Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar 3 Running Shoe:

This shoe is an excellent shoe. I am 5'11" and 150 lbs and it is very cushioned for me, yet lightweight. I ran 22 miles yesterday in them and feel like they held up very well. I am definetely going to run my next marathon in these. And, since they are on sale, I am going to buy another pair for safe keeping. These are the best running shoes I have had!

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar 3 Running Shoe:

Asics redeems itself. Recent efforts (Cumulus 9, Landreth 3) were worse than disappointing. But this is a great shoe. Light and fast with excellent cushioning up front (Speva forever!). Perfect for tempo runs and longer races (I'd go lighter for 10k or less). I like the color too.

This is the best shoe have ever had it extremely light weight and yet had all the cushioning that i need. i use this as a racing shoe and an an everyday trainer at school and it ticks all the boxes. i use orthotics and with them it is still very light. also i have had these shoes for a year and they are still in reasonable condition after all the pain that i have put them through. a great shoe pity they don't make them anymore.

this is a great shoe i thought it would not be very durable but i have had them for a year and they are still in one piece i would recommend them for someone who likes a lot of running and that has an orthodic because they are lite even with the orthodic. as i am 14 years old i wear them at school and they are very good for an everyday shoe.

This has been a great training/racing shoe. I'm 5'4", 129# and I have put 315 miles on them with plenty of miles left in them. I'm a midfoot striker; therefore, very little wear on the heels. I don't worry much about cushioning because I'm a very light foot striker.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar 3 Running Shoe:

SpEVA is superior to SoLyte by way of cushioning and responsiveness. Thus, these are better than the 4th edition. The color could be a little more appealing. Overall, the only way that these could be better would be to transform them into the original speedstars. ASICS, bring back the originals as classics. I personally will load up on them.

I am a 6' 190lb runner. I have used the asics 2100 series for years also the foundation in the motion control. I purchased these to try a light pair of running shoes. I have been very pleased with these shoes. I normaly only get about 200 miles out of a pair of shoes but these have lasted me about 350 with still a little life left in them. If you are a larger frame runner don't let the light weight design of this shoe scare you off. Give then a try, you will be glad you did

I've ran in Mizuno Wave, a variety of Nike, a variety of Addidas, and Asics. These are comparable with the top light weight trainers of any brand. I've averaged between 35-50 miles per week in these shoes and they have held up well (despite the retailer telling me they were only designed for 200-250 miles). I am on my 3rd pair for the year and have already pre-ordered the Speedstar 4's through Roadrunner. These shoes will hold up for moderately heavy training and are a competent distance race shoe (I've ran 3 marathons in them this year). I'd recommend them for any neutral runner looking for a light weight shoe with some cushioning.

I received them a day before my 5mile run on Thanks Giving day, I didn't have time to break them in so I ran in them and glad I did. The shoes were light and had good cushion. Highly recommended for the price and comfort. can't wait to order a new pair.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Speedstar 3 Running Shoe:

Since I got them several months ago, I've determined that Speedstar 3 is my favorite shoes of all time. Currently I rotate this with Asics Hyperspeed 3 (lighter than Speedstar, but not as cushioned nor comfortable), Asics 2140 (great every day trainer and for trails) and Brooks Glycerine (bit clunky - use them on rainy days!), and Asics Gel Cumulus 10 (loved them initially, but short term fling). I train and run races with the Speedstar 3, hitting PR's in 4 miler and 10K. I am planning to run a half and a full marathon in these soon. They are very light on the feet, but surprisingly cushioned. I am 5'9" and 145#, running about 32 - 35 miles per week, so I can't vouch for bigger runners, but for a lighter runner, these shoes are amazing. I plan to have 2 pairs at my disposal at all times.

Yep... They wear out in a couple of hundred miles. But they're lightweight trainers. What is key is that they are amazingly comfortable, particularly for <10k runs, but I haven't tried them on a long run yet. It really is amazing how much difference 4 oz make, though. My other shoes are Nimbus 10, and they're great, but the Speedstars feel like I'm wearing nothing at all. Great shoe. I hope ASICS keep the colour obnixious.

