I have been an Asics fan ever since I blew out both feet to plantar fasciitis and was introduced to the 2140. Ever since the 2140 dissapeared I was not entirely happy with the 2150 or 2160 due to excessive heel slippage and lacing system putting too much presure on my instep atempting to compensate for the slippage. I have been waiting for Asics to correct these issues for years now and they have done a vey good job with the 2170. The tongue is more padded. The PHF padding is thicker creating a nice heel atmosphere and lacing system does not cause the tongue to dig in to the side of my foot. I have heard about the 10 mm heel drop but dont notice the difference. Dont be sucked into stocking up on the 2160. Go out and try this bad boy on. I was sold in 5 minutes when it usually took me 2 hours of indecision, driving the salesmen crazy and lots of hesitation due to Asics past mistakes. I still miss the 2140 but after 3 models later Asics has finally returned the same feel and made it even better! Good job Asics!!

THE VERY BEST FROM ASICS
What a surprise to find these shoes available, after disappointing 2000 and 2000-2 models. The 2170 is the most successful model ASICS has produced. It has no flaws. The fit is perfect right out of the box, feeling comfortable and inspiring you to perform, work out or whatever you want to do. I am a fitness pro, working for a major national club. I am in the Gym five days a week, sometimes six and my feet do not get tired. Running, walking or in my case mostly working out and teaching classes. The cushioning is superb with just the right amount of support and unobtrusive pronation control. Knowing from past experience that there will be change for the sake of it, I purchased four, yes four (4) pairs - two in red and two in blue. I use one for street walking and the rest rotate working at the Gym. I never walk out on the street with my "Gym" shoes. They all stay in pristine condition. I just wish ASICS will designate the 2170 a classic and continue to offer them to the "die hard gym rats". I have no doubt that 2170 will remain a best seller, ever. Right now I am about to order my fifth pair from The RoadRunerSports.

I have been less than satisified with Asics products for the last few years. Roughly 5 years ago I returned the Asics GT model and purchased the Brooks Adrenaline series at that time. I stuck with that series for 2-3 years, then switched to a Nike Air Elite + shoe for the next 3 years. However, since Nike likes to discontinue their best shoes and decided to discontinue that model for a few years, I figured I'd make the switch back to Asics.
The reviews were very positive for the 2170 having fixed or addressed issues from the 2160. However, I am very displeased with the support and fit of the shoe. My heel slides in the shoe (all eyes are laced and the shoe is tight, and yes, they are the right size) causing blisters on the ankle region and the heel region. I also find that once my heel begins to slide, so does the palm of my foot, also causing blisters along my big toe region. This "sliding" issue occurs between miles 2-2.5 almost consistently. At this point, I may try inserts for added arch support and if that doesn't work, look for a new shoe (but they all seem to be a new and different fit each year) so if anyone has suggestions reading this, please let me know. I am 5'9 and a solid 178, and run roughly 20 miles a week.
I just hope "free" shoes aren't the next "skinny" jean trend?
Changed just enough to screw it up
I am 6'1" / 155lb and I run daily, 40-50 miles per week. I've worn the ASIC GT-21XX size 11.5US series since the GT-2100. I've always thought they were comfortable for long runs. In my experience, the series seems run about a 1/2 size large.
I bought two pairs of 2170s but ended up returning them. Compared to the GT-2160s, the topline of the quarter fits about 8mm lower on the medial (inside) side. For me, this caused severe inflammation where it contacted a medial tendon (tibialis posterior) in my ankle after just a few miles of running.
I have never had this problem with any of the predecessors, and both pairs of 2170s caused the problem. Switching back to my old 2160s quickly fixed the problem, so I'm certain that the problem is caused by the shoe.
I just bought a pair of the new GT-2000s. The fit seems quite a bit different than the previous series, but the medial quarter topline is higher again. So far this seems to have corrected my issue.
My 6th Pair of ASICS GT-2170!
As I stated above,I realised years ago that if you find the "Correct" item that enables you to preform or compliments your goals, STICK WITH IT & DO NOT THINK THAT
A NEW PRODUCT IS BETTER.When I stated above that I had already purchased 6
pairs of the GT-2170 over a 5 year period,I realise that ASICS is not manufacturing this model so I have purchased 2 pair that are in my closet. I enjoy putting on the
GT-2170's after wearing loafers or oxfords and take a walk of jog. My wife thinks it
Is the fact that they look & feel very good, the main thing is that they my body to relax
While wearing them.
GT-2170, Round 2: 2000 in a 2170 Wrapper
What's Asics trying to pull here?
This review is for the GT-2170s I ordered online in April 2013. I've been wearing the 2000-series for many years. I got my first pair of 2170s last year, and loved them. The latest pair felt like a GT-2000, which I consider a sorry excuse for a 2170 "replacement."
In 2012, the width of the 8 1/2, 2E and 9D felt almost the same to me. The April 2013 version 2170s in 9D were too narrow and seemed noticeably longer than the size 9's I'd tried on in 2012. Also, there was a lot less padding. My immediate reaction: a 2000 dressed up as a 2170.
What the heck is wrong with Asics? First, they ruin a classic shoe. Then they try sell me an imposter shoe. Maybe it's time to change brands.
Sad to see them go
Bought these shoes in 2011 in preparation for a Half Marathon. They fit true to size and provided great cushioning on hard asphalt. I'm sad to see them go.
Like any narrow width shoe, my only complaint about them is the lack of variety. If you have a narrow width foot, you know what I'm talking about when it comes to shoes...blue/white is your only color choice.
If you can still find this shoe it's great for a novice runner who's putting mid-mileage on them each week. I haven't raced in them since 2012, but I can tell they've long since lost the cushioning for long runs. They held up well and work great as a normal street sneaker. I'll have to switch over to lawn mower duty soon though and get some of those lightweight NBs.
4th pair of these 2170 gems
I love my 2170s. Asics does tend to tweak their shoes a bit too much, so when I find a great fitting pair, I usually stock up. The 2000 is a great example. That toe box and fit are terrible, thus the newer, better fitting GT-2000-2. The Asics GT series has been in my closet since the 1990s. My only complaint is the hels wear out on mine with less than 350 miles. Older versions would get me closer to 450-480 miles, and I alternate days with these shoes to extend the life. All in all, a great shoe, with the GT-2010, GT-2080 and GT-2160 still my favorites. I would wear the Kayano but for the number of shoes I go through per year and the cost!
2170 the Gratest
I am an instructor, working for LA fitness in South Florida. Asics have been my preferred shoe because they are made for professionals, both athletes and fitness pros. The 2170 is the best I have experienced, perfect fit right out of the box, good support and excellent cushioning. 2150/2160 were a bit of disappointment. I also liked the 1150, a light, all around very good shoe for the gym, walking and training. However, the 2170 are tops. I bought four (4) pairs - I have walking/running and gym shoes, which are like brand new. Too bad Asics acted like GM and changed for the sake of change to an inferior shoe the 2000 series.

