why, WHY can't they just keep some shoes

5

"They" should let consumers vote on just a few shoes that should never be endangered. This should be one of them. Because RRS only has 2 sizes left, I have just ordered 5 pairs elsewhere. I've tried several pairs of the 12s and my knee hurts. Went back to my beat up 11s and knee's fine, as it had been for the years I enjoyed the 11's with my custom orthotics.

Best Asics I have used

5

I ran in the cumulus forever, until a couple of years ago (after knee surgery) when I switched to the Nimbus for better cushioning. I am on my 2nd pair of 11s (one to train in, one for races-triathlons). I like the 11 much better then the 10 (I think was black and silver, or was it the 9, they wore out way fast!!!)I am 6' 195 and wear custom orthotics for a very low arch, the 11s works great with my orthotics and have lasted pretty well. I bought these in June 09 and run 2-3X per week about 2-4 miles each run mostly on concrete-asphalt, would think they have around 200+ miles on them(plus I wear them as a casual shoe as well around town) and my knees and ankles are starting to ache so they are about done. Time for a new pair!!! GREAT SHOE, just hope they don't ruin it with the new version!!!

Best Neutral+ Shoe

5

I have been running in the Nimbus since I tried numerous shoes after I started running 7 years ago. I am 5'8" and 235 and these shoes are better than any other shoe I have tried. After a run I do not have any knee or foot pain even on runs of 8 miles at my weight. The Nimbus has enough cushioning for large runners and those logging a lot of miles. If you are in the market for a neutral+ shoe then you will not regret trying these. The only problem I have had is that when Asics began offering different widths in the Nimbus I had to switch to a 2E despite wearing a standard width in previous models so you may need to try a 2E if the toe box feels too snug.

Pure bliss!

5

I've been a devoted fan of this shoe since the Nimbus 7 and the 11's are, by far, one of my favorites. The toe box is very ample and the heels are deep and slightly more narrow than other shoes I've run in which I think is part of this shoe's appeal - a roomy, cushy, "hug" for my feet which have high arches and are prone to stress fractures and plantar fascitis. I ran an ultra 50K trail run in these last week and they were a dream - both on the pavement and off. I've already ordered the 12's to start breaking in for my next marathon in 4 weeks - but I also ordered a couple more 11's to add to my stash!

Great Shoe Allows You 2 Focus on Running

5

Having been an avid runner 20 years ago, and career focused since, I am now training for my first marathon. Twenty years ago, I liked Asics but discovered they were too narrow and causing me shin splints. Today, I am on my third pair of Asics Nimbus 11 after logging 700+ miles. When you can focus on running itself and the improvements you make, and not worry about the shoes negatively affecting your performance, you've found the right shoe. I bought a fourth pair for the marathon itself.

Difference in fit by shoe color??

4

Did anyone notice a difference in fit from the blue to the purple? I have worn numerous pairs of Nimbus shoes and loved them all (except the 10's). With the 11, I ran through 2 pairs of the blue, including 2 half marathons and about 20 milew per week aside from half training with no problem. However, when I swtiched to the purple shoe, I started blistering on the side of each foot, right below my big toe whenever I run more than 4 miles. Took the first pair of purples back for a new one and the same thing happened.

A good product became a great product

4

I owned 5 pairs of the Nimbus 10's over the past 2-3 years on my way to Boston '09, and I had no major complaints (they may have worn out faster than I'd like, ~300 miles). I've run in this shoe for 2 months now and I feel they are a nice improvement on an already good shoe. I specifically like the toe box feeling more open with the lacing not extending as far. I hope the cushioning will make it to 350-400, but if not, it's still been a great shoe for me.

Made me a believer

5

I was having problems with my feet when trying to do cardio, and had given up altogether. Heard about Road Runner Sports and figured "why not?" Did their online foot exam to determine my foot styles and purchased these right away. When I got them, and started using them, I could tell right away the difference. For the first time, I felt like my feet were provided appropriate support, and it doesn't hurt to run anymore.

