I moved to the 12's in January 2013 after I set a 5 mile race PR in my Trance 11's and officially retired them. At first, I didn't like the 12's. I felt like they were heavier than the 11's and it felt like I was running in shoe boxes rather than shoes. After 25 miles, I nixed them for the Brooks Adrenaline 13's. I wound up training in the GTS 13's for 3 months for a half marathon and 10 mile road race. Once I started getting into longer runs of 8-13 miles, my feet were hurting a lot. It hit me that my feet were missing the extra cushioning aka "running on clouds." I recently brought the Trance 12s back into the mix and my feet couldn't be happier. I rotate them with my Adrenalines during the week and only use my trance 12's on my weekend long run.
I do need to wear arch inserts because I am a high arched runner that pronates mildly on my left foot. Other than that, the "heavy" feeling is starting to go away as I rack up the miles and my foot pain has stopped. My only wish is that Brooks would vamp up the colors (like what the Glycerin 11's look like!) Maybe the 13's will be bright, snazzy colors!
Finally a jogging shoe for me!!
After several different purchases from Road Runner, I finally found my favorite jogging shoe. I agree with the other reviewer who had to go up one whole size, rather than a usual 1/2. I went up only a 1/2 and prefer it that way, but my toes are very close. In comparison, the ASICS Gel Kayano 19 and 20s have at least a full thumb length more, which was too long for me. The arch support is excellent and holds true under the forefoot/toes, which has been hard to find. Only caution is this foot feels narrower than any I've tried. I don't believe I could wear an insert unless I did go up a whole size rather than a 1/2. I have an average arch and fairly narrow foot and still the shoes were very fitted. Worked perfect for me. I am a beginning jogger 3 days a week and walk about 3-4 miles per day also. I purchased the purple/yellow/white and can't wait to get the pk/black also when the time comes!!
I wanted to wait awhile before writing this review on my favorite brooks line;), just to be sure they didn't accidentally ruin them with their "updates". Well, 1.5 months and 2 half marathons later, I think it's safe to say this is STILL my go-to shoe! It took a couple of weeks to adjust to the new Trance 12, as I continued to rotate them with the trance 11, but I didn't need to break them in or anything. I just couldn't figure out if I liked them or not because they felt so different from the trance 11! And so the story goes.......I fell in love. They're much lighter and allow my feet to breathe better than the previous model. I love the rounded toe box too (which may make them seem "smaller" to some people). I ordered my regular size and as always, I had no issues running 9 miles in them the first day :).

lightweight but too narrow/short
I went in to replace my worn-out Saucony Hurricanes and the employee at the running store strongly recommended I try these shoes. When first trying them on, they felt great. Very lightweight and cushiony. But when I ran in them, the issues arose. I felt as if the shoe was trying to overcorrect my normal pronation, and putting a lot of pressure on the upper-outside of my feet which felt raw during/after running. In addition, this threw off the arch support that my high arches need. The overcorrection also gave me knee pain. The shoe feels too narrow for my larger-than-average feet. When doing lunges, my big toes were scrunched against the front of the shoe, so it also feels as if these shoes may run a half size too small. I gave these shoes the good college try, but ended up returning them and going back to the Hurricanes. I guess Brooks shoes just don't like me (the Adrenaline gave me shin splints).

