I'm 6'2" and weigh 275 lbs. Plus I have flat arches, overpronate and have a twitchy knee. Normally I wear the right shoe for the above characteristics...the Brooks Beast. But I like to branch out and am constantly on the lookout for other shoes that will serve for trails and broken terrain and wet Fall, Winter & Spring use. I have a pair of gore-tex trail shoes by North Face that do shockingly well. So while reviewing info I came upon these. There is apparently some level of motion control and the cushion is spectacular. That plus a good open toe box sold me. I use these for casual knock around wear and while working in my studio. For the low miles these incur being worn every other day on average, they provide adequate control and the cushion makes up for everything else. Find the shoes that have the arch design that fits your foot and never let 'em go. That and not wearing the same shoe every day are the keys for me. I rotate three pair of shoes depending on the season and even though my feet are a mess, they don't bother me at all.
Over a great trail shoe.
I used this shoe mainly at the gym and to run on hiking trains. The shoe has great cushioning and for a trail shoe its quite light. After a year of rugged use I'm quite shocked that this model continues to be in good shape and as of now the best trail shoe I have purchased from ASICS.
Great shoe for individuals with a high arch, is well cushioned and quite durable. Holds a good grip on trails and is quite conferrable to run in on paved road, trail or on a treadmill.
After only three days of use the shoe did develop a tear on the cushioned outside of the shoe. Although this is quite common for anyone who runes frequently but have never had a shoe tear so soon, but was not a major issue. The shoe laces are quite long on this model and the insoles on the shoe could be improved.
Over all: This is a great shoe. Anyone contemplating over their purchase I say give it a try, if you don't like it roadrunner has a great return policy but doubt you will return the shoe as its a good one.

Great shoe for more than just trail runs
This is a good shoe for short distance runs 3-5mi. Not just for trails either. These did just fine on road and concrete paths. I really like the fit around the heel and the extra cushion on hard surface runs. My only complaint would be the quick wear of the sole, but that's a good trade off for better ride and comfort in my book. Great for anyone battling shin splints or knee pain that can't get access to a good soft path. I wouldn't recommend them for fast pace walkers or heal strikers though. I put several walking miles on them at a Relay 4 Life walk and had to change to my Kayanos half way through the night due to heal movement when driving off. As for stablity and pronation control, I say these are great for the price. Not as good as my Kayano 18s, but almost half the price makes it worth the money for sure. Plus, these things just look cool... right?
5K All Day
These are a great shoe on rugged terrain that is either climbing or descending. I do not recommend them on flat, packed trails. I say this because of my last 100 mile ultra that was on flat, packed trails. I trained with these in agressive hills and they exceeded my expectations so I assumed they would be fine on the flats. I ended up with 13 blisters, some on top of others, and 3 lost toe nails. But if you take these on a 30 mile rugged and unforgiving run, your feet will thank you at the end. I did note they wear quickly, but that's only on paved surfaced. For the record, I am and avid ultrarunner of 50 and 100 mile races. Their next test is the Zion 100 in Utah!

After test driving several trail shoes, this was the winner. I tried to go more minimal because I like light shoes with a small heel to toe drop, but they just weren't working out for me. I tried this one since it had more support and I'm not disappointed. I was worried about the weight and the higher heel but after running a 10K right out of the box, I'm pretty happy with these. Good support without being too heavy. I just with Asics made a trail show more like the Gel Neo33, but these are about as close as I can get to them in a trail shoe.
Great Shoe. I wanted to try a trail shoe to run country roads and roads that are not very forgiving. They feel a little bit heavy and fit nice and snug, not tight. I did have a little problem with hot foot, (I am a forefoot striker) when I first started running in them. Once they broken in that did go away. I have also used them on an indoor track during inclement weather and the support seemed to help with the aches of the tight turns.
I don't usually buy the same shoe twice. I would considerate it with these shoes. Definitely worth the try for someone that is not certain about what shoe to try.
I would consider these to be great all around shoes, even though they're marketed as "trail shoes." They are light enough to be on the heavier side of road shoes (I don't run with minimalist shoes, so factor that into my comments). Soles are a little thin to be heavy duty, daily trail runners. But they are perfect for me....85% road, 15% trail. I would buy these again. Also, the insole is thick enough that you don't need to buy aftermarkets. I'll see how long they last. I've probably put about 30-40 miles on them so far.

