Most comfortable Kinsei yet, but with a fatal flaw...
Concur with what the earlier reviewers have said. I'm a longtime Kinsei loyalist and absolutely loved the 3 and 4. I think I have 5 pairs of the 4's since they are my go-to shoe. Saw a deal I couldn't pass up on the 5 a couple of months back. Gorgeous shoe and probably the most comfortable Asics shoe I've ever worn. Was a little skeptical about the printed upper and lack of stitching, never felt as stable or able to lock foot in like the earlier models, so I mainly relegated these to gym and casual use. Occasional treadmill and elliptical use but no outdoor running or racing on these. After less than two months in my rotation (so I've worn the shoes maybe 15 times) the upper is splitting in between the diamond prints. For what this shoe costs, this is highly disappointing and for that they are being returned.

Replaced Gel Nimbus 14 with Gel Kinsei 5 as it is a few ounces lighter and the reviews of the Kinsei 4 mentioned good cushioning, and the 5 ought to be better. I'm less than 170 lbs, so there ought to be sufficient cushioning in the 50 miles a week I put on them. I've had them a couple of weeks, so these are my initial impressions. The good news is they fit snugly and do not irritate the top of my feet. The tongue is well padded and the seamless upper is very nice. There is plenty of toe room. The heel is well padded. The questionable news is that I can feel the waffle material midsole, as my foot transitions from heel to toe, with the standard insoles that come out of the box. It is not enough to cause any major problems (so far), but it is annoying, as the Nimbus didn't suffer from this. I may have to upgrade the insoles with some inserts.
Best shoes I've ever run in, but...
The Kinsei 5 are the best shoes I've ever run in and I've been running for over 35 years and have run in ASICS for as long as I can remember. I never thought about my feet while running in these shoes. Isn't that the way we want to feel? However, after 200 miles the material in the forefoot of the shoe starts to break down and tears start to form in the top toe area and insole area of each shoe. Unfortunately, the material in the front of the shoe is not strong enough to hold up to 25-30 miles/week of road and trail miles. I returned the shoes as they did not meet my standards for such an expensive shoe. Hoping for improvements in following versions, as I really liked these shoes. They just are not durable enough for the cost.

Great but short lived
Couple of the other reviewers nailed it... Great shoe, great feel, lighter than its earlier versions and more comfortable in my opinion. I have a PF in the left foot and struggle with runners knee on the right side and these help allow me to keep up 50+ mile weeks. Downside is the material in the top of forefoot & toes just doesnt hold up, making these shoes very expensive per mile and with tears forming, you cant retire them to casual wear or yard work after.
Poor toe mesh
I have only had these approx 3 months and I run around 3-5 times a wk. The mess across the toe is very comfortable and breathable, but has already ripped in several places. I wish I had listened to the reviews and gone with a more durable shoe. Or maybe Asics could fix the problem, bc these are great running shoes
almost new Kinsei 5 falling apart
I Love the look and fit! After only a few months, material over toe area is splitting and breaking apart, very sad because I love them. They need to replace the toe material to be more durable, otherwise love running in them.
Favorite Kinsei so far...
I've worn every Kinsei since they were introduced and whenever I buy another shoe trying to save a few bucks, I end up with some issue. I run 50-60 a week on hard surfaces. I appreciate the seamless upper on this edition.
Mid-Life - Mid Pack
Good cushion with weak seams
for the price the upper shoe should have more durable material and stitching. The cushioning
is great for my plantar fasciitis.Gel Kayano is more durable and cheaper.

Great heal cushining, a little clunky.
I looked for the shoe with the best heal cushioning as my achilles and plantar fascia were causing me great pain. These shoes have helped a great deal.
Love the Gel-Kinsei line of shoes and the 5 went right on and out I went. Great running shoe.
Best Running Shoe Ever!
Like Running on Air!
Love the Great Color, Blue!
I Run six days a week.
North Palm Beach, Florida
the design, although lighter, feels more flimsy...less support
Not happy...prefer the Kinsei 4
Good for my knees
My 57 year old knees have given me less trouble since I acquired these shoes.
