Purchased these shoes for my high mile runs anything from 10-22 miles and was pleased by their fit and feel on the trail. Unfortunately with about 150 miles on the shoes they are starting to fall apart. The uppers are ripped, the rubber toe guard is coming unglued and the lugs are also coming unglued. I typically run rocky somewhat technical terrain in San Diego, CA. I am a diehard Asics fan and expect much more out of their shoes. I have since returned the shoes and I'm now running in the Mizuno Trail Ascend 7.

Great distance trail shoe
Feels soft and flexible with very good arch support. I didn't feel any pain from rocks but the shoe is still flexible enough to enable my feet to get a good grip on difficult terrain. Considering how flexible it felt, it was still very stable on uneven surfaces. I just purchased these, so I have no comment as to durability. Blue and orange is a great color combination. I use them on singletracks, and very steep, rocky paths- they are great over rocks.

Comfortable trail shoe.
I'm a heavy trail runner (5'8" and over 200 pounds), and of late I've been running on some very technical trails complete with steep hills, rocks, roots, fallen trees, and water/mud hazards. Overall I like these shoes, however, the uppers are wearing MUCH quicker than my previous GEL-Trail Sensor 4 shoes. As a point of reference, my old "Trail 4s" have nearly 2000 trail miles on them and yet the uppers show only a little more wear than the "GEL-Scouts", even though the newer shoes have less than 400 miles on them.
The good news is that, unlike some other reviewers, the soles haven't had any wear or adhesion issues; hoping to get at least 1,000 miles out of them.
Specific wear areas:
- The outer mesh fabric layer is ripped in several places on both shoes.
- The inner heel cups of both shoes are hollowed out to the point where the rear padding is gone.

Good feeling shoe
Picked up this shoe on the clearance rack. An online review said they are a little on the heavy side, but they feel no heavier then the Cascadia 8. And while "heavy", they carry the weight very well at least for short runs (only gone about 5 miles twice so far). Run 1 was hard packed trail with lots of elevation, and they felt great. Run 2 was flat with lots of dry stream crossings (rocky) and my feet felt a little sore for that short of distance. Not to be confused with actual pain, just more discomfort then I would think I should feel.
In my short trail running experience (in order):
1: Salomon Speedcross 3: Absolute favorite shoe, but wears out FAST. Out of my budget for that reason.
3: Brooks Cascadia 8: Wore on a flat 50k. Good shoe.
4: Adidas XT: Bought at RRS, but not on site. They are light, traction feels good, but they are not balanced well.
5: XA 3D Ultra: They were mislabeled as neutral, they aren't. I can't run on them.
Updating my review from last August.
So, last summer, after I'd put ~400 miles on my first set of GEL-Scouts I was less than impressed with how fast they were wearing out. That said, they were really comfortable, and while showing their age from a visual perspective, they continued to perform well beyond the 1,000 mile threshold.
Due to their comfort and the forefoot rock protection, I purchased my second pair of GEL-Scouts last fall and now have over 1,400 miles on them. These have worn much better than the first pair, but they are now showing their miles and I'm about to order my third pair. Funny thing, I've been buying shoes from Road Runner since the 1980s, and never once have I ordered the same shoe three times in a row.

Great trail shoe
I bought these after trying to go the minimalist route for about 6 months. My feet were killing me. These were just the ticket. My runs start with about a mile of road then 3-5 miles of dirt fire road and singletrack with multiple steep hills/descents. Shoes are very comfortable and supportive without being too heavy. Well ventilated and after about 100 miles, seem to be holding up. I would buy again. 1 star deducted for loud colors but that's a small price to pay for shoes that work.
First use was the day after I received them and ran the Greenland Trail race. Comfortable and no break-in required and I had a fantastic race. On the technical trails I normally run, the shoes have had great traction and they have performed well in all weather (snow, rain, & heat). I typically run 30 miles a week on trails which can be hard on shoes, so I will wait to provide feedback on how well they hold up over time.

