This shoe is awesome. It holds up well and they are really comfortable to walk around in. This is the only pair of shoe that i have bought. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!

I wanted to add a review for this shoe as a runner who is a little bigger than other reviewers. At 6'3" 175lbs this shoe still provides plenty of cushioning and support for tempo runs and races. I have raced distances up to a half marathon in it and it is an excellent shoe.

I'm 5 foot 8, about 105 lbs and run a good amount (60-70/week). I moved from these from the Empire 2 and I am sure I made the right choice. I use them for everyday training, and they've held up great. Good support, though I moved over my SuperFeet Green from my previous trainers. Only sizing note would be that I normally wear an 8.5 but these are a 9. Huge 5/5.

Like some said. these shoes dont need breaking in. lightest trainer ive ever put on but not to light. very cushy. I normally wear 9.5 but got these in 10.5 good shoes though

still does not match the feel of the "old" ds trainer-hard outer sole on heel makes this a stiff and noisy addition for asic. they cant leave well enough alone. try the saucony tangent.

The shoe fits like none I have tried before. I'm 6' 155Lb so I don't necessarily require a lot of cushion. The feature I like best about this shoe is the lacing style. This shoe really hugs my foot instead of how most shoes will constrict. I'd recommend buying this shoe if you do some road races..maybe not so much for long distance training since it's not really made to be a high-mileage shoe. Very light. Very Comfortable

Great Shoe! Light, flexible, responsive, with good cushioning and a touch of stability. I normally don't write reviews, but these guys are well worth the time and deserving of the praise. I'm on my second pair - took them out of the box new this morning for 12 miles. Super comfy...
I've been fine w/ 1/2 size up, but I know some others recommend a full size. Either way, definitely go larger than what you might normally wear for Asics. I find the cushioning to be more than adequate. I'm about 6' 150lbs, normal arch, pretty neutral gait, and mid-foot lander. The longest training run I ran in my previous pair was 17mi and they were great. My only small complaint is that the rubber under the ball of the foot seemed to wear out quite a bit faster than other more clunky Asics stability shoes such as the 1100 or 2100 series, but they're a ton lighter than both and were still good for the expected 300 miles.

I just started "breaking in" the 13's for a fall marathon last week and found that there is not much breaking in to do. These shoes feel great right out of the box. They are definitely more flexible in the midsole and the forefoot has just the right amount of padding. I would have liked to have given the shoe a perfect five but I reserve that for the way that Asics made the DS Trainer back in '95 and '96. That model was a perfect five and Asics has not been able to duplicate that shoe to date. I would say though that the DS Trainer 13 is the closest Asics has come to that model since then.

This is a vast improvement upon the ds-trainer 12. Where the 12's were hard and somewhat clunky the 13's are smooth with just the right amount of cushioning. Feels like the new lacing system makes for a snugger fit which I appreciate since I have narrower feet. Great shoe for tempo or all around training for lighter runners.

I concur with all who have said size up a full size from your street shoe size (9.5 to 10.5). This shoe runs a bit short in length. I replaced the thin insole with a RRS Cush Runner3 insole and now it is the right combo of light stability and forefoot cushion. I run 50+ miles per week and use these as uptempo trainers as well as long runs. The longest run in these has been 15 mi. It is hard not to run fast in these. To the reviewer who said there was no heel left after 200 miles, I suggest learning how to be a forefoot striker, which is the type of runner this shoe is intended for. Your knees and shins will thank you for getting off your heels. If you insist on heel striking, try a more suitable shoe for that purpose, like the Kayano or 2130. No performance shoes are designed with big bulky heels for a reason. This is one of my top two shoes of all time (25+ years of running) and the best road racer w/stability.

This shoe has a very secure fit and locks the heel down well if you use the extra eyelet. It also has smoother transitions, and better cushioning than the DS 12 or any other asics shoe I've tried. I ran a great tempo in them strait out of the box.

Great update of a legendary shoe. The new so-lyte isn't as stiff and clunky as the previous model and the shoe provides a smooth transition through the foot strike.
Excellent shoe if you're looking for a light and fast trainer with the stability for longer runs as well.

