Reviewed by 1 customer Displaying review 1  I have worn all of the versions of the Brooks Pureflows. They just keep getting better. These have a very low heel to toe drop, so they work best for those who have a midfoot strike (which I do). I believe they are pretty well cushioned given the fact that they are not considered a cushioned shoe. I have noticed that I like to retire them by about 350 miles, though. My legs just start getting tired after runs in them at that point. It could be due to my relatively high mileage (35 - 40 miles per week) and my age (45), but it seems as though the shoe support structure just breaks down at that point. These shoes are signficantly less expensive than more cushioned shoes that can last for more miles, so it probably all comes out in the wash. My only complaint about the shoe is that it is a bit loose in the heel area. I have narrow-ish feet with very high arches and I use orthotics, so maybe that is part of the problem. It's just odd that I didn't have this problem with any of the previous versions of the shoe. So, something that they changed in the 4.0 version is making the heels a little looser. I can fix it by tying the shoelaces in a different pattern that tightens just the heel (something I learned on the Runners World website), but the shoelaces with this shoe are not long enough to do it easily. I took off one star for this, because it's a pain to try to keep the heel area tight enough so I don't feel as though the shoe is flopping around when I run. I love everything else about this shoe.