One Excellent Stability Shoe
I run 6 days a week; average mileage per week is between 40 and 45 miles. This is the third purchase of two pairs of the 2170s and I have been impressed with the durability, lasting support and overall performance of this shoe. I rotate my shoes which I know has extended their lives. However this is a shoe that even if not rotated is one you can count on getting in excess of 400 miles out of. For the runner looking for an ideal stability shoe this is a shoe you can count on to be dependable for training and racing.
40 years of running and sitll at it!
Great running shoes for Clydesdale's!
I got these shoes to replace my Asics 1170's. Initially I got the GT 2000's and felt they were heavy, and not nearly as comfortable as the 1170's. I read similar reviews and people comparing the GT2000's to the 2170's, so I gave the 2170's a shot.
Well worth the gamble and effort.
I'm training for a 5k (beginner runner) and these shoes are very comfortable, breathe well and cushion well.
I've only owned them for a month, so I don't know how quickly they'll wear out. Pick up a pair, but not in size 11, those are mine :P
Have been a loyal 2150 user, went through 5 pairs, so didn't experience the 2160s, but this is a great update. All the usual benefits of a stability shoe, with some good updates: half an ounce lighter, and really feels much lighter, more gel for a softer landing, less unnecessary overlays, lacing integrates logo for a more snug fit. Overall, feels like a lighter more performance oriented trainer (vs. the 2150s) with excellent cushioning. 2170s are great, very happy with this update, will stick with these and buy multiple pairs in different colors to rotate.
I have used this shoe over the years and love it
This shoe is the best I have ever owned and I've been running since it became important to health. I can't find this shoe now and have tried others that just don't work. If I knew this model was going away I would have bought 1/2 dozen that last time. The fit is excellent and I need a wide toe box and this shoe provides it perfectly. With the shoes out there now I might as well be running long distances wearing sneakers.
Almost as good as Kayano 18
I had great success with the Kayano 18, but the Kayano 19 was not anywhere near as durable, the heel wore down in a month and ahalf. So I was looking for a replacement and decided to try the GT2170. It is close to the Kayano 18 so far but not quite there.
For one thing I had to go up 1/2 size from normal, so they run small. It also is stiffer feeling and had to break it in walking before running, as it was really stiff. So far it has worn well, but only had it for a month. It has similar AHAR heel as the Kay 18 did so hope it is good.
My feet have high arches, a narrow heel, and they slightly pronate. The first pair of 2000 Series running shoes I wore were 2050's. They were the best fitting shoes I've ever worn. However, the difference in feel between 2050's, 2060's, and the 2070's is negligible. My feet enjoy the snug fit on the ankles, the unobtrusive arch support, and the cushioned feel from the gels. My feet, knees, and hips enjoy the pronation correction. At Roadrunner's price point you can't get a better shoe.
A Guy Named Joe
best shoe in a good line
I've been running in the 2100 series shoes for about 4 years and generally like them. They all have their own quirks, but for my foot (narrow/flat), stride (heel striker), and wallet (stingy), this is the best one of the series. It feels cushier and less clunky than the 2150 especially. The other shoes in this line made me feel like I was compromising for some types of running, but this one feels equally good for long runs, track work, tempos, and recovery runs.
Get it while you can
The next version of this shoe, the GT-2000, loses the pronation control and arch support that this shoe has. I found my arch hurting on long runs, so the GT-2170 will be my go-to shoe for now. Anyone that needs more arch or pronation control will prefer this shoe to the 2000. I just stocked up on this and bought two pairs before they're gone. BTW in terms of fit this is the exact same Asics fit they've always had, I just always had to buy one half size larger to get a good fit.