Been running since 14 yrs old, 50 yrs old now. Sales person talked me into ASICS, former Adidas fan. Glad he did, bought it wide fit, I wear orthodic arch. Not the lightest shoe, am rating it on support, cushion, and how my joints, legs feel after running on concrete and ashalt. (4-5mi runs) cannot speak about marathons.

I have always enjoyed running in the DS Trainer line up (DS X was a good shoe), but was very disappointed with the DS XIII. I would no longer call this a performance trainer. The shoe is bulky, wide, soft and does not ride like a performance shoe (I am tall, but have a small frame so I like less shoe).

Excellent update (and recovery from the DS-12) for the DS line. But order ONE FULL SIZE up. The RR print catalogs show a full size up for this shoe, though the website does not show this as 06/02/08.
I really dig the lacing system as it fits the natural architecture of the foot in a very intuitive way. This shoe is a terrific example of ASICS engineering, simply outstanding!

I feel let down. I bought this because I trusted the DS trainer but the wierd lacing system causes so much irritation when I flex the shoe that it is unwearable. I don't know who's good idea that was but i have a nice red stain on mine due to the pint of blood I lost during my run. Why o why did you mess with this shoe?

Like any DS Trainer, this is a great shoe. But BEWARE...order a full size larger. I have been a DS wearer since version 6 and have always ordered 1/2 size up. version 13 needs a full 1 size.

I would say that Asics has hit a grand slam with this shoe, at least for me. I have not run this comfortably in a new shoe since I can't remember when. I am enjoying my daily running once again. I enjoyed my previous Trainers, but these are much more comfortable with my feet than any that I can remember for a very long time.

by far the fastest training shoe i've owned, and these shoes can also be great race shoe. I owned the ds trainer 11 (or was it 10??), as well as the gel 2120, and the ride is noticeably smoother than either of those shoes. I'm also a big fan of the look of the shoe :)
However, I developed some nerve irritation from running on concrete too much during my practices, and now i think i have a stress fracture in my foot. That said, i think the stress fracture is due to way too many miles at a very fast pace.
Anyways, i would encourage everyone to buy this shoe if they are looking for an extremely light and fast trainer.

Loving these shoes! Great fit, fast ride and just a touch of arch support. I really like how quiet they are on the road as well. Lacing system works well, new solyte is much, much softer. These feel very light and cool. Currently have about 75 miles on them, sole wear is very minimal and I have been pounding them. Ordered half size up and they are snug but I like them like that.

Ordered my first pair a half size larger than my usual size- they were just a bit small- ordered a full size larger and they fit great. I have about 250 miles on them so far and LOVE them. I am ordering my second pair so they are ready for summer. Good job RRS with your return/exchange process- flawless.

I have always run in Adidas but I wanted a lighter shoe to do some speedwork in. This shoe feels so low to the ground that your feet really take a pounding. I had to send them back because I developed achilles pain from the difficult toe-off I found these shoes to have.

This shoes performs better than the past 3 DS Trainers. Perfect for those shorter and faster runs. I was not a big fan of their appearance at first, but after running in them I completely got over that. Putting white laces in them improved their look as well.

After the DST 12’s shortcomings, I was eagerly anticipating 2008 releases from other manufacturers in the same category of shoes, i.e., Zoom Elite 4, Elxir 3, etc., and after trying all of them, I’m pleased to say the DST 13 lives up to my expectations with a better ride and improved fit. No longer interested in other brands’ offerings as none compare to the new and improved DST 13. Well done!

Better iterative update than the 12. I miss the colors of the 12, however. Wish the UK Blue/ White were released in the US. Can easily get past the color now that the ride of 2nd generation Solyte has been tuned. Upper fit is better IMO than the 12 as well. Well done.

I'l be honest, I have never used a performance trainer before but I just received these and ran a quick 2 miles to try them out. I am impressed. Very light, fast, just enough stability and cushioning. It didn;t even feel like I was wearing anything on my feet they are so light. Id give them 4.5 stars but that's not an option. The lacing is awesome too. very form fitting all around.
