I have been through more motion control shoes than I care to admit! I have tried all of them, Asics, Saucony, Mizuno, New Balance, etc...not one pair live up to the Beast.
I am 5'7" and 170lbs so I am not the typical guy to be found in these shoes. My issue is that I have pancake flat feet, not even the slightest hint of an arch. I run about 5 miles a day and have suffered through knee injuries and constant shin splints. I had always shyed away from the Beast due to the weight and misconception that they were for big, heavier runners. I started with the Beast 9 and no shin splints, no knee pain, etc...the 10's were not good! The 10's were super heavy, felt very stiff and seemed to lack the cushioning that the 9's had.
I bought the 11's a couple months ago and let me say that Brooks really outdid themselves with this shoe!! They are by far the best Beast that I have tried to date. They fit great, required barely any break in time, cushioning is incredible and the support is perfect. If you are on the fence about the Beast let me push you off of it.....buy them now! Your feet, ankles and knees will be thanking you!

I'm 5'10 and 215lbs. I run every other day and my mileage varies from day to day but equals out to 20-25 miles a week. I've struggled for most of my military career to find a pr of shoes that do not cause knee or feet pain. My Commander recommended the Beast! I bought a pr and have never looked back. No pain whatsoever and I've been buying 2 pairs a year since 2004-2005. I have gotten other people to buy them too. These are worth the 100+ dollars to be able to not have to take time off from running and popping Ibuprofen. I hope Brooks will continue producing the Beast because I am a lifetime customer.

I have flat feet and a short achillles tendon. This is the only shoe I have found that works 110% for me. I am 210lbs and have been told not to run long distances since I was 10. This year I have run a marathon, 3 halfs, and 4 10ks.

My second pair of Brooks Beast and I am hooked on this brand. Most comfortable shoes for my flat feet! I can run over an hour in these shoes and have no feet,knee,or hip pain. Great cushioning and pronation control. This years model is not bad looking either for a motion control shoe.

This is my 9th pair of beasts and I can say that they truly are the best shoes ever! They are very well made and fit like a dream. When you run it feels like your running on a cloud! A must own!

I have tried several motion control shoes over the past several years and finally found this version of the Beast to be the best one yet. I run 4 times a week training for a marathon and these shoes have worked wonders on my knees and hips so far. I hope they don't tinker too much with this design and I will continue to buy them.

I have Plantar Fasciitis, due to my extremely large and flat feet( size 14). Till this point I have exclusively worn high end New Balance Basketball shoes since I use custom orthotics and the mid/high top allows enough room to place the thick insole in the shoe without raising your foot's CG too high out of the shoe. The beast does accept orthotics failry well for a running shoe. It will prob. be plenty supportive for 90% of people with the stock sockliners as they are very good, but with my PF and high activity level I needed the orthotics still. [$] is a little pricey, but extra manufacturing steps of this particular shoe can help justify it (stability web, etc). If you have flat feet I recomend at least trying these on, they are solid. If weight is more of an issue than foot pain then don't go with these, but if you are buying these then your prob. not an olympic athlete and an extra couple ounces isn't going to be too noticable in your times.

As a 200lb guy who loves Ironman distance racing, I had a real hard time finding the right shoe....that is until I found the Beast. The interior is supple and comfortable, regardless of the distance, and the cushioning is perfect for my heel-strike running style. I'm big. The Beast line has always been there for me to allow me to run...even when I was at my heaviest (275 lbs). I'm currently down to 235, the Beast has allowed me to quickly pick up distance, frequency, and speed due to its close fit, cushioning, and motion control. I've found that the catalog description of the size is inaccurate...I think they fit true. I've got a full size 13 foot, and I wear them with thick padded Thorlo running socks. Even though it may not occur to you, your feet get bigger when you're fat. When I was at my fattest they still fit without squeezing my toes. I've tried other "shoes for big guys," but gave up trying after a few years. If you like the New Balance fit, you may not like the Beast. I've always found that NBs are too boxy. The fit of the beast is more form-fitting. I feel that the Beast absorbs shock better than the NB, too...which is why I've stuck with the Beast.

I always wear the Beast. The 9's were great, the 10's a complete disaster. I ran 12 miles in the 11's right out of the box--------FANTASTIC !!!!

Know, first of all, that shoe reviews/recommendations are purely subjective. YMMV. I've been running in Brooks Beast for quite a while now. I have worn out pairs of Beast 9s and 10s. I was out on a 7 mile run when I noticed that my feet, ankles and shins seemed to be taking a pounding. When I finished, I looked back and saw that I was due for new shoes (no surprise!). The Beast 11s came soon thereafter and I've been running in them for 2 weeks. I find them to be a nice upgrade from the 10. They feel lighter and not quite as squishy. I have a pair of Addiction 9s and the Beast 11 is not as firm as that, but definitely more firm than the 9 and 10. Great support, as always. The sizing hasn't changed in years, so no problems there. Some say they're "too heavy", but if you're a "big" runner with flat feet, do a couple of ounces really matter? My only wish is that the black would come in wider sizes...I've got too many blue pair around the house!

I love this shoe! My feet used to hurt along with my shins, knees and ankles would throb after running in my old shoes (Nike). I'm a big guy 6ft, 255lbs after losing 65 lbs But after my first run in these shoes, I noticed a big difference; No more shin splints or aching knees. I highly recommend this shoe.

If you're a big guy, this is the ONLY shoe. I've tried them all!! I'm 6'2" and 260lbs, run 4-5 miles a day, 6-7 days a week. Comfortable, good pronation control and not as heavy as you might think. Not going to win any fashion shows!!!

Best motion control running shoes hands down! I own Evolution 6's, NB 1012 and 1123 and they all fall short for true pronation control. Best shoe purchase to date!

Good shoe except that the toe box is still too pointy for me. My big toe rubs on the side. I wear a size 13 so I can't size up another 1/2 size. Size 14 is just too large for me. Besides that the shoe seems to be a good shoe. I wear the new Asics Evol 6 which has a rounder toe box and like the fit much more.

A great shoe for the heavy runner or walker. I have owned 20+ pairs of the Beast and they provide excellent cushon and support for my 270 pound frame. They are expensive and wear out quicker than I would like but I still love the shoe.

2 years ago my low arches side lined me with severe shin splints. The Beast helped stabalize my foot allowing me to up my miles. No shin issues and 2 half marathons under my belt in the last year. Thanks to Brooks for making a great product.

Only minor drawback is they are a little on the heavy side but not a deal breaker.

I run between 25-30 miles per week.

The Beast is a very stable platform for walking and running, particularly if you have matured beyond the competitive running age. The shoe is very comfortable and offers outstanding support and stability. I haven't owned any other shoe since I found them after back surgery in 1997.