Great trail shoe! I put over 24 miles on them the first 3 days I had them and walked 3 rounds of golf in them. I run in the Mojave desert and they did fantastic going up or down the rocky sandy trails. I needed to tighten the toe box a bit and use a heal lock lace up so my foot wouldn't push forward during some of the severe downhills, but that's not unique to this shoe. I'm an avid trail runner including ultra distances. I've been running in Asics since about 1977, they just fit me well. I wore Injini socks layered with Inov8 gaiters to keep rocks out.
I wanted to use these for work where I stand a lot but for some reason when I'm standing still these shoes are very uncomfortable and only sitting gets rid of that discomfort/pain. Walking on a flat surface is fine, but trail is bad because I can't find a sock that will keep my foot from slipping in the shoe. They do work well for leg workouts because of the cushioning they provide. My old Adidas Response 16's are far more comfortable and functional then these even though the soles are pretty worn.

Men's ASICS® GT-2000? Trail
The Asics GT-2000 is a good all-purpose trail running shoe. It has the comfort of the road version but also has a beefier sole and more room inside the shoe for the trail. It is more of a road shoe that can withstand trails as opposed to a hiking shoe that you can run in. It's perfect for a trail which has the occasional rocks and roots. If I was doing a 50k on rocky terrain, I might choose a shoe that has more structure. On a scale of 1 to 4 with road running shoes being 1 and hiking shoes being 4, I'd give this one a 2.

Good trail shoe
This is a great trail running shoe. ASICS never dissapoints, and the GT-2000 Trail is no different. These shoes are sturdy enough to trek through rocky terrain but light enough to keep me moving at top speed. I even wear these shoes out on normal days. Great purchase.
Just as Expected
I've been in Asics for more than 20 years now. And the fit is as good now as it has ever been. I have never had to break in Asics shoes and this pair is no different. I run/walk/hike about six miles or more each day and have never had a foot problem with Asics shoes. My aging right knee, however, is another story, but that isn't the fault of the shoes.
No such thing
A great all round running shoe
Best all rounder I have bought in a while.
The Asics last just fits me. Shoes wear great and provide amazing protection and support for the weight. Very Happy with them.
I literally tried on one pair of shoes and the salesman asked how do those feel? I said they feel sold. :-)

Nice and comfy
I actually wear these for work...as a general contractor. Obviously they are for light days, but it's nice to be able to wear comfortable running shoes as opposed to work boots. I like the way they look and feel. 'I'm walking on sunshine' tends to be the song that resonates!
Nice shoe. Would recommend.
Great fit and nice trail performance. I wear Kayanos for my regular running shoe. I prefer stability plus for the cushioning (200 lbs) but these work well for runs and hikes of an hour or two. Very comfortable over rocks and roots. Have a light feel. Maybe just a bit more snug than Kayanos. Will buy again.
They work great for me
I really like these shoes. I just started running again after 20 years, and I love how the technology has changed. These are lite as a feather, and super padded on the soles. My ankles do NOT hurt after a good long run, and it's all because of the shoes.
I like Asics products and needed to purchase a trail shoe. I already have the GT 2000 running shoe but needed more stability for trails and for lateral movement. I tried this shoe and purchased a second set to have in reserve

Sending these back. They are much different from the GT-2170s. The toebox and lacing doesn't provide enough room. I finally gave in on a long run when my feet so bad I had to stop.

Solid Asics shoe
GT 2160 user trying the trail shoe. Feels a touch higher off ground which caused stability concern, but have had no problem so far. Pleased with the shoe.
New Canaan, CT
Asia's has always provided a great shoe. This one is no different. I'll put to the test during my trail runs in Sedona next month.
Out of the box comfort
These shoes felt great out of the box. Great comfort and support during my trail runs. Good traction as well. Would definitely buy again.

Love my trail shoes!
I am a difficult person to fit and year after year the ASICS shoes reliable in the comfort, performance, and fit.
Palmer Lake, CO
Lives up to billing
I'm happy with the toe protection. It was very painful when I kicked a root or rock with my previous shoes
Will definitley buy again
Nice trail shoe ....handles the woods here in Maine without a problem...good traction
Great shoe with lots of support
I use them for mostly walking. They have great support with a very comfortable feel.
Ready to hit the Trail
Bought a 2nd pair 1 size larger to find the best compromise on available sizing.
New Tri Guy
Good everyday shoe for my son, but would be a solid trail shoe as well.
St. Louis, MO
Two runs weekly on trails of sandy mix with hills around the Southwest Michigan parks!
Provided great support, cushion, grip and stability.