5

I was 193 lbs (dropped 10 lbs since buying the shoes and running more), have high arches and roll outward (underpronate)severely. I have always had shin splints and tightness/soreness in my lower calf area. I have traditionally been a New Balance user and then decided to try something different because various insoles or orthotics weren't helping the pain go away. I bought the Nimbus 11's, coupled with SofSol insoles and love them. Had some hot spots and some foot numbness at first (not sure if that wasn't because of my body mechanics). I found new adidas socks that work great and all is well in my runs. I don't do long runs but, I try to run as often as possible. I have become a convert to Asics shoes. I am a freight train when I run (not graceful at all) and would highly recommend for heavier runners that need a lot of cushion.

A New Asics Fan

5

As a relatively new distance runner, I was having trouble finding the right shoe that didn't leave me with knee and foot pain. Nimbus 11 were exactly what I was looking for. I trained for and ran a marathon, 2 half marathons as well as multiple shorter races with this shoe with no problems. They're still going strong! I wear a full size larger and added arch support insoles.

Great shoe. Easy Transaction

5

I am an underpronator and these are the best shoes I have found to run in. I will say that at first I didnt like the 11,s as well as my Nimbus 10's because the toe box is a little wider but now that I have gotten use to that they are perfect. I run/jog on concrete and these really help me from getting shin splints. I did put true to size but like all Asics I order 1/2 size bigger than other running shoes.

Asic's, My Preffered Brand of Shoe

4

On my 4th pair of Nimbus, and they are well cushioned for a heavier runner such as myself (200+ lbs.) who runs on average 5 days a week. In addition, I wear these while weight lifting just before an indoor run so my shoes experience exagerated degrees of stress and they hold up well. They appear to have the same superior durability that my previous Nimbus had. They don't wear as quickly as other brands I have tried. Sizing and Fit feels appropriate.

Great shoe but variation in fit

3

I have been using this shoes for three years- buying a pair about every 6 months. I was extremely pleased with the shoe and it has been the only one that fits comfortable on my wide foot. However, this last time I ordered the Gel Nimbus 11- it fits completely different. I was replacing the exact same shoe. I can only think that there must be some difference in the manufactoring. I returned it and bought another pair of Nimbus 11 and have had no troubles with the new one.

Great for heavy runners

4

A shoe for the fat kids! I'm 6'1", 210 lbs, so I need extra cushioning for treadmill running. Since using these, persistent back and knee pain have gone away. I find myself actually working out MORE because these shoes make it easier. My only issue with them is that the toe area seems disproportionately wide compared to the middle. And the insoles are a bit flimsy.

nimbus. my go-to shoe for training runs

4

I own two pair because i use them so much- these are great cushioned road shoes. They are the only shoes that have never given me a blister during faster runs. I use them for all my 4-6 mi. road runs and have done a good bit of trails in them, but they are too soft in the forefoot for most off-road applications. I love these shoes!

Love Em!

5

I'm a runner and am not quite a full neutral, need a little support. I wear these with the green superfeet and they are perfect! I've always loved the cushion with the nimbus, but the top of the shoe always hurt my high instep and I was constantly re-lacing so they'd fit. However, the new lacing system has made it so they fit my feet perfectly and I can keep the laces as is! I feel like these were made to fit my feet! Perfect, please don't change them!

Great shoes

5

Really like these ASICS. Moved from a motion control shoe to a neutral shoe for more cushioning to help recover from planter fascia issues. This shoe is very comfortable and the addition of RRS Support Plus insoles give the necessary arch support I need. As always, ASICS shoes seem to last me the longest. I had plenty of miles on my first pair of these so I decided to buy two more pairs.

Great shoes!

5

This is my third pair of this model. I love how they feel and support my feet. I am 60 years old so I need a little more cushioning and these shoes really fill the bill. I mostly run on concrete and with theses shoes I hardly feel the pounding. They are a little heavy so if you are looking for a light weight training shoe these are probably not for you.

Best Nimbus Version Yet! Perfect!

5

6'0", 185lbs, 20-30miles/week Closest to the 7's due to the open toebox. A plush ride with supreme cushioning once again. I agree with some who say there is just the tiniest bit of stability in these 11's compared to prior versions, which I LOVE. Best version overall after running in Nimbus since the 7's. Just about perfection. Great job Asics!

