Dear Asics...It would seem you have succumbed to the nemesis of textbook publishers, releasing a new edition with very little or rotten changes and charging customers more for the "latest and greatest".
I have been a HUGE fan of Asics running shoes for many years and many miles. However, this latest "release" is something worse than horrible. It started with a tiny toe box (in the medium width) that produced numb toes that lasted thru the 6mile run, despite numerous and creative lacing trials. Then it traveled to a knee twinge and then settled in the low back. I am quite certain my chiropractor, who managed to get my back into running shape again just 3 mos ago after nearly a year's hiatus, will not be pleased with you either. Because my heels were nowhere near secure in the heel cup, my trail run was tenuous at best and I nearly face-planted on more than one occasion.
I have run in the Cumulus 12 and other generations for a long long time--the last 2 pairs I bought to rotate were the 12's. Why, oh why, did you mess with perfection?? I would rather have laced up my 12's (and they've been thru the WASHING MACHING for cripessake) than suffer this--there is more cushion in those old gems than this brand new pair. Even my orthotics didn't really fit in the shoe. Come again? Nope...nada, not happenin'.
So, dear Asics, PLEASE go back to your collective engineering drawing board and dust off the prints from the 12's--give us our good shoe back!!!
A long time nearly gone customer
I had the Cumulus 12, which had a lot more cushioning. I bought the Cumulus 14 after trying on other shoes, including the Pegasus, Saucony, and Brooks. I have bunions, so I look for cushioning, room in the toe box, as well as good arch support. I returned to Cumulus because it had the right support and cushioning, without the extra weight. My Cumulus 12 is noticeably heavier and bulkier, and after wearing them out I was starting to get shin splints. So I happily upgraded to the Cumulus 14 to run my first 10k without worrying about pain. I think Asics made some good improvements to make this shoe more lightweight without losing the comfort or changing the fit. Thanks!
Tight Toe Box
Took two short (<3 miles) runs in these, and while the cushioning and the stability were better than any Asics I've known, my toes were cramped and burning by mid-run. I have bunions and a wide forefoot, so Asics have always been my go-to brand. However, other reviewers were right: They narrowed the toe box on the 14, and I've got the sore toes to prove it. I even ordered a half-size larger than I normally wear (as recommended), but to no avail. If you have a normal/narrow forefoot, definitely buy these. They were just perfect in every other respect. I, however, had to bite the bullet and order the Kayano 19 and return these. Fingers (and sore toes) crossed!
Sarah Trying To Run
I have been wearing the Cumulus line for many years and I've never had any issues with them. This model is not up to snuff. I've had mine for 6 months (haven't put a ton of miles on them), and the cushioning is terrible. I remember them feeling weird in the arch and heel when I first started running in them. I just wrote it off as 'not broken in yet.' Well, that weird feeling never went away. The heel/arch of my foot just aches after I run in these shoes. I went back to wearing my old Cumulus 13's and I felt they still had way better cushioining (even after being 2 years old) than the 14's. I'm going to try and find some new 13's online and wear those.
Not my fav Asic
I've worn Asics Narrow width shoes for 10+ years. I'm loyal to Asics however their fit does not work for me in all their narrow shoes like they used to. May be because I'm getting older (lol), but Asics fit for narrow foot is lacking consistency. I run 30+ miles a week and tried the Asics Cumulus 14 for 2 months. After each run, I experienced a painful friction blister at lateral base aspect of great toes. I would alternate other Asic running shoes without this problem, so I decided to return and search again for my next great running shoe.
Nurse in Tri-training
Extremely disappointed :(
I have run in the Cumulus for MANY years with NO problems whatsoever. Unfortunately, this shoe is NOTHING like the previous models. I'm so disappointed in the changes, and wish that Asics would just leave a good thing as it is. I cannot run in this shoe, and might have to start trying out other brands. The toe box is way too narrow now, and the "cushioning" is absolutely horrible and ridiculous in this shoe. I'm going to look online and at other stores for the old models that are tried and true. Asics, PLEASE go back to your old model, and stop with the "upgrades" that totally change the shoe, and the reason we loved it!! :(
Definitely NOT a good Cumulus
I have been a Cumulus lover/supporter for many, many years and I have to say that the 14s are a huge disappointment. Typically I can run at least 10 miles on a pair right out of the box and it is perfection...as the Cumulus used to boast, "clouds for your feet!" Indeed! Well not this guy. I could barely eek out three miles without pain in the balls of my feet. I returned them right away and proceeded to buy up previous years models from every place I could find. Not sure what I will do without my beloved Cumulus. Please change them back. Change is not always progress.