I was into the minimalist thing for a while, but my feet were the weak link after around 25 miles of hard trail running. Switched to the Gel Scout, trained around 150 miles in them then ran a very rugged 50k (Speed Goat). No foot issues, good traction, don't notice the extra ounces on a long run. If you're looking for a comfortable trail shoe this is it (works on road too).
Best Trail Shoe Ever
Great shoe. I am 67, 6' 4" 200lb .. same trail for 22yrs, 14-23 miles all up and down, no flats. Best shoe I have ever had and will buy again. About one year in and they hold up very well, new pair soon. No socks, just bare feet and these comfy, rugged, awsm shoes; no foot pain!

Great trail running shoe
This is my first pair of trail shoes, and I absolutely love them! I also have Asics Gel Cumulus road shoes and the Gel Scouts fit exactly the same. Not too heavy but they provide great traction in all conditions, mud, snow, hard pack, etc. If you don't own a pair of these, you are missing out!
Never had a bad pair of Asics.
Confortable and perfect for golf and everyday use. Love the color scheme. Have always enjoyed Asics.... never had a bad pair. Received numerous positive comments from golfing friends.
So far this product has been great. I only have bought 30 miles on them and yave been running all kinds of terrain and they have more then held there own for me. Hope they live up to the past experience that I habe had with this brand.
Everytime i put on these shoes there's a little party in my head and a relaxing trip to heaven for feet...these are the most comfortable shoes i've ever worn!!

Great Trail Shoe
Training for my first 50K so I was looking for a high mileage trail shoe and the Gel scout seemed a perfect fit. The shoes felt great right out of the box on a 8 mile trail run. I've since put close to 100 miles on them with a 16 miler as my longest. They are very flexible with great trail feel. The lug patter offers outstanding traction on the trail, but it is wearing much faster than I would have expected. I have run almost exclusively on trails with them so the wear was a bit surprising. Overall I am very pleased and would strongly recommend these shoes for those looking outside the minimal shoe realm.

Good Trail Shoe
I needed a trail runner that had a full rock protection plate for rocky trails, and this one fit the bill. The shoe is comfortable and has a good aggressive sole. These shoes only come in gaudy colors with shiny plastic trim, which may be great for kids, but hey Asics, how about giving us more color choices in this shoe? I also still can't figure out why so many shoe makers insist on making pointed shoes that are not in the shape of a human foot, but that's another story. Anyway, I'm sure they will look fine once they get covered with dirt and mud. Regardless, I like the feel and function of these shoes.
Versatile, well cushioned shoe
Excellent hybrid shoe. Extremely comfortable for road running and provides confidence for some moderate trail running As well. Highly recommended
Great trail shoe
Great shoe but Try them before buying. I usually wear a 12.5 in asics and these were too big. Have to exchange them for a 12.
Awesome comfort, got used to the color
Got these to replace an old pair of NB's. These are by far the best trail shoes I've had. I even got compliments on the color.

Great shoes for neutral feet
Great trail shoes, Loving them!!!
Great Trail Shoes!
These are my first pair of fitted Trail Running shoes. After a few miles of "breaking them in" I took off on a 4.5 mile trail run from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, down the Bright Angel Trail to Indian Garden. I then took the Old Bright Angel around to the Devil's Corkscrew and back up. These shoes did an excellent job on those trails, but were not meant to handle the OBA. While I would not generally recommend trail shoes for rugged and rocky terrain, these did well on the portion I ran. No hot spots, no blisters, no pain after 11+ Canyon miles!
Other have commented on the sizing of this shoe, and I agree. I normally wear a 12.5 in Asics, but that was too big. I returned it, and got the 12, which fits much better. The toe box is pretty loose, which doesn't bother me, but may bother others. Also, I alternate between these shoes, and the GT-2000 Trail Scout, which is also an excellent shoe.