Best Shoe by a Mile

5

Absolutely the best shoe I have run in - and you can't beat Road Runner Sports for supplying them - from their overall great prices to the VIP program discounts. I have been running in this shoe for years[...] Cushioning, fit, comfort can't be beat. My son now runs in the same style - and he is putting 60 mile weeks in.

solid version of this solid shoe

4

I have run on several generations of Nimbus. All in all, it is probably the most comfortable model I have run in (15+ years on the roads and trails). I disliked the narrower toe box of the Nimbus 10 but enjoyed the more aggressive ride. The Nimbus 11 returns to the wider fit of the Nimbus 9 with the feel of the 9. So far, a few weeks in, a solid edition of this model.

Quality Shoe

4

This is a good shoe but I have developed shin splints which I never have before with this shoe. All around it is a good shoe. It fits well, it has good cushion and it appears to be durable so far. I have had them for three months and there is no real signs of wear yet.

I do a variety of cross-training/Crossfit activities, plus sports and running. These shoes are excellent: supportive, cushioned, durable, and good looking. Hard to beat. The fit comments/gripes are very minor and personal preference. Take it w/a grain of salt. These shoes are awesome.

Just a great running shoe!

5

I have been running six days a week since 1981.I have tried many, many types and makes of running shoes over the years. None have matched the comfort, cushion and stability of the ASICS Gel-Nimbus shoe. This shoe ia a real winner, especially for us larger runners!

Extremely Comfortable Shoe!

4

I really love the 11's. I must admit that I am a heavy over-pronator but these combined with my custom orthotics provide a very stable, comfortable shoe. At the time I am suffering with Plantar Fasciitis and these are my go to shoe for maximum comfort. Great cushioning, enough stability to reinforce my orthotics, and nice looking at that.

I have a high arch, wide front of foot, narrow heel, high instep and over pronate. Finding shoes has been a nightmare! This shoe fits, offers solid support and comfort! I run 15+ miles a week and this shoe has stood up to wet surfaces, mud, and more without any change in comfort!

Shoe feels great

4

Bought this shoe for mid distance training and some mild speed work. Since I never use the same shoes twice in a week, I have only worn them a few times thus far. Over time, my rating might go up (or down) depending on durability and other factors, but for now they seem like a great pair of shores for a great RR price.

Best Running Shoes I have ever owned

5

I run about three to four times a week for about five to seven miles. I honestly feel like I am not wearing any shoes when running with these. They are light, breathable, and fit my feet like a glove. This is the first time I have left Nike to try another brand and I am very happy with my decision.

This is my favorite neutral running shoe. I've run half marathons in these, and they've been great. I've been wearing the Nimbus for years, and Numbus 11 has been my favorite model. I'll give the 12 a shot after I can't find the 11 anymore. Great shoe!

I use the shoe for mostly asphalt running and some trail work, even some rocky hiking. Traction is good. I have worn the GEL-Nimbus for years and the "11" is as good as they have been. They feel very stable with good cushioning for a big guy like me.

Make sure you use the Shoe-Dog feature on this site to make sure you are actually in the neutral category or you will be hurting after about 100 miles. If you are serious about running you should get Superfeet or some other athletic insole because the ones that come with the shoe are horrible.

I've always been an Asics wearer dating back to the early 90's. However, I've never been a serious runner until this year. This shoe is great for a neutral runner with a heavy heal strike. Cushioning is excellent. I switched out of this shoe to a Nike Zoom Triax 12 and, after three road races (2 5k's and one half marathon), came "running" back to the Nimbus 11. Only complaint is that they are worn out after 300+ miles. Having said that, I would gladly pay road runner $105.00 this week for another pair. If you need a wide toe box, good cushioning, and light on your feet, this is a great shoe, no doubt. Seriously, I am a salesperson worse nightmare. This shoe is solid.

I'm changing my July 3rd review (#38) from five stars to 4. Asics, you have the cushioning right, Finally. 170, 5' 11 running 50 miles a week, I got these after putting 450 miles into a pair of 2140's and running a 3:25 marathon in them as well. I was excited to have kayano level gel in a lighter shoe... Instead I got a big blister on my back right heel, one under my left foot big toe, experienced subtle knee pain and more discomfort in my calves than ever before. I hate these shoes. HOWEVER, i do mildy overpronate and these are meant for neutral runners so maybe that was the bane of my problem more than the shoes. Either way I crawled back to my 2140's and have had no more issues at all. Back to BQ training.

