The Green Silence was so comfortable - from the moment I put them on - that I hardly noticed them at all. I liked them so much that I bought a second pair in different colors.

I've been slowly moving to a more minimalist approach. Many years of heel striking combined with flat feet have led to anterior tibial tendinitis. The Silence is flexible enough to allow mid-foot striking with enough cushioning for protection.

I've tried the Saucony ProGrid Kinvara, Saucony Grid Type A4, and Newton Sir Isaac. The Grid Type A4 didn't offer enough cushion. The Kinvera poked against my arches. The Newton felt good for one run of 6 miles and nearly crippled me the second run that I took with it. The lug pressed against the ball of my feet until the 4th mile and I found I couldn't continue anymore.

I'm really very happy with the Silence.

After going through 5 pairs of Newtons and being devoted to them, I wanted to find an alternative minimalist neutral performance shoe that i could train and race with, but it was difficult. I had used mainly Newton Distance, but also like the older red model Newton Gravity & VFF Bikila for cool downs or 'fun' runs to get back to form or fun running over grass. I use yankz stretch laces with all my shoes.

I did test runs in all mizuno neutral shoes including precision. The waverider is a great trainer but too heavy. Kswiss blade runs had a slightly narrow toe box. Asics, nikes, & sauconys never fit me well for one reason or another.

The Green Silence fit very well and the true asymmetrical lacing allows great fine tuning fit. The shoes have a low heel to allow a flat mid-foot strike. Flexibility is there to allow the foot to strike the way you want it to, and that also means not a lot of stability which i like but requires you to have good running balance and form. For example if you stand on one leg, you can tilt your foot from side to side, when leaning back and forth left to right. The upper design is excellent with its no-tongue wrapover design that uses few pieces of material that are thin breathable and highly flexible for a socklike feel. Ive liked these in doing intervals, tempos, and long runs (but gone up to only 16 miles in them). theyve replaced my Newtons for now. I did a 10k race in them yesterday sockless. I'll be wearing them for a 5k race in Palos Verdes next week and as as I BQ at the Long Beach Marathon in 2 weeks - such is their range. Overall, impressive blend of lightness, comfort, fit, and performance.

I BOUGHT THIS SHOE BECAUSE IT WAS "GREEN" AND A LIGHT WEIGHT SHOE AND I WANTED TO TRY IT OUT.. IT HAS BEEN A GOOD PRODUCT.. HELD UP BETTER THAN I THOUGHT.. I WORK OUT IN THIS SHOE 3 DAYS A WEEK LIGHT WORKOUTS AND SHORT RUNS.. NOT SURE IF I WOULD GO LONG RUNS IN THEM..

I use the Green Silence as a lightweight trainer and racer. I am currently racing half to full marathons and find the Green Silence comfortable enough for races at those distances.

It is surprisingly cushioned for the weight, which is a nice feature for longer runs.

The asymmetric lacing is really nice as it makes the shoe upper "hug" your feet for a frictionless fit.

The bottom line is that these shoes are very light and very fast.

If you are looking for a good racer, whether you have developed an environmental ethic or not, these shoes fit the description!

Just finished my first 1/2 marathon in these shoes and loved them. I normally wear the BROOKS launch or ST4 for training and decided to pick up a pair of the Green Silence for a 1/2 marathon. Perfect Choice! Im thinking about trying these in my next Marathon. Provide the perfect amount of cushioning and support tin an ultra light shoe.

I am a forefoot striker who can run in about any shoe out there. I like the way this shoe helps facilitate the correct foot strike. Have worn it for up to 10 miles and didn't need the breaking in period many people recommend for these types of shoes (but as I said, I have always been a forefoot striker). I am a little concerned about the issue of wear after having them for about a month. But I believe it's a great, lightweight option for mostly road runners.

I like these shoes a lot. I've recently gotten back into running, and I've been transitioning to more minimal shoes. In the summer time, I wear the VFF Bikila LS a lot and my main trainer was the Brooks Ghost. Once I wore those out, I found the Green Silence. I had been looking at the Pure series, but these shoes are essentially just like the Pure (only cheaper 'cause they're on sale!).
The shoe is lightweight and feels fast. In terms of sizing, some reviews said to order a 1/2 size different. However, I wear a size 11 in the Brooks Ghost and the 11 is great for the Green Silence. As far as durability goes, so far so good. I'm about 150 miles in and they still seem ok.

