The Asics Gel Kayano 16 is a winning distance training shoe for me. This model seems pleasantly lighter than older models, and I find it really breathable and conforming to my foot. The asymetrical lacing helps here! I've also found this Kayano model 16 more flexible than some of the preceding models of this shoe. I tend to alternate between the Kayano and Mizuno's Nirvana, but when I made that alternate purchase earlier this summer, I found the Nirvana to be remarkable stiff and unforgiving (something about the heel cup construction just seemed to bruise my own heel), and I ended up making another Kayano 16 purchase after giving the Nirvana two-three weeks worth of runs to break it in -- it just never broke in, never became a comfortable fit. I run anywhere from 5 miles-10 miles a day on trails, dirt and paved roads combined. I find the Asics Kayano 16 has good traction on all these surfaces and great cushioning that really helps make running down mountainous terrain in Vermont more comfortable. I am truly sad to hear that the Kayano 16 is listed as discontinued, and I hope its many great features (lightness, flexibility, cushioning, durability, etc) will carryover to the next model!

12th pair of Kayanos - keep making them!
I've worn the Kayanos for years after trying many brands. Nothing else came close to the comfort. After using several pairs of Kayanos I tried another brand which looked similar and was highly recommended by other runners. They didn't seem as supportive, but I still had them even though I went back to the Kayanos. It's embarrassing to admit, but it was an early morning and still dark when I got ready for a 15 mile run. I mistakenly put a Kayano on my left foot and the other brand on my right. My knee with the other shoe started giving me problems about mile five and continued even though I stopped and stretched several times. My running buddy really teased me when we finished and she noticed the difference in the shoes. It proved to me Kayanos are the only shoes I will buy. I know I need a new pair when my knees start bothering me - when I put on the new pair those problems are ended.
Bummed mine were stolen
I overpronate. I weigh 125 lbs and run between 7:15 and 8 min. miles 3-4 miles/3-4 days/week on a treadmill. I wear inserts in the shoes, so I go 1/2 size up. I've been wearing Asics for years and always go back to the Kayano. I love this particular model, and I'm so irritated someone stole them from my gym's lockerroom while I was showering. I will buy another pair ASAP.
Wanted to love it but didn't
I run about 20-30miles a week. I am cuurently training for a marathon and have ran many halfs. I had the Kayano 15, then switched to the Mizuno Wave and started have bad knee pain. Purchased the Kayano 16 and my knee pain was much better in about 2 weeks BUT the lacing system(i think)caused horrible pain on the top of my foot during a 10 mile run. Went out again 2 days later and didn't even make it a mile but could put on my old Kayano 15's and finish the run. I have very bony feet so mabey the lacing system just doesn't work for me. I am praying the asic 3020's I have ordered will solve this problem. I think the support(i pronate) is great in this shoe and I would have kept them if not for other problems. I might mention also that a girl that I work with had this same problem with the top of her foot but it eventually got better.
Gel Kayanos still a favorite with me
Some people don't like the changes from model to model, but I have moved through the various Gel Kayanos without difficulty. I don't have pronation issues, so technically this might not be the shoe for me, but I have always done well with them. I have occasional trouble with my heel and achilles tendon, and I find that the gel cushioning helps a lot. (Also, I do have high arches, and I don't believe this shoe is necessarily recommended for that, but I don't have any difficulty.) I use them primarily for road, sidewalk, and paved trail running. Dirt and little rocks do tend to get through the mesh, so I don't like them so much on off-road surfaces. My main complaint is that the mesh does wear out quickly, and my big toe seems to make a hole fairly soon.
2nd post Cheryl Asics advocate las vegas
I posted a review on this shoe titled Asics advocate. I do love Asics shoes, I just wish they would quit changing a good thing. I ran in the Kayano 11's and 12's and when they were discontinued, had to try the successors 13-16. Injuries occurred from stress fractures to bursitis and knee pain, when I got the 16's I was happier but still the shoe was too controlling for me and lacked the cushion in the right areas. I have since switched to the Gel-Nimbus 12's and am happy to be running injury free and enjoing it. I am 5'8'' 115-120lbs. 31yo f I run 3-5 miles on the tred-mil and 1.5 miles outside per day. I have avg. to high arch neutral to under pronate. Asics shoes have always seemed true to size for me I order regular sizing although I consider myself to have a narrow heel and wider forefoot, the toebox in Asics seems roomy without ordering Wide width
I'm Female 5'8'' 115lbs. Run mostly tred-mil 3-5 miles per day plus 1.5 mile loops daily with my pet. I Avg. 30-35 miles per wk and this shoe holds up for approx. 3.5mths. (I tend to buy early; most would say I have another 2-3mths b-4 needing a new pair) I am a huge fan of the Asics 11&12. Hated the 13,14, & 15. I have great form and believe the other shoes really tried too hard to correct form which is great if your form needs correction but can be dangerous if it does not. I also think the 16's do tend to push me to my toes a bit much but still surpass the comfort and stability of the previous three models. If you can find them I suggest investing in as many pairs of the 11 or 12's as possible; if not, settle for this shoe, you will not be disappointed