I have to admit these are good shoes. Seem to be a cross between 9 and 10 version. 9 had good stability but not enough flex.. 10 had to much flex and not enough stability .. Version 11 seems to have good side to side stability.. when i'm looking over my shoulder i don't have to worry about rolling my foot. I used to use the GT models for years then switched to when a sales person told i should be using them.. for my high arches..

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I run with the Nimbus 10's and LOVE them. They've been great for training, and running races. So I buy these new and "improved" shoes and they are terrible, my legs and feet ached for two days after a 6 miler with them. Needless to say, today I returned them to RRS and I guess I'll have to stock up on the 10s.

Every new release since the 7 I have prayed that asics will fix the nimbus, and I am once again disappointed. dont get me wrong, the cushioning is the best there is. however. ventilation and weight continue to be a massive problem. the addition of more memory foam feels nice in the store and for the first few miles, but you feel the weight and heat during high intensity workouts in a big way. the nimbus needs to go on a diet and learn how to breathe to make it worth the price tag.

Great shoe. I switched to this shoe after trying the NB 1063 and it is perfect for this midfoot striker. The fit is much better for me than the 10 as I have a wide forefoot and narrow heel. The cushioning is softer than the 10 but still firm enough to provide some good stability in a neutral plus shoe. I had knee surgery a few months ago and I am slowly getting back into running and my legs felt great after the first run in these shoes.

out of the box onto my feet. very comfortable, no chaffing, no blisters, comfortable, no break-in required. 4 miles first time out. one thing though, inserts are cheap, cheap, cheap, save yourself time and just go ahead and get some insoles with your order.

I have been running for about 31 years, 25 of those as a Marine. I weight about 187 pounds, and I had a heck of a time finding a running shoe that was neutral/cushioned and didn't wear out in 60 days. I tried shoes from Nike, Brooks, New Balance, Reebok, Adidas, and other Asics shoes. I finally tried the Gel Nimbus in its first generation. I was sold. It is a great running shoe. I am pretty hard on running shoes, even after giving up triathlons, but the Gel Nimbus has never let me down. Since the first generation, it is the only shoe I run. If you are a heavy runner (180+ pounds) that doesn't pronate or supinate extremely, you would be hard pressed to find a better running shoe. If you have a neutral gate, this is definitely a great running shoe for you.

Just switched to these from Kayano and have nothing but good things to say. Light, cool, and very cushy, especially going downslope...very plush. *I did add a Smartfeet insole to give it more stability for pronation and wouldn't run without them on the road.

I am 6'3, 220. I pronate more on the left than right. Tried the Kayano 15, then tried these. Amazing difference. There is just the right amount of support for my level of pronation and great cushioning for my weight. Love them. Absolutely.

I have only run a few times in these, but I like them a lot. Good cushioning, although on the soft side, with a very smooth ride. Initially I did not like the wider forefoot either, but I started using a slightly thicker sock and now I really like the fit. 6'2", 185 lbs.

I was at 210lb and getting knee pain and shin splints from my Mizuno Riders, a shoe for under 180lb people. I supinate and needed more cushion so I went with the Nimbus-11. The cushion is great, no more knee pain. The upper, not so great. Don't like the lacing system and the toe box is too wide for me as my foot slides around. Not comfortable for me so I will be looking for another shoe soon, maybe the NB 1063.

Great shoe after a couple of runs. I needed the wider size in these, and during the first couple of runs the upper was rubbing uncomfortably, but the problem has gone away. Was running in NB 1062s before, but the new 1063 is much too firm for me. These have perfect amount of cushion for a big guy like me (6'2" 225lbs.)

This is the most comfortable shoe I've ever run in. I'm 6'1" and 195 lbs with a slight supination, and in the past I've had some problems with shin splints. I've had the Nimbus 11's now for 3 weeks and the splints are gone. No problems at all. Unbelievably soft and cushiony--exactly what I need. And the black and silver looks so much cooler than the dorky white. I just hope Asics leaves this shoe alone!