Have mostly shelved my 3rd and 4th pairs of Green Silence, when I decided to resurrect my 2nd pair, to see how many miles I put get on them! Nearing 950, aiming for 1000! Admittedly, I try to run more on my toes, could not do this with heal-striking. Would like to go barefoot, but like protection from stones, sticks, etc. (and cold Michigan winters!). Included a 50-mile trail run last summer in these. Would recommend for any wanting to "run light".

This is an update from my original review of this shoe. On my third pair, not because of wear out, but because these have now become my favorite shoe for road running.
I love these shoes, super light, fast drying, no support, and just enough cushioning for long runs. Just did my 1st Half Marathon, and there was like zero problem going the 13 miles in these. My feet felt no pain and could have gone further. Still hanging onto my VFFs for grass/gym and foot strengthing though. I highly recommend these!!

Just like other reviews say - this shoe is super light and very breathable, yet still offers enough cushioning for some real running. Day 1 I took them out and ran 4 miles pretty fast and they were great. Day 2 I ran 11 miles and they were even better! They seem to have absolutely no break-in period. My only potential question would be to their durability but even if they break down fairly quickly I have trouble imagining a much better shoe.

I bought one pair and was stunned at how light weight, comfortable and snug these shoes felt. They were exciting to wear. They made running fun again. The innovative tongue seemed right, too.

I wanted to transition into forefoot running, having worn heavy, heel padded, motion controlled shoes for years. These shoes were just the ticket for a change. So I bought a second pair and put them in the closet for when the first pair wore out. However, since I am now running lighter, more forefoot striking, these shoes are lasting longer than I thought they would. I have been wearing them for more than 6 months and they show little signs of wear. They are great shoes

I was running about 10 miles per run 3-4X a week. Loving the Five Fingers but was starting to get hot spots on my feet. Read some reviews about the Green Silences and decided to try them out. Has to be one of my best decisions. Super comfortable, feels like I'm still wearing the Vibrams but running in grass. Still doing to 10 mile runs and ready for a Half Marathon in these shoes. On Road Runner now to buy a second pair.

I'm a triathlete that has adopted a minimalist approach to running over the past three years. I've tried VFFs, Nike flats and 2 pairs of Newtons. For a midfoot striking shoe with enough cushioning for any distance training or racing, look no further than the Green Silence. After trying these against the Kinvara, I have to say this is a superior shoe in terms of fit, weight and ride. Although the GS has a little higher heel drop, it rides very flat. I'm currently logging about 30 miles a week in mine, and I'm getting no significant visible wear on the sole yet. If I had to nitpick a fault, I'd say the tongue design is a little slower to use with speedlaces during bike to run transition. At a fraction of what my Newtons cost, I feel I'm gettign a superior/lighter shoe at nearly half the price when on sale here on RRS. Point of interest: Scott Jurek chose these for a 24 hour/ 168 mile ultra.

This is my second pair of minimalist shoes after getting a pair of vibram five fingers in January. I use these for my speed workouts and racing. I haven't raced in the five fingers yet. I have no complaints at all. They're very cushy and fit like a sock. The only thing is im not sure how durable they'll be. It looks like the insole will eventually break through the shoes upper since the arch portion hangs over the sole slightly. Only time will tell. If they do start to break down prematurely i'll write a follow up review. I've run about 200 miles in them so far and they're fine.

Really nice shoe. I had been using the Launch for about a year and wanted to try something lighter and faster. The Green Silence did great. After a few miles in the shoe I ran a 5 min Half Marathon PR. Shoe felt great the whole time. Had some ankle and calf soreness but that is to be expected. Shoe feels faster under foot and forces you off the heel more so that other shoes. This is "more" shoe than the Brooks T7 or the Asics Hyperspeed. Overall a very good shoe for races, speedwork, etc.

I run marathons and ultras, a lot of trail, and hills. This is the best shoe I have ever run in - and I have run in a lot of shoes over the years. I am quite convinced that the average running shoe is grossly overengineered and a detriment to the body. While these aer minimal they still provide plenty of cushion. Fine for mild/hardpack trails, but not for super rocky trails; not so great in muddy conditions - but wouldn't have expected them to be. (Is there a trail Green Silence in the works? Please!)

Most comfortable running shoe I have ever worn. Light weight, fast, and the heel never gets in the way. Almost feels like there is nothing on the foot, but have had no problems with lack of cushioning either. I have problems with tightness and rubbing along the side of the foot in almost every running shoe I wear, but no problems at all with this shoe.