Almost sent them back, glad I kept them!
I run every day on road and trail. Loved the Kayano 15, received the Kayano 16s when I was overseas so not easily sent back. Thought the lacing was odd and less comfortable, didn't think they felt as comfortable as the Kayano 15. Due to difficulty (mine) in sending them back and getting replacements,I kept them and am glad I did. They are great, they are light, comfortable, after a few runs (2) they mould to your foot. Glad I kept them. The only negative (slight) I found was that the sideways lacing design at the toe seems to slightly pull the tongues of the shoes sideways so I am occasionally readjusting them. They are not the Kayano 15 but I think they are better than any other shoes out there on the market at the moment!

I was very fortunate to get to go to the actual store in San Deigo, California. I pulled up and they had front parking places for the VIP members! When I walked in there were happy employees everywhere that greated you. Then A shoe dog greated me and he spent 2 hours with me helping me make the right choice for my gait and feel of the shoe. They are very professional and funny at the same time. All I can say is this shoe is great and will be one of my favorites from now on. May have to make a special trip to San Deigo again just to get the special attention again!! lol, I live in Arkansas too. hehe
I run a minimum of 5 miles a day, and I am on the elliptical for 60 minutes a day. I have had ASICS for years now and won't ever change. These shoes are sturdy and comfortable. I love them fact that the laces tie on the side giving the shoe a more natural fit. The shoes are very breathable and my feet are never to hot. They are also very light weight and flexible enough to allow natural motion of your foot while running. I have recommended these shoes to my friends, who have purchased them and love them. I am actually online now to purchase another pair [...]
I really didn't want to like these. Seriously. I've known people with a more normal arch than myself, with less pronation issues, and they liked this shoe. I always thought that I needed some super heavy-duty anti-roll clunky shoe to keep me comfortable on long runs. However, after suffering in another brand's stability shoe and developing some pretty serious IT band issues, I switched to this and my IT band was normal in a week. (Some massage helped too). I guess what I'm saying is that the long-term hype and broad spectrum of uses that is touted with this shoe are well deserved. It really was the shoe for me, even though I resisted at first! Thanks Asics!
Kayano 16 - absolutely love them
I am glad I decided to go for Kayano's again , # 16. I have had in the past , the ASICS Kayano 13 , and 15 , ASICS 2120 , and am really happy with the latest version of KAYANOS.I still keep my #13 thinking these were the best out there. However , MODELS KEEP GETTING BETTER AND BETTER,,,,I am a overpronator , moderate arch and the Kayano 16 really fit for me like magic...PLEASE NOTE , I do usually order half size larger in ASICS , normal size is 9 but I did order the 9 1/5, and it was a great fit, otherwise would have been snug on your toes...I do not do much running though , but so far for long trail walks / and aerobic classes have been really wonderful. thanks ASICS , Thanks ROAD RUNNERS [...]

A Favorite Already
This shoe had been recommended to me so many times, I was leery. Can a shoe really work for _that_ many people? I have never been an Asics gal, sticking with my Sauconys and New Balances. I had a bad recent experience with a different brand shoe (exacerbated some IT Band issues) but when I switched to this model, it all went away. I'm a believer! The hype is truly worth it. This shoe works for a LOT of types of people. There is a good reason it's so popular, indeed!
I also really like the off-center lacing style, it really takes the pressure off the top of the foot.
Running in Kayanos since invention:)
Like a junkie (from what I've read), I've tried to give these guys up to no avail. Like a bad (but good) habit, I keep coming back no matter how much I try to swear them off for "minimalist" or cheaper shoes. Perhaps if I'd started off being "born to run" by running barefoot, the story would be different. But I'm just hooked...every time I try to do the barefoot thing, even gradually, or strengthen my quads, the left knee pain comes back. I use orthotics, but they aren't enough to keep my "Q axis" where it needs to be.

Running ur Asics off
What more can I say, I run is Asics all the time..Kayano16 has a great color selection. I luv the extra flare of color on the laces..A stripe of color then just a solid white lace..Great overall performance shoe for running..Unique way it is laced down your foot nicely..It has a slight turn for a more together n snug strong lacing ..It isn't just down the center of the shoe like most shoes..Luv my asics..Kayano is one the best shoes I have ran in..

