury. Why oh why did ASICS not just leave well enough alone with the original Evolution? I still have to hunt for these on the net, they were the best shoe I've ever used.

Thu, June 14,2007:
Without extra insoles the cushioning feels a bit too firm for my liking (more so than the evolution 2's). With the insoles it adds just the right amount of cush without sacrificing on the MC characteristic of the shoe. The insoles actually increase the effectiveness of the MC and stability of the shoe. I give this shoe a 4 without the insoles, 5 with them.

The cushioning feels firm and responsive (moreso than the Evo 2), plenty of stability while definatly having a fast feel for an MC shoe. Great update!
