P.S. I just read some other reviews and I have both the last version and this one, and I still use both while training for a marathon: I can't tell the difference between the two versions.

Excellent shoes for long distance running for those with flat arches. Can't ask for anything better.

Hated this shoe. Too heavy. Felt like running with bricks on. Otherwise fine. Back to Asics.

The best one so far, very comfortable I feel like I am walking on clouds. The only problem I have now is finding my shoe size again. I hope they'll never discontinue it.

I work in an extremely active environment (busy clinical lab in a busy hospital) and most shoes just don't do the job (either they fall apart altogether, literally, in a very short time, or they are extremely uncomfortable by day's end, and this includes so-called comfort shoes). The Brooks Ariel 9 has been a godsend. It's the only shoe that can carry me comfortably through the day (no pressure points or pain at quitting time) and they last a whopping 6 months which is a huge improvement over other shoes I've worn there (one exception is Berkenstock's which lasts over a year). Foot support is awesome. The cushioned comfort is exceptional. I have an injured back (lower spine) and arthritis, and these shoes have been wonderful at preventing pain and discomfort through my busy days. Not to mention the width on the D models is perfect for my wider foot. I sure hope Brooks come up with a worthy successor, since they are discontinuing this model. Ariel 9 is simply the best!

I have bad running mechanics. The previous version of this shoe helped solve my problems. This version is terrible. I now have ankle trouble and knee problems. Please bring back the last version. What did you do to this shoe? I had better luck with buying sneakers off the rack in the department store. Very dissapointing!

The BEST running shoe I have ever put my foot in too. I have been running for 17 years and try other shoes and the Ariel 9 is by far the best shoe for me. I've been wearing the Ariel 9 for about five years now. Last year I bought a different shoe and was not happy at all with it. I love the new colors. I've travel many roads with the Brooks Ariel 9 shoe then with any one else.Love the shoe...

i give the brooks ariel 9 and A+. They might be a little on the heavy side, but they have so much support and so comfortable. I have been in the Adrenaline, Addiction, and the Trance. The ariels are by far the best. I recommend them to anyone.

I never tried the older version of theses, so I can't say whether this version is better or worse. But, I personally think these shoes are great for me, a severe overpronator. In comparison to other motion control shoes I've tried (and I've tried A LOT) they feel very cushioned to run on, while still providing maximum control.

I have been wearing Brooks shoes for many years. I bought 2 pair of these --- big mistake. The support broke down in less than 2 months. I am truly disappointed and will spend my money on my other favorite brand in the future.

I'm so disappointed in the Ariel versions of the last few years. They are not as supportive and wear out much faster than the older versions. It's off to find a new shoe for me....

Very disappointing. This is my fourth or fifth pair of Brooks Ariels. I've always loved these shoes and never had a problem. The first time I ran in this 2007 model, I got a huge blister on the bottom of my foot -- the inside arch -- after just a few miles. I've never had a blister or any discomfort with Ariels before. Overall, the shoe feels flimsier and much less supportive especially on top. When I look at the inside of the shoe, the finishing of the stitching looks rougher than on my last pair, and the footpad seems less cushioned than before, though they say the new shoe has more cushioning. I also think it fits a little smaller in length. I'm very disappointed and wish I could find the 2004, 2005, or 2006 Ariel instead.

I have been wearing the Brooks Ariel for running for 8 years and have been entirely injury free. This version is not as nearly as good, and caused me to feel sore in knees after one long run. It did not control motion even as well as my shoes I have well broken in with over 400 miles. In comparison to older versions, it is narrower and has less roll bar material. Shame on Brooks for messing with a great product!

I LOVED my Addictions but thought these might be better...no way!! I hate them they are tight across the foot and heavy. I would rahter run barefoot.

I used to wear Brooks Beast years ago and loved them. I have flat feet and wear orthotics. When I tried these on (and I am a true size 8), they were too small. Tried the 8 1/2 and they were too big. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. Also they do not seem to as supportive as they older version. Will stick to my New Balance 1122 and 1010.

I ran a couple of shorter runs with these shoes on the advise of my podiatrist and no problems. However, when I ran a longer 13 mile run, I started getting an instep blister around 6 miles and had to try and deal with it the rest of the run. It's hard to say if it was the shoe or just my foot but I'm going back to the Adrenalines.

I believe this shoe is a cheaper version of the Ariel 4. It's very cheap feeling, not nearly as supportive and will probably wear out quickly. It also runs a bit smaller than the previous Ariel. I wish these companies would stop changing a good design.

Terrific shoe! Awesome for wide/flat feet. Its a little clunky looking but for the support and cushioning it can't be beat. I run in these 6 days a week, and am on my 4th month in these shoes, longer than any others have lasted.

Horrific! I felt like my feet were making direct contact with the road. Afterward my run, my hip, knees and shins hurt. I've been running in older versions of this shoe for years and loved them. I don't know what the deal with this model is.

If there were a 6 star this shoe would receive that rating. Great, comfortable shoe, will choose Brooks in the future. Support all the way around and comfort Wow! Love it!

Absolutely terrific shoe. It is a big improvement over the last version of the Ariel. It feels lighter and more cushioned. Not clunky. I am more of a mild pronator, but like the great stability of this shoe. It runs a tiny bit small.

LOVE these shoes. Do not feel like motion control shoes at all. Ran in these for a mile and was so surprised. Superb cushioning and controlled my pronation. Brooks did a really good job.