I have a hard foot to fit. I don't have great arches, but I'm not flat-footed either. Also, I have sensitive feet. Many shoes irritate my feet or ankles. I always feel sorry for the shoe salesperson that has to go through all my trials and errors. However, these shoes work for me. I used to run, but at 67 I mostly walk 3 miles, 5 x's a week and use the gym for weight training. I think these shoes would be good for running, if I could still run. I came off of a New Balance shoe and it was terrible. It made my feet rotate outward. The new shoes just hold my feet in great alignment. My only negative, is that for me the shoe runs just a wee bit narrow...but not so much that it hurts...and I think a larger size would have been way too large.
Trance changes for the worse
I've been running in Brooks since the 1970s. The Vantage used to be so great. Then the company deteriorated. Then the company came back. Then there was the Trance...okay!!! It felt kind of like the Vantage Supreme on the road. Now, every year, the Trance gets a little worse..unnecessary fitting modifications, narrowing toe box, sleezy materials beginning to return.less cushioning on roads, etc. . I ran marathons during the 70s and 80s, then 10k distances. Now I still run every day, shorter distances. I count on Brooks to keep me going...I am really disappointed in this shoe. And it is EXPENSIVE! Less glitz and a better shoe, Brooks! I am still digging out my old Vantage Supremes because the Trance is going downhill.
Awesome shoe for long distances!
This is a great shoe if you need a wider toe box and/or if you have custom orthodics (because of the flat sole once you remove the generic orthoidic that it comes with). In other shoes, as soon as I'd get into higher miles (i.e. 30+), I would start to get aches, pains, blisters, and lots of general discomfort. I switched to Brooks last summer and have since run two marathons, many half marathons, and am training for two more marathons. I'm currently running 40-45 miles a week and my feet, knees, and hips feel great! I ran in the Brooks Trance 11 and they were nice, but I think the 12s offer a better fit and a bit more cushioning for a more comfortable ride.
I have never written a shoe review but had to for these.I am a marathon runner and have put put in a lot of miles over the past 13 years and 30+ marathons. I have orthotics and pronation issues, and the right shoes make all the difference for me. . I've worn Saucony Hurricaines for years, switched (back to) the Asics Gel Kayano, and then found the Brooks Trance 12. I am so, so happy with them. They are stable, well cushioned, light, and nice looking. Whoever figured how how to keep the tongue of the shoe from sliding to the side should get an award. If they were offered in a wide, I might try that option, but my wide feet do fine with thin socks. I have found my match. Brooks, please don't change them!

I use the shoes for road running. I run half-marathons and train 35-45 miles per week, primarily on roads, occasionally on trails. Sometimes I go hiking on trails, too. Since I started wearing this shoe (a couple years ago), I haven't had shin splints. I used to wear a different shoe, but I constantly had shin splints. I had no idea they were due to the shoe I was wearing until I decided to try the Trance and my shin splints were gone after about 2 weeks. The only thing I don't like about them is that my feet get sweaty when I run.
I have been a Asics person for the past five year but had Brooks before that. I decided to give the Trance a try. When trying them on in the store I thought they felt a bit too big but when running in them I love them! Comfortable, light, and supportive. In my Asics some of my toenails were beginning to get bruised and fall off (sorry gross I know) but in my Trance Brooks all toe nails are accounted for and normal looking!
I am training for a half marathon, so I average around 20 miles a week. These are great shoes for people who need stability and arch support!

Narrow(er) toe box vs. Trance 10
I started running with the Trance 10s 3 years ago and loved them. When it was time for a replacement I tried the Trance 11s which had a more narrow toe box, making them uncomfortable for me. I had hopes the Trance 12s would be wider but not so. I had to return these after a 2 mile run left my forefoot sore and squished. The cushioning was great, as was the flexibility of the upper materials. If you're looking for a replacement for the Trance 10s, keep looking.
First let's start with the aesthetic: on my monitor, it appears more watermelon tone, but the trim is indeed hot pink and they look great.
I decided to try the Trance 12 as I was dissatisfied that Nike was no longer carrying the Equalon, and their new Lunar Eclipse line had sub par durability.
These shoes fit and feel fabulous. Great cushioning, nice wide sole, and adequate arch support (I have normal arches). Had them for a few weeks and the tread is holding up good. I'll buy this again!

These shoes are awesome!
I don't know if I am an avid athlete but I run 3-4 times a week. I have been searching for a good cushioned stability shoe as I am a little heavier and pronate slightly. I have tried and had to send back several pairs but these are just perfect for me. Perfect amount of space in toe box, perfect amount of cushion and no rubbing against my foot to cause blisters. I am so happy with these and the fact that they are kind of cute is a plus.
They do not disappoint!
Struggling with bursitis in tailor's bunion, plantar fascitis, and pronation issues.
These shoes were the cadillac of the choices, but knew my feet were worth it.
They did not disappoint! Springy, supportive, and oh so comfortable...right out of the box. Walked for miles on day one, and did not have a single issue.
They are good looking, and cute too.
Looking forward to getting back into running with them.
I love my new shoes! It is sometimes difficult to order shoes online especially if new to the brand, but these have turned out to be a great fit and have a short break-in time. I was wearing a stability New Balance shoe that really needed to be replaced, I am happy that I went with Brooks. I mostly walk/run and cross train, indoor/outdoor. I also like the black shoe, even for a supportive, stability shoe, it does not look and feel "clunky" and heavy.
Love this shoe
I began running last year when I started getting sore knees and back, due to my overpronouncation. I went to a shoe store to get fitted (with my shoe dog list in hand so I could compare) and Brooks Trance is what they fitted me with. I came home and ordered them. I ran the rest of the year injury free. I love these shoes. I am on my second pair this year, running 20 miles+ with them a week.

