Best Uses I purchased Asics 2000 2 trail and 3 trail shoes in October. I alternated shoes for each run. I run roughly 3 times / 10 miles per week on dirt trails. I am 6 foot 200lbs and I notice a big difference between the 2 trail and 3 trail. I exclusively run in Asics, mostly GT 2100 series for road running and these were my first trail shoes. The 2 trail feels very comfortable like my road shoes, a similar fit. The 3 trail, the design is different, where the heel meets to sole is very narrow which creates more rocking in the ankle. On uneven trails I was prone to roll my ankle more easily than with the 3 trail, which has broader stability where the heel meets the sole. I tend to pronate when I run and the 3 trail did not support my running style, in fact it made my bad habits worse. Although I wanted to like the 3 trail as much as the 2 trail, I eventually gave up because I did not want to get hurt from the instability. I am a fan of Asics, just not this shoe for my running style.
Pros Cons Best Uses This shoe was almost perfect except for how the upper fit my foot. I loved the color, cushion, stability, everything. Took them home and after 3 runs realized I spent all my time criticizing and justifying the fit. The upper overlays just rubbed my foot wrong. Probably just my foot shape, 5'9", 175lbs, size 10, but had to get a 10.5 in these and they were still too narrow. Primary use is ultras, so bad fit had me concerned. Took them back and very happy with that choice.