Ruined a Good Shoe
I whole heartedly agree with all the reviews below. I've been an avid Asics Cumulus product user for many years, until now. The toe box is cramped and by mile 3 my toes on both feet are numb; by mile 5 toes and the balls of my feet are numb as well. I've tried different lacing techniques, which either ended with heel blisters, toe blisters or numb feet again. This is the first time I've had to return a pair of running shoes. Very disappointed in the Cumulus designers for ruining a good product.
"Improvements" are terrible
I have run in the Asics Cumulus for many years. I ordered this model and immediately when I put it on, it felt completely different than the other models. I returned the shoe and had to go online and find the older model to buy. My toes feel restricted in this shoe and the cushioning is not what it used to be. Hightly disappointed. Please bring back the older style!!!!
Maureen the runner
Very different then previous Cumulus
I was very disappointed with the Cumulus 14. I've been running in 12, 13 for years and this is a completely different shoe. The cushioning is not there and the toe box is much narrower. It feels stiff, and doesn't have the same pillow-y, hug your foot feel that I have loved for years. The 14 also runs 1/2 size smaller than the previous editions. Asics, please, please return to the old Cumulus - this one is not worthy of the Cumulus name. I'm so disappointed!
Not the expected cushioning
I have worn various versions of the Cumulus for 10 years. I've been running in these 14models for about 3 weeks. It is stiff and not as cushioned as the past version. I was thinking it would soften with use, but not yet. I also wear a 2A width and these seem wider than the old version or maybe seem so due to the stiffer feel. I'd return for exchange don't know what to do since my "go to" shoe for all these years has failed me.
Slow but steady
Runs really tight and small
The Cumulus 14 is definitely not the same shoe as the 12 or 13. It is stiffer and narrower. The toebox is extremely shallow. I thought the slightly thicker forefoot would help with the cushioning, but it didn't. This shoe did not accommodate my usual inserts/orthotics, either. Very disappointed in this version of the Cumulus.
Los Angeles, CA
Not as good as I thought
This shoe wore out very, very fast for me. I purchased a pair in June and run an average of 3-4 times 20-30 miles per week. The shoe broke down very fast on the exterior heel and the inside of the heel. By August the back of the heel was completely worn down. This has never happened to any of my other Gel Cumulus 14 shoes that I have purchased.
The Gray Fox
Good daily workhorse
I don't understand the poor reviews for this shoe. This is a solid neutral shoe with an inherently stable design. Cushioning is adequate but not pillowy. I never wore cumulus in the past because it was sloppy and lacked the asics fit. This shoe has improved in my opinion and has excellent arch support for longer runs
Runner for life
Just got these shoes in the mail and they are too small. My fault for not ordering a size up like the website suggests. I ordered an 8 which is my true size and they are so small. I filled out the exchange order for an 8.5 but I'm hoping I don't need a 9! I did not even try to run or walk in them because they were so small.
Love this shoe!
I love this shoe! This is the 4th pair of Cumulus 14's I have purchased. I have had knee issues and blisters on my feet with other brands of shoes. After trying several different brands, I finally found the right shoe for me!!
Tried the shoe by accident and loved it
I have used DS Trainers for the last 12 years and was traveling and accidentally forgot my running shoes, we were on Maui so it is very limited. Tried the Gel Cumulus and fell in love. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
So far the Best
These shoes are great! A very nuetral shoe. I tried to switch to the nimbus but they hurt my knees. Oh and they look so much better in person than online! (gray/blue combo)
Great Show for Beginner
Nice light weight shoe for a reasonable price. Good for me with low arches. Had to order half size up but fits great in larger size and with room for inserts. Happy.
Wore once and immediately returned. My feet hurt for 24 hours after my run. Have run in Gel Cumulus for years without a problem. Now trying to stock up on the Gel 13s before they're all gone.
My go-to shoe
This is my go-to shoe. I've worn my versions and love them all. I run 60-80 miles a week. My only complaint is they wear quickly.
Love this shoe
I use this show at the gym. I had back surgery and this offers amazing support.
Rancho Palos Verdes
Not as cushy!!
This shoe does not have the cushioning and support as the previous model.
Not like the old asics
I returned the shoes and will wait for a better fitting pair
Dog Thanks You
very comfortable shoes for long walks with the pooch.
