Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: Super excellent right out of the box. I thought I would go slow with a break in run and ended up running ten miles without thinking about it. Great cushion and support, breathes well, perfect. at 190 pounds running 20 miles of speed work per week these are great shoes. My feet pronate a little bit so the pronation control is fantastic.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: Excellent running shoe. This is my third pair in the DS Trainer series. It cushions yet remains relatively light and very responsive. Today I ran 26.2 miles in preparation for an Ultra in June.
Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I liked the 16 so much that I bought three pairs. This feels like a different shoe, heavier and stiffer. The 17 weighed in a little over 1 oz. heavier (10%) than my latest pair of 16s and featured a Kayano-like ride. Maybe they got too many durability complaints, but I'd get 350 miles out of the 16s. I'm switching shoes and, given the lack of other Asics offerings in this category, this means switching brands. Too bad.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I was attracted to them because they were on sale and endangered. Low enough that if they were'n't so great to run in I could just wear them with jeans etc. So far so good though. The sock liner thing feels way better than I thought it would. I have been wearing motion control shoes but I wanted something with a lower drop as I am trying to change my technique. the Trainers seem to be working for me. I don't know how durable they are I haven't had a chance to wear them out yet but Asics generally makes a good shoe in fact I realized that the last 3 or 4 pair of shoes have been Asics. so I suppose that says something right there, I would recommend them they are light, comfortable and have decent lateral support. And you gotta love that electric blue

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: Just added my 3rd pair of 17's, 46th overall in DS Trainers---any doubts about whether or not I like them? Consistently supportive and cushioned ride.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I use the shoes predominately for faced paced walking. I have a problem with my right heal being more narrow than my left so slipping of the heal has been an issue in other shoes. The heal hugging collar does the trick! Solved my problem!!!

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I was pleasantly surprised at how well these shoes performed. I typically do 50+ miles a week and the shoe wore very well throughout. Every runner is diffent of course, and will have a different opinion than mine. Again, I could not have been happier with these and looking forward to another pair.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I am 32 years old and have been running for about 12 years. Currently have been running halves and 10K's. The DS Trainer was my absolute favorite back in the early 2000's (when I ran marathons) but it has faded over the years. This is the second time I have tried to go back to it. They have dropped some weight which is good but the shoe feels clunky and needs to be sleeker like the new Brooks "Pure" line. Overall not a bad shoe just not exciting and poor color choice

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I use this as my main training shoe after initially using an earlier version to race marathons. It occurred to me that I finished the marathons with far less knee pain than when I used heavily cushioned shoes. I switched to training in these about 18 months ago and am very pleased.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: Been wearing ASICs DS trainers for at least a decade or more. this Model is putting lots of pressure on my left heel/tendon where it meets the top of the shoe. There is the extra plastic piece sewn into the heel. I think this may be the problem. Didnt notice it on earlier models

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: Been running in DS trainers for past 18yrs. DS 17 for whatever reason caused heel pain and developed plantar Fascilitis. competitive runner who knows how to properly train for 18yrs,with little variation in training techniques over the years. I did go 1/2 size larger for first time as recommended. perhaps that may have changed my gait. anyway, returned one used and one still-boxed for 1/2 sizesmaller.. will keep you posted

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I stayed away from the DS - Trainer 17 for a while because of lots of iffy reviews on RRS. I went through a few different shoes before I came back to my trusty DS-Trainers.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: "Upgraded" from the 16 to the 17 late last year when 16s were not available. I've been confused and frustrated since. Some of the other reviewers have sufficiently covered the weight mistake (I mean really? Every manafacturer is reducing weight and Asics is ADDING weight to their lightweight trainer???)

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I have been running in the Asics DS Trainer line for the past 20 years. I have really enjoyed the low weight and generally speedier feel of this type of shoe. I am 5'10 and 160 so I have never run in or needed a "stability" shoe. The fit for the 17 is good like in past versions (just go up 1/2 size), but my gripes about the 17 are the following: 1) heavier, 2) less flexible, 3) feels more like a stability shoe (ie Kayano) than a lightweight trainer.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: This is the first stability shoe I like. Usually I am a neutral (Brooks Launch is my fav.), but decided to try a stability shoe. I really like this shoe and it will be great for all my 15+ mile runs. It also is light enough to keep a Boston pace. One tip - tie them a bit tighter than other shoes so the clutch collar locks my foot down better to prevent blisters.

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I meant to buy more DS Trainer 16, but unfortunately the RRS ran out (really!?) So I settled for this ugly light blue & grey color 17 instead of my fav red 16. Coloring aside, the new 17 felt tad heavier than 16, and also tad more padded at the heal. Every steps felt like Kayano, heavier beefy shoose. This was dissapointing, as I switched from Kayano to DS for one reason - lightweight. I really hope Asics will go back to the drawingboard, and bring back the original concept of the DS trainer. also, I founnd the last two versions (16 and 17) wear out very fast. Instead of rotating two pairs every 3 seasons, I may have to double up...

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I usually wearing my shoes at any situation, like running, gym, walking, etc...I purchased this item exclusive for road run but not worked for me at all! not feel soft and confotably to my feet. I'll it exclusive for casual wearing but definitely not for run!

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: I have been wearing DS 16 for a year now (downgraded from Kayano, due to advice from my running bud). I've been happy woth DS Trainer, but 16 was out in store, so went with 17. Aside of that funky ugly blue color, the 17 felt heavier than the old trusted 16. Did Asics add paddiing??? It still performs well, but I just didn't see the "light" feeling when I switched from Kayano to DS trainer for the first time, and felt like backward of moving back to the old Kayano. I think Asics missed it here...

Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-DS Trainer 17 Running Shoe: This shoe is heavier and stiffer than its predecessor, the 16. I went through three pairs of the 16 and thought they were fantastic. Pre-ordered the 17 so I could ensure it would be an adequate replacement when my 16s wore out -- it is not. Right out of the box it felt heavy, and putting it on the scale showed a 15% weight gain. That's the wrong direction to move, but I ran hard runs, easy runs and long runs with them and found the ride to be stiffer and overly supportive - yet hard. It's just a different shoe now. Kinda like a less comfortable 20xx series shoe. I returned them and am trying out the Mizuno Wave Elixir. ASICS, please stop doing things like this.