Superb Supportive Shoes!
I was told by my PT to buy these shoes to compensate for really low (okay, non existent) arches, and she was right on target! These are the first running shoes I haven't gotten arch blisters or felt the need for additional inserts. They're phenomenal for stability, were broken in quickly (ran a full in them less than a week after they arrived), and the side lacing makes a world of difference in the comfort level. I've always been an asics girl, and now I'm sworn to Kayanos thanks to they're surefire stabilization; my arches and lower limbs are breathing sighs of relief!
Totally Worth the $$$
I have been a Kayano fan since the 11. However, the beginning of this year I opted for the Brooks Adrenaline 10. The Adrenaline is about $30 cheaper and I figured I'd give them a go. Within 3 weeks I developed painful plantar fascitis for the first time in my life. I tried adding superfeet and ran on those for awhile. No dice. Talk about a bummer. So I am back with the Kayanos and the pain has subsided. I teach Bootcamp every morning and NEED to run for my mental health. So staying off my feet was not an option. The Kayano are definitely the way to go if you suffer plantar fascitis.
No break in time needed
I run three times a week (about 15 miles running per week) on the treadmill and do eliptical three times. I own the Kayano 15 and think these are much more comfortable and did not need to be broken in. They fit exactly the way they are supposed to. The shoelaces are odd but have not had issues yet since this is my second weeks with the shoes. I am thinking that after the 60 days I will look into buying another pair just to keep for when these are worn.
I am going to start running outdoors now that the weather is nice. I am sure these will be great.

Excellent shoe that keeps on giving
I'm 5-9 140 lbs with a high arch and had severe plantar fasciitis last year.My orthopedic rehab dr. put me into a stability shoe. I eventually went into the Gel Kayanos and they're just what the Dr. ordered! Endurance is excellent I have close to 500 miles logged on them and they are showing little wear. Very comfortable shoe with a wider base than the 2140 series and seemably more stable. Shoes are on the pricey side but worth it for the durability and stability. I'll be running my next marathon in these shoes!
Walking on Clouds
I've been wearing the ASICS 2000 series for the last few years and decided to upgrade to the Kayanos since I'm running two marathons this year and would like more cushion. The Kayanos are a a sweet upgrade. The blue 16 is beautiful. The off-center lacing follows the contour of the foot without causing dorsal foot pressure. The shoe is well cushioned and not has heavy as I expected. True to size. I have used it on the treadmill 3 times and can't wait to wear them at the next half marathon!

Get the pink!!!
I run 3-5 miles per run, and average 20 miles per week. I just need a good shoe so that my knees aren't killing me half way into the run. I had the Kayano 15's, but they wore out through the toes. I really liked them, though...so I upgraded to the 16's. They are super comfortable, and I love running in them. As always, go 1/2 size up for Asics...and you'll love them. I got the pink this time, and they're SO pretty. I love the color, too!! I'm talking my husband into getting the men's version!