THE Best shoe ever made!
I LOVE these shoes! I had to try out 3 different pairs of shoes before I found this perfect shoe. I've put 230 miles on these and would love to get another pair. Brooks PLEASE continue to make the TRANCE shoes!!!!!!!!! I've tried other Brooks "stability plus" category shoes and they just don't compare to TRANCE,with regards to stability and support. Bring back the TRANCE!
I am in love with the Brooks Trance 12! After running in the Asics GT 2000 for a few years, and loving those, I decided to try out Brooks! I am so so glad I made the switch! The quality of the shoe is phenomenal! I run about 15-20 miles a week, and my feet never hurt or feel tired after a run! I have never written a review for a product, but these shoes are just so wonderful that I had to this time!!!
Great Running Shoe!
These shoes are awesome! I ran with them right out of the box and needed no break-in time. I have flat feet and the arch support is rather good. The shoes are breathable and lightweight. They hold the rear of my foot stable without being too controlling. The color is cool and the overall performance of the shoe is excellent. I will defianetly be buying another pair!
Light but stable
Fits well. Moulded to foot, light to lift, but there when you land. Well done. Had been fitted with Trance 10, and loved them. Store had moved me up to a 9 from my usual size of 8 1/2. Couldn't wear the 11, tried a 9 in the 12 and it was too big. Looked at the Brooks site, they said if wearing the trance 10, in a 9, an 8 1/2 would fit. AND IT DID.
I'M IN LOVE!
I am the captain of my high school cross team and we have a pretty rigorous training routine. THese shoes are AMAZING! I have issues with my shins and my quads and these shoes helped me with those immensely. My problems basically solved themselves because these shoes were so supportive and really kept my arches supported.
Shoes work for my plantar fasciitis
I walk/run every other day for 30 mins for exercise. I work on concrete- standing and walking 8 hours 5 days a week. I walk at least 25 miles a week at work and these shoes help lessen my plantar fasciitis pain. I have to buy a new pair every 3 months because my feet start to get sore, that's the only bummer about these shoes.
Lovin' this shoe
Two weeks into this new Trance 12 and couldn't be happier. I walk about 50 miles a week and the feet are feeling the best ever. Loved my Trance 10's...couldn't do the Trance 11's so I down graded to an Adrenaline (disappointed). The 12 provides the best cushioning yet. Go for it! Already recommended to a friend and she loves them too!
Lake Forest, Ca
The perfect shoe for me.
I work out at the gym and love how this shoe feels with my inserts. I have a high arch so the only thing that could make this shoe better is a little more arch support. I have hip and ankle issues and the first time I put these shoes on with the inserts all the ankle pain went away. As a result my hip problem is improved.

best shoe ever!!!
This shoe is amazing. After 4 knee surgeries my legs and knees were extremely fragile. I have tried countless shoes. I worked out in the adrenalines which were extremely great for support but definitely not enough cushioning. I put these shoes on and omg! Best brooks shoe ever!! Even had to by amother pair.
I bought these because I was having problems with the Gel Kayano 19's and knee pain. These shoes are pretty good stability shoes but I did get some inserts for them because they're pretty stiff. I run 45-50 mpw on paved surfaces and some all-weather track so we'll see if they hold up as I've only been in them for a week.
Brooks Trance 12
The Brooks Trance 12 is a great training/race day shoe for longer distances. I use this shoe to run half marathons and long training runs because of the plush comfort and great stability that this shoe provides. I also have several pairs of Asics, but my Brooks is by far the most comfortable shoes for longer duration runs.
Runner Girl 27
I am training for my first half marathon in September and needed new running shoes with great stability and comfort and this shoe is perfect! What a difference it's made in my comfort while running and how my legs and feet feel after. LOVE them!
This is a great shoe. Had the last edition of trances and really enjoyed them. It holds my feet in place with comfort. Other than the Barney the dinosaur colors, I like the reflective tape. You can definitely see my feet with these shoes on.

Great cross training shoe
I have a lot of I.T. Issues and knee problems but this shoe has really helped me to train without further injury.
I feel these shoes give me stability and I can wear them for a variety of sports.
I use them with orthotic inserts.