FINALLY!!! ASICS finally got it right!!! I have been waiting for this since the Nimbus 7, this is by far and away the best Nimbus since. After a complete nose-dive with the 8,9,10... ASICS finally got it right! My only request would be to bring the lacing back at least 50% more to center. Otherwise, BRAVO!!!

This shoe is good for Neutral runners who may slightly pronate. The toe box is roomy and the gel sole cushions the foot against shock. After 10-12K runs the foot is not fatigued and is cradled well inside the shoe. Overall worth a buy.

5'8" 160 lbs... getting back into running... started with a pair of Nike's not suited for me and about killed me. I'm really a Neutral foot with slight tendency to underpronate early in a run... The baby's were like pillows on my feet that really shined as I got beyond my first mile and settled into my standard neutral stride. I'll look at this line for sure if I need another pair.

I'm very prone to blisters and changed to the nimbus 11 after reading reviews. I'm very glad i did. The cushioning is superb. It adds a spring to my running stride that i never had before. There has been no signs of blistering or hot spots after a 5 mile road run and a 2 hour session in the gym. I highly reccomend this trainer.

5-9 188 3 mi m-f. Feels like running in firm marshmallows. No hot spots. I have been running in Mizuno wave creation for about 5 years but steered clear of the 10's based upon reviews. I could not decide whether to order normal street size or 1/2 up based upon limited reviews so I ordered both. The 1/2 size up was clearly correct for me and as advised by RR.

I have had 7 back surgeries and am always looking for a shoe that will cushion the impact of my heel hitting the pavement. Well I finally found that shoe, the Nimbus 11. This shoe makes it feel like I am walking on a pillow. It definately cushions the heel so that when walking there is no jolt to my back. I highly resommend this shoe to anyone that has back problems.

The Nimbus 11 is much better than the Nimbus 10. It is wider in the toe box and the offset lacing is not as drastic. As usual the Nimbus 11's cushioning is excellent! Unfortunately, the Nimbus 11 has issues with fit. This is not a shoe for orthotic wearers. The depth of the shoe is very shallow and the overlays are irritatingly restrictive. While the toebox is wide, the midfoot is slightly narrow. Also, the heel could be a tad more snug. With a few refinements the Nimbus could be the ultimate neutral shoe. Until then it gets a rating of 4.

Love, love, love this shoe! I had been a die-hard Nike fan, but I've converted! Fav details: laces along the contour of your foot (vs straight up the middle), solid support yet wonderful cushioning, great fit with roomy toe-box. Pricey, but worth it!

I am a big runner over 260+ and these do a great job of taking the stress off of my knees and feet. The sizing is tricky. My usual 10.5 resulted in mushrooming of my foot over the edge and heel pain. An 11 was a bit long yet fit nicely in the toe box and width. Have been using Asics since the Excaliber-GT days (1982)

This shoe is awesome! I am a service member serving in Iraq and love RRS because they ship here. I always wear Asics and the Gel Nimbus 11 doesn't dissapoint! I have bought the 10's and the 9's in the previous years and also own the Gel Kayano's but the Nimbus 11 is my favorite. The cusion and support are spot on and the shoe has a comfortable fit and feal to it. In addition, you can't beat the weight. Looking foward to returning home and running in the Wichita Marathon! Cheers all!!!!

A more "normal" look this year. The cush is a less mushy and more springy; the weight is less and the heel feels a bit more snug. The forefoot is perhap a wee bit wider. A very nice ride with no more "hey spiderman" calls.

After buying the 10 last year I felt that the Nimbus run of wearing the line whcih started with the Nimbus 7 was over, This shoe should have been the 10. The best running shoe I have even worn and the black/ grey has amazing looks. Takes the great styling of the Nimbus 8 and 9 with a better ride.

Just checked out a pair. Asics really blinged out the design with action striping on the uppers and faux suede on the tongue. Super cushy ride, asymetrial lacing while not entirely gone, has become a lesser technological emphasis... Very stable base/platform felt a bit cloggy as I have become used to lightweight Triumph 6 from Saucony. But definitely on my short list as my next long run shoe.