Love this shoe!!!! As a clysdale women (165 lbs) I go thru my shoes a little faster than most. However, I love to run!!!!!....Running helps keep a great mind, body & spirit! These shoes are true to size & true to form. These shoes make it possible for a women like me to stay in shape!!! No injury, little impact and comfort! WHAT MORE COULD A CLYSDALE WOMEN ASK FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful running shoe for bigger runner
I run about 3-4 miles on pavement 3-4 times a week. I am 5'8" and 190 lbs. I started running 2 years ago at 256 lbs. 66 lbs lighter now and still going! I do 5K's and 10K's only. These shoes have amazing cushion. I just bought these a week ago and have had some great runs since. Very, very comfortable thanks to the cushioning provided by this shoe. I had the Kayano 15's before these -- I think the arch support and fit are better with these.
Running the mass off
I trained for my second marathon in these shoes and didn't get injured. I am prone to shin splints and haven't had any problems since getting these shoes. I am a 4-5 day a week runner who runs on concrete sidewalks. I am on my second pair and have another pair waiting. I really like these shoes. I think they run true to size but I wear thick socks so I always order bigger. I think the webiste indicates order 1/2 size up. I do that and haven't had a problem.
Awesome Trusty Shoe
After years off from the Kayano and not running, I bought a pair back in Sept 2010 to train for a 1/2 mary . . . this has been the best shoe I have ever worn. I really like the lacing, it hugs the foot nicely and the heel is just right with a wider toe box. It is sufficiently light for a stability shoe and handles longer miles just fine. After trying out a pair of 17's when they first came out (to see if my body liked them), I immediately returned them and bought all the 16's left on the shelf (like 4 pairs) --- not sure what I will do once I wear all these out other than hope Asics goes back to the 16's. Great shoe, HIGHLY recommended!!! (I have also tried the NB 850 - too hard, the Asics 2100 series - a little snug in the arch an toe box, and the Mizumo Nirvana, foot cramps on the outside)
I've been an asics fan for over 2 decades. These are my first Kayano's (usually wear Nimbus), but I used RR's FetchDog perfect fit finder which suggested the Kayano's. I LOVE THEM! I land heavy & these provide the perfect cushioning & shock absorbtion. IT band problems also in past, but have not been bothered since using these. I'll be sticking with the Kayano's. Only request is more color options.
Running on Clouds!
I put on 30 lbs. of weight because I allowed myself to not train while dealing with stressful issues at work. Now, that I'm back into running again three times per week, I needed a running shoe that would help cushion the extra weight that I'm carrying around. Excellent shoe for this purpose ...excellent shoe! I really feel like this shoe is taking a lot of the pounding ...and my knees and shins are grateful!
San Diego, CA
Fantastic and Reliable Shoe!!!
I have been using this shoe (models change yearly...they are always coming out with a new and improved version) since 2000 when I trained for my first marathon. Now 10 years later I am still only using this shoe for all my runs including five in total since 2000! They have never let me down. I have never had blister problems, aches or black toes. I will continue to wear these and if you run a lot and want a really good, durable and reliable shoe I recommend you try the kayanos!
Trusty Old Friend
I'm on my 3rd pair and they are always a "trusty old friend". I order a half size up and in a wide width than I normally wear. The only cons I have about these shoes is they do feel a bit stiff right out of the box. The other is due to the larger size I order (?), they develop holes on the inside of the heel in the cushioning that tends to rub. It's happened to every pair of Asics (around 12 or so) I've ever owned.
Miles and Miles to Go Before I Sleep
I LOVE ASICS!!
I love Asics! As a woman with a large foot these were the first shoes I've been able to find that are made for a woman with a larger foot. In years past I would have to buy men's shoes that didn't fit quite right. I'd be left with badly bruised toe nails and sore feet after long runs. I still experience some of that but only on runs longer tht 15 miles. These are my 7th pair and I love them!!

This shoe is the best update yet. I've worn the Kayano over the years and it has been getting bigger and bulkier. When I went into the store in December I was ready to try another shoe. Then I tried on the new Kayano 16. It gave me much more with much less! Finally I feel the Kayano is back to where it should be maximum support with out being a brick around my foot!

I would not recommend the Kayano 16 to anyone that needs a stability shoe. The 16 is the worst of the Kayano version. I ordered a pair, wore once and sent them directly back and ordered the 15 (which I wore the longest and ingested the comfort out of them). I will continue to order my 15's now. The 16's lacks the integrated lacing and midfoot range comfort. Needs a big improvement or they should just take them all off the shelf and start over right.

I prefer the Kayano 15's to the new Kayano 16's. Kay 15s seem more stable in the weeks over 40 miles. 16's feel like less cushion is in the front, and I had to go a half size up, unlike the 15's. I try not to use Kay 16's in runs longer than about 8 miles.

I have been wearing Gel Kayano since XI, loved 11 and 12,then 13-15 terrible, some pretty colors but these shoes are for fitness not fashion and was extremely disappointed in all three when it came to comfort, actually the 13's caused me some serious damage. I almost gave up on Asics then the 16's came out...Redemption. I run about 30 miles a week give or take, 5'8'' and 115 lbs. People please, consider this when writing reviews. Mileage and build of a runner make a diff. in shoe preference.

Some of the above reviews are clearly fake. RoadRunner should do a better job of reviewing and vetting reviews that seem to have been written by the shoe company. Submitting a review requires me to pick a star-rating, so I have defaulted to the mid-range so as not to skew the average.

Asymmetric lacing was a hugr error! I have run in Kayanos since 2003 and am very upset by the lacing which actually irritates the top of my first MTP joint. Many people have a bone spur in this area and I cannot imagine why any manufacturer would place a seam over that spot. Had to send mine back and am now in search of a new running shoe to take its place until Asics can go back to the old standard lacing. What a way to ruin a shoe!!!!

I was very anxious to order the Kayano 16. When I received them. I immediately struggled to have this shoe feel comfortable. It lacks the integrated toe-in lacing that I loved with the Kayano 15 and certainly now the 16 mimics the Nimbus. There seems to lack the cushion comfort. Felt like I was walking on cement. I think they should of left in the integrated toe-in lacing. The shoe is only suppose to be a hair lighter in weight, perhaps they took out some of the comfort. I will stick with the Kayano 15 now.

Kayano 16 changes for the better. Feels like they improved the fit around the ankle, and removed the lacing stip over the toe box, because I don't feel any rubbing, like the 15. Only a snug fit and cushier feel.