I run 60-70 miles a week on pavement/dirt/trails and I have only worn Asics for the last 18 years. I started off with the GT-2110 and have moved through to the GT-2170 as they discontinued the earlier models. I don't have any complaints and haven't had any injuries. If you are looking for a good performing shoe at a decent price, then consider the GT-2170. Paying more for the other models is just fluff I found I don't need.
Great shoes, I have been using them for 6 months after I ran in Lunar glide 3 and had back and knee pain after a 10k. These shoes worked for me very good, I am 6'3 and 216 pounds. I had run 3 10k races and ran more than 50k without pain or issues. Good comfort and these shoes will be my shoes to go for the half marathon and hope that this year´s marathon. I also run in brooks adrenaline gts that are really good but still will use the asics
Busted out the sides
I bought the Ascics GT-2170 based on the the reviews. The reviews were right on as far as the ride and feel of the shoe. The shoe's upper wore out with in six months. I normally wear the sole out before the upper. I also rotate my foot wear daily so the upper should have lasted a bit longer by my expectations. I wore out the side of the shoe. It did not appear to be a fault in design. The material just wore out.
Exactly what I needed
I was looking for a show to replace my old runners that I wore out. My old pair were a slightly older model of Asics and they were good to me. I wanted to get something similar and am very happy with this pair. They offer the arch support and stability I need and are comfortable to wear as I run. I'll probably get the same pair to replace these when they wear out.
Asics GT-2170 another winner!
I have used Asics in the 2000 series for fifteen years. The 2170 is superb, durable, snug fitting, and it handles 400 miles with orthotics. I am sad the GT-2000 replaced it. I bought a second pair of the 2170s for insurance and a sixth pair of 2160s. Asics has my number when it comes to my feet, with more than 66,000 miles recorded to date.
I have been wearing Asics stabilty shoes for almost 30 years. I have always had a model from the 2XXXX series. They keep changing the numbers, and reviewers keep saying things are different this time, but from a real runner's experience, it's the same shoe. I guess you have to change something to keep an old favorite fresh. At least it wasn't any of the features.
THE VERY BEST FROM ASICS
This is a follow up to my July 31, 2014 review. I ordered my fifth pair of the great ASICS 2170's from the RoadRunnerSports and am awaiting delivery by tomorrow 6 p.m. Looking forwars to going to the gym, L.A. Fitness, take them out of the box and have fun for the next two hours. At least.
Miami Beach, Florida
I've always ran in Kayanos, but was looking for something a little cheaper. I have put over 200 miles on these shoes now, and have not one complaint! I train @ 30mpw at a 7:45-8:15/mile pace. Working towards a fall marathon, and these shoes have been wonderful, even for my 16+ mile long runs.

Great Stability Running Shoe!
I run 20-30 miles a week and this shoe stands up to the use very well. I run in the rain and heat and have had no problems with construction of shoe or durability. Price is very good for the quality. Blue laces, eh, not so much but hey, I'm not usually looking at them!
This one is my running shoe!
I am a 63 year old runner who gets in 5 to 10 miles a day 5 times a week. I have been having some problems with my Achilles tendon and have tried different shoes. This one is now my running shoe. I have almost eliminated all pain since wearing this one to run in. Good control!!

Love the GT-2170
Started when I turned 40 and now in my 70's, so I need a little more support now. This shoe provides cushioning for the forefoot and stability for my changing pace. I was having some problems in my old ones that went away with new shoes. Replace them before you have imbalances that cause injury!
Lake City, Florida
ascis up to the 2170 are great shoes. This shoe has been discontinued. There new lines are nowhere near as comfortable. I will be looking for new shoe to replace this one. If anyone has idea about shoe as comfortable and as good as asics old lines let me know.
Love the shoe. Much better cushioning than my previous shoes. I am still breaking them in but so far so good. I am beginner runner and need a bit more cushioning to prevent shin splints and out of all the shoes I tried on these were the best. Thanks Road Runner Sports!
