    Comments about Mens ASICS GEL-Kahana 5 Trail Running Shoe:

    I run 12-15 miles per week but bought this as my primary everyday shoe for work, play and an occasional midweek run.
    I'm 5'10" and fluctuate between 178-184 lbs., so I am on the upper end of the weight for these shoes, per the Shoe Dog. I also have a high arch, but opted for this Stability shoe rather than the normal Neutral recommendation. I was skeptical on how the support would be for my arch, but had a good experience with my last pair of Asics and found the arch support in these to be just as good and comfortable for my high arch. The cushioning is also quite good for everyday use, but I will follow-up with a review after a few runs for those who may want to know. The soles have Excellent traction, but I must say that they are a bit stiffer than I imagined they would be. This may be a common characteristic of trail shoes (or perhaps Stability shoes, I'm not sure) of which this is my first pair. I suppose you wouldn't want to feel some of the rocky terrain you would normally run in this shoe, and a softer sole would get beat up rather quickly. Even still, they are comfortable for daily wear and I'm sure I will really appreciate them after a trail run.
    Unlike my previous Asics, the stripe design/logo of these is actually rubber and locks down the top of the foot which keeps the shoe snug and your foot in place. This is great for when I'm coaching t-ball and running around a field, and probably on trail, but I imagine that on a standard, straight, road-run they would start to feel a little too snug and you would have to plan ahead by not lacing as tight as normal. These shoes are also a bit warmer than my normal running shoes, but I suppose the ventilation is designed so to minimize the amount of dirt in your shoe at the end of a trail run, thus being a bit warmer.
    I wear a 10.5 dress/casual shoe and got these in an 11 which is perfect, with a full thumb width of room up front. (Make sure you have enough room to avoid the Black Toe Nail of Doom, a thumb width does it for me).

      I bought these shoes for my fiance, who is 6'7", 230lbs. Not only does he love them, but he says he has never had a shoe feel this good before. He also ran his best time, and farthest distance with this shoe. Absolutely great shoe!
