would have to say that this is the best shoe of all time. the bad reviews must come from 20mi/weeker's... if that. you don't even need to tie the laces, just put the feet in and go. i ran for years in the kayanos, but a fortuitous run-in w/ these shoes and my running improved dramatically... close to running in bare feet but w/ all of the niceties of a kick-#!@ asics. your belief in this review of course is based on the assumption that you view asics as the best and only company that makes a competent running shoe for humans, not waffle irons.

After 80 miles of tweaking, these went back into the box. They gave me a hot-spot sensation on the bottom of my right foot and made the outside of my calf feel like I had been stung by a bee! It must be a defect with this pair because this is my first bad experience with Asics

Its a stiff shoe. It pushes me into a heavier heel strike and flat take off. It has no 'sweet'-spot (1-2 inches forward of the mid section) responsiveness. Takes too much work to run in these shoes.

the DS-T's are not a light performance shoe these days. The advertised weight is 10.2oz (for size 9 I guess), but this won't fit someone with a size 9 foot. A DS-T size 11 fits my size 10 foot, and this weighs 11.5oz, same as my Nike Air Spans. By contrast Mizuno Sub-3's have similar cushioning and weigh 7oz. I know it's not all about weight, but I think these are now made for the mass market, which is probably mid-pack runners.

The DS trainers have slowly become bigger, slower, and fatter. I feel all asics have gone this way, much like mid-sized american cars. Every year they make the model bigger and heavier. After running in DS's for 4 years, they actually feel 1/2 size too big- mainly due to the fact the toe box has become so wide. It feels like they added a ton of extra material around the upper, and widened out the entire sole from front to back. They are indeed light, but by no means quick. Even the gel-speed star's are starting to feel this way.

Great shoe for training and competing. Been using this shoe for my last 4 marathons and they work great, have enough cushioning and support for light pronator/neutral (normal arch). Also, the 10.2oz is a great weight for a long distance shoe.

Love this shoe! One of the best I have ran in! I am a neutral light weight runner and it works great for me.

Great Shoe 10 or 12th pair of Asics. I wouuld highly recomend getting fitted in store with there equiptment. I had been purchasing on line for years but finally stopped in and got fitted and the correct inserts and what a difference it made. The shoes were always comfortable to run in but I had heel pain the next day. Once tested and fitted with the proper inserts it completly dissapeared. Shoes are noce and light have run about 12 miles in the first 3 days right out of the box they have been great. No soreness hot spots or blisters. Oh amd lastly great pricing!!!!!!!!!

Ran DS trainers for a long time. The last model was a dud but this shoe is great. Comfortable and well cushioned.

I started buying the DS Trainers when they first came out and it's been the only running shoe I've bought since. I've trained for 5k's, 10k's, half's and full marathon's in these shoes and they work great for each style of running and racing. The only way you'll catch me in something other than these is if they stop making them. They're super light, extremely durable and last forever.

I'm 6'2" and 172lbs neutral runner. I've been on a few six mile runs, an 8.5miler, and some shorter tempo runs (6min/mile) with these shoes and am very happy. Light shoes with a good amount of cushioning without feeling too soft. Great all around trainer and race day shoe.

I've been running in these for about 6 years, ever since they stopped making the Gel Lites. I've probably been through 15 pairs so far. I'm 182 pounds and I can get 350-400 miles out of a pair. I've found them to be very light yet strong -- despite a lot of trail miles, they never fall apart or rip, unlike other light shoes on trails. Only downside is that they don't give a lot of support on trails, but what do you expect? On roads and treadmills, they are fantastic.

I'm 6' 215 and have been running (training and races) in the 2140. I picked these up last week the day before a 10k and PR'ed. It was a very nice ride right out of the box. I don't think I will train in these but for me, this is a great racing shoe. Recommended!!!

DS is for performance runners not mall walkers. Steve should stick with the KT26! Good for mowing the lawns and BBQs.

Nice, flexible and light, although a little narrow. After a short break-in period, I ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon with no problems. I recommend this shoe!

5'11", 174pds, male - Avg 25-30 mpw, U used to run in the DS Trainers up until last year. This new DS Trainer is too soft and clunky(in my opinion) as compared to previous models. I have run in the DS 14 for about a month and do not like it. I have been running in the Saucony Tangent and that is a better shoe. If you are looking for a Performance/STABILITY trainer, then I would not recommned the DS Trainer.

I have run in the DS Trainer 12 and 13s. I liked them both, but not like the 14s! This shoe is great. Believe me. I try out 10+ shoes per year and this shoe is GREAT! Nice cushioning system and great support for a mild pronator.

Sun, January 25,2009:
I gave it four stars because I've only run in them once, a 6 mile run, but they're soft right out of the box and fit true to size again. I liked the DS12s, but they were not made in the size I needed (13.5). I then went to the Gel Speedstars, but they did not have enough support/cushion for me. These shoes feel soft, responsive, and smooth.

Excellent update. Shoe fits true to size again and is much softer than the previous versions that had Solyte. Much more flexible also.