I agree with jj. I like these shoes, but I loathe their colors. Distance running is, for the most part, a sport in which most of its participants tend to be introverted and tend to shy away from the spotlight. These shoes are begging to be seen with their over-the-top colors, and as such, I doubt few distance runners, not wanting to be made a spectacle of, would be willing to wear them. About the only time I'd be seen in shoes with these colors would be during early Sunday morning runs, at about 530 AM. Why can't they be made in plain gray, like the old NBs used to be?

I love this shoe. It is leightweight and fits my feet snugly but comfortably.

I have owned several pairs of each version of the speedstar, and the 3 certainly doesn't dissapoint. They're lightweight and responsive, and so far have given me no problems. As the last reviewer said, be sure you're getting these for the right reasons. Don't expect a shoe that's going to last 600 miles, that's not what they're made for.

Anybody who subtracts a star for "lack of durability" ought to reevaulate why they bought this shoe in the first place. These are performance neutral trainers designed for compact, efficient runners. They are hands down the best shoe I have ever run in (5'7", 125-130lbs). Cushioning breaks down, so if you read a review that says the cushioning "starts" to break down after 100-200 miles, really think about it. These are light shoes, they're not going to last for 500 miles.

I had previously run in,and loved the Landreth I and II. Then Ascic went and changed the shoe and the III was not as cushioned and as soft a ride as its predecessors. The Speedstar3 is a welcome alternative and rides comparably to the earlier versions of the Landreth- and is lighter to boot!

I bought these and my second run in them was 23 miles. The past 5 years I've trained and ran marathons in the Asics Cumulus. This year being a little disappointed in the Cumulus update I decided to give these a try. They're much lighter and the cushioning feels like it'll just fine for 26.2. I tip the scale at around 160 and these shoes are my new favorite.

Well, I respectfully disagree with some of the other reviews. I prefer the 2 - This Speedstar 3 is a bit too much shoe. With the 2 I felt the road more and it felt a lot lighter. The 3 is not as "quick" as the 2. Hey, but that's me...I still miss the Epirus - By the way, I ran marathons in the 2 and they were wonderful - seeing and feeling that the 3 is more cushioned it should handle a marathon just fine!

tremendous shoe; lighter than trainers and ideal for quick tempo runs and short races; excellent fit; they really do make you want to run fast!

Great Shoe! Nice update over the 2's the outsole is now made entirely with Asics' AHAR high abrasive rubber so they are much more durable than the plastic outsole of the 2's. I love the color and the ride, you just want to go fast in these shoes.

Great update to the Speed star 2. Less of a racing flat feel and more of a trainer feel. Great for all races from 5k-marathon. One tid bit they lacing doesn't work to well straight laced, so stick to traditional cross lacing.

Best pair of shoes I've ever owned. I can wear them on all training runs and speed runs. I use them as racing flats on all distances from 5k up to 50 miles. I'm glad they're back in yellow.

The best trainer shoes for 2008! It's lightweight, quick, responsive, and provides exceptional support. This shoe could definitley hold out for more than a half marathon; a must have. The forefoot area is roomy but it allows for maximum ventilation; a sure plus since its summer time. Aestheticaly; this shoe have very smooth lines that flow from the toebox to the heel, looks very good in motion, and the color is eye-catching. I highly recommend this shoe, I've already put a lot of miles in these shoes and still feels much the same as I first put them on. Have a fun and safe run.

Used to running with stability shoes (Axiom 2) and was recommended these by a local run guru Byron in Miami for the marathon 30 days PRIOR! My favorite shoes so far, didn't think I could ever run on such light shoes, reconsidering what foot type I am. This is the shoe where I buy two pairs at next purchase.

This is a well-engineered shoe. It is lightweight and responsive, and the top ventilates the foot well. The toebox is roomy, but the shoe maintains sleek lines. The gold/black colors are the best yet. I do not agree with an earlier reviewers comment that this should not be used for anything longer than a half-marathon. Last weekend I ran a marathon (in the CDA Ironman) with plenty of comfort all the way.

very light weight and fast. I rotate this shoe with my asics gel nimbus for the shorter training runs. Don't run more than a half marathon with these shoes.
